(CNN) - Given California's colorful political history, perhaps it's no surprise the just-kicked off gubernatorial race has taken a peculiar turn, with one candidate accusing the other of using Nazi-like tactics.
During an apparent off-the-cuff interview with a KCBS reporter published Wednesday, state Attorney Gen. Jerry Brown, the Democratic candidate, alleged opponent Meg Whitman of disseminating propaganda about him in the same way the Nazis did.
"It's like Goebbels...Goebbels invented this kind of propaganda," said Brown in reference to Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi Minister of Propaganda. "He took control of the whole world. She wants to be president. That's her ambition, the first woman president. That's what this is all about."
The comments were made while Brown was jogging and his campaign dismissed the remarks as mere "jogging talk."
"You know, by the time she's done with me, two months from now, I'll be a child-molesting..." Brown also said in the same interview. "She'll have people believing whatever she wants about me."
Jillian Hasner, Whitman's campaign manager, said in a statement that Brown's comments are "deeply offensive."
"Jerry Brown's statements comparing our campaign to a propagator of the Holocaust [are] deeply offensive and entirely unacceptable," she said.

I'd say that's a valid comment. Rebub scum == Nazi. Simple.
i think the hitler nazi party would be very proud of the republican party of the last 30yr,s
Any chance of installing some frequency jamming devices along the Nevada border? This campaign is going to be full of this nonsense and frankly I'd rather not expose my children (or myself) to it. Oh wait, the media is nothing but a bunch of useless headline hounds who would rather focus on this sort of nonsense rather than actual substance (perhaps because reporters are not smart enough to understand the substantive stuff).
I think I'm going to go live in an igloo in Antarctica until after election day.
I can't help but wonder how anyone in their right mind would WANT to try to govern California.
I think Democrats shuld learn and know more about the Nazis before they continue throwing aroundthe term NAZI, as Pelosi did during the HCR debate, and other Dems did so after the AZ immigration law.
Jerry Brown is a loon who fits perfect in California. To say the state is in decline would be an understatement and if they elect him again it will just happen sooner.
this business of calling people NAZIS has to stop..on BOTH sides..it really is an insult to people who suffered under the real NAZIS....and it cheapens the horrors they committed.....the worst republican, or the worst democrat. and the worst libertarian, or the worst tea part member is nothing like a NAZI....these fools shold go out and learn about NAZI Germany, and then think about whether they really want to call another American citizen a NAZI
I well remember Jerry Brown and his father as Govenors of California. Looking back at our statis at those times, I don't remember being as fearful for our state as I am now. The current administration has us practically bankruped and now we have a candidate that it seems has no regard for wasting money. That scares me.How can anyone spend 81million dollars for a political office and really be concerned for all of the people in this state that have been out of work long enough to lose what they worked so hard for?. I AM scared.
Not even Californians are dumb enough to elect this brain dead loser.
ok captain moon beam ,,, here we go again,,,,
How low will Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown go? He must be pretty disparate to be slinging the mud this early. Maybe he already knows he doesn't stand a chance.
It's about time. We haven't had a Nazi analogy since at least - uh, well, whenever Glenn Beck last opened his mouth to talk about anything.
The Brown's represent good times in California....When Jerry's dad Edmund G. was governor, 12% of the budget was spent on highways and 2% on prisons....now after numerous Republican governors, we spend the same 14%....only now it is 12% on prisons and 2% on highways..(special thanks to the 3 strikes law).....If you want to return to budgets that were sane, you need to elect the people who were responsible for those budgets. You can balance the budget, solve our medicaid mess, and bring California back to the top 10 (state) in education by enacting 2 things 1)pass a law that you will not spend more on each prisoner than on each student (We now spend 4-5 times more per prisoner than per student.) 2) We immediately enact a $10 per pack tax on cigarettes. This should reduce smoking by about 40-50%, balance our budget and reduce our 20 year medicaid costs by more than 60%. While people quit, tax revenues go down at about the same rate as health care costs. Tobacco, by itself, is now directly or indirectly responsible for 40-50% of all required long term health care costs. If we have the guts to do these two things, our state will solve it's 3 largest problems in the near future. If we don't, ......good luck!
She could be a propagandist... lady .... She has no solutions for California.. She .. Whitman... will offer nothing.. and the T – Party will not support her ....The T-party wants no government ....or programs..
When Bush was in office, he passed laws reminiscent of 1930's Germany. The GOP allowed it, the GOP supported them and they definitely went toward the Nazi-ish slippery slope. Does anyone really expect them to stop now?
'moonbeam' Jerry has always been delusional, but now he is paranoid.
Whitman's a twice over billionaire, so what else is left for her to do but to buy her way to control the World.
I agree , it is disgusting for politicians to use anything related to Nazism and Hitler to besmear their opponents, it has been happening too often lately.
I suggest for Brown to read up on history and find out the facts , it was a tragic and horrific time for many , many people.
These flippant remarks show you how shallow this man is.
This guy has been a fixture in California governments for eons. California is gong to hell in a hand basket just like the rest of the left leaning states or union states. Northrup Grumman is leaving California to operate in conservative Virginia where democrats know they bettter bring jobs or lose to a republican. California voters should research Virginia and then decide who gets their votes.
The Weatherman
I like Brown, but it almost looks like he is doing the Nazi goosestep in this photo.
Meg Whitman as the first woman president?
Yep! When pigs fly . . .
Democrats can get away with calling people Nazis. It just goes to show how empty-headed the left is. Good luck with electing Jerry Brown California. When you go broke, the rest of the country will be laughing at you (like most of it already is) because you brought it on yourselves.
Google Godwin's Law. Comparisons to Nazis destroys any hope for useful debate. I'm a Dem but this is a joke.
If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with looney talk about Nazis.
Isn't this the same guy who said something to the tune of, 'Maybe we can show Americans that politicians can campaign above the name-calling and live up to higher standard.'
I guess not. What a shame.
