Washington (CNN) - She ran as an outsider, but on Tuesday, Nevada Republican Senate nominee Sharron Angle will meet with some top GOP insiders in Washington.
Angle will sit down with Republican senators on Capitol Hill at the Republican policy lunch, as the guest of Sen. John Ensign, which appears to be creating some controversy.
Angle will also meet with National Republican Senatorial Campaign Chairman John Cornyn and with other senior NRSC officials.
The former state lawmaker, once considered a long shot for the Nevada Republican Senate nomination, easily defeated 12 other candidates in last Tuesday's primary, thanks in part to help from the Tea Party Express (a national Tea Party organization) and the Club for Growth, an anti-tax group. The NRSC didn't take sides in the primary. Angle now faces off in the general election against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who is battling for a fifth term in office.
"Senator Ensign has stated that he will assist the winner of Nevada's Republican Senate primary as little or as much as the nominee wished. Senator Ensign will be attending the Republican Policy lunch with Sharron Angle tomorrow as a way of introducing her to his colleagues," Ensign Press Secretary Jennifer Cooper said Monday night.
But apparently not all Senate Republicans are thrilled with Ensign's move to bring Angle's at the weekly gathering.
A senior GOP Senate source said Ensign didn't officially inform those who run the lunch, which Ensign used to do before he was forced to resign from his leadership post.
"This is Ensign going rogue in an attempt to rehabilitate his soiled reputation by latching onto someone popular with Nevada voters," said the source.
The Senate Ethics Committee is investigating Ensign, who has been dogged by allegations of improper conduct stemming from an affair with the wife of a former aide. An Ethics Committee spokesman has declined to comment on precisely what its members are looking into.
Angle's meeting with NRSC officials appears less controversial.
"Sharron Angle ran a terrific grassroots primary campaign and we are committed to doing whatever we can to help her win," says NRSC communications director Brian Walsh. "Nevada voters deserve accountability in Washington and we're confident they will elect Sharron Angle in November."
Appearing Monday on Fox News, Angle said Reid "has pretty much waterboarded our economy for the last year and a half."
Angle also defended her strong connection to the Tea Party movement, saying that "we're the mainstream in America."
The GOP is pathetic. They have NO ideas, just slogans and attacks.
Angle is going to whoop Reids butt in the election, This race is about how terrible Reid has treated Nevada and the rest of this great nation for all the many years he has been in the senate.
GOOD-BYE HARRY REID!!
Sharon Angle is from the wingnut wing of the Party of No. Of course she is meeting with D.C. bigwigs. As we all know, the teabaggers are the extreme right wing of the Repugnant Party. What's the big controversy? People don't expect her to be any different than any other Repugnant, I hope. She will toe the line, just like the rest. Calling herself a teabagger is just her schtick to get herself elected.
She better not fall in with same old do nothing organization. That's not what she won the election on. We need to clean house in the Congress.
Every CNN political ticker is anti GOP
Big surprise there from one of the most bias news sources
Not all GOPers want to have lunch with Tea Party mainstream candidate Angle? Imagine that.
Something she's said, maybe?
Yes, of course she is an outsider. The Republicans are outsiders after they lost power in 2008 and they are trying to get back in. Of course, we remember why they lost power in the first place.
She is a Republican meeting with other Republicans in order to meet and greet plus get financial help from her party. This is raising eyebrows how? With the liberal media dead head reid can meet with demorats but a Republican cannot. With liberals I guess the saying you cannot fix stupid is for real.
CNN starts it's democrap add campaign even before the N.Y. Times sends their loons out .
