“He hasn’t clearly made any decision yet,” Bachmann said of her state’s Republican governor in an interview on CNN’s John King, USA. “And I haven’t backed any candidate yet or said that I’m going to be necessarily on their team. It’s very early in the process.”
“If you could pick, who would it be?” CNN Chief National Correspondent John King asked the Minnesota lawmaker.
“Well, we’ll find out,” Bachmann coyly replied, “I think after 2010, it will become much clearer.”
But the conservative Republican did have one 2012 prediction which she was willing to share.
“But I do know as I've been speaking to people, especially in my district in Minnesota, they see President Obama as a one-term president. So I think there is a very strong likelihood that we'll see a change after this election.”
Bachmann also expressed concern about how Obama is handling the economic damage caused by the Gulf oil spill.
The lawmaker made it clear to King that “I’m not here to shill for BP. That’s not the goal.
“BP clearly is at fault here. They need to pay every last dime of damage, and that’s what needs to be done.”
But on the same day that Obama announced BP’s agreement to fund a $20 billion escrow account to be disbursed by a well-known attorney, Bachmann added she was concerned the oil giant might be getting caught up in the politics of Washington.
“We don't want these payouts to become political. And we don't want - we don't think it's a good idea for the federal government to see private industry as essentially a piggy bank for the federal government.”
She added, “And while it's important that all the claims get paid, let's just make sure that this isn't a permanent ATM card.”
The Minnesota Republican explained her concern by pointing to the Obama administration’s multiple, unprecedented efforts to intervene in the private sector since late 2008 when the economy was teetering on the brink of another Great Depression.
“Today it seems like the automatic effort from the government is: let's have the federal government take over private industry,” Bachmann told King.
“We don't want that to be the automatic response of government, because we're a free-market economy. And unfortunately, the Obama administration hasn't been making any efforts to unwind the government out of these private industries. We're still deep into GM, deep into Chrysler, et cetera. And I just think we don't want to have the federal government take over effectively the oil industry either.”
Government intervention is the only way to make sure things like the Oil Spill don't occur again. Big business, driven by greed, will always cut corners in safety for their own profit. The government needs to be there to make sure big business decisions don't hurt the United States public.
Ru serious? Is this lady really serious? Goverment is a big part in the private sector. From our military to our health care. Obama just made it easier for us normalppl to understand what's going on.
Who cares who this nut job endorses?!?!? Bachman is the worst I have ever seen or heard.
I can't believe any sane person, regardless polical affiliation would support one word this complete idiot says.
Bachmann is a intellectually stunted. Doesn't this woman know that dire circumstances require dire measures? And this, just in case there are any other tea "blank brains" out there, is the worst environmental disaster in the history of our country.
Congresswoman dummy, did anyone tell you that? Quite Shilling for BP, they have billions to take care of themselves.
Minnesotaons, if you guys vote this waste of space back in next year, I will realize the educational system in your state is sadly inadequate and falling its citizens.
Watch and see...Republicans will do what they always do...save their rich buddies, push the cost off on the poor. Read their statements, people are to hard on BP and BP shouldn't be liable for everything..more of the same. America's slowly falling to pieces, using Socialism for the rich and continuing to crush the poor is no solution...Vote out ALL incumbents, AND Republicans.
Governemnt takeovers of BP, governemnt not doing enough, is there ANYTHING that will shut up the media hound Bachmann?
Good for you I wised the rest of the people would listen to you.
We are acting like a bunch of thugs.
Wait a minute...is she defending BP?!? She must be out of her mind!
The people in her district think Obama will be a one term President? Now that's a scientific poll.
Why would anybody outside Podunk, Minnesota care what this wingut has to say?
Bachmann is typical of GOP politicians who want to let big business off the hook no matter what chaos they cause the world! I think she should be voted out of Congress and as for Pawlenty, he doesn't have a prayer and she knows it!
Boner and Can'tor rip Obama for not taking charge and taking over BP; Michelle Bachman defends BP and criticizes Obama for "fleecing" BP.
These people are nothing but political hacks and Machman is an idiot!
Bachmann and Pawlenty are both duds, so who should care about either one of them????
She wants to run for President with her buddy Sarah Palin. If she thinks Obama is a one term President at least he will have had four years. The only time she will see the Oval office is if she is invited in.
So don't regulate the oil companies for safety? She is crazy. How many more oil spills are we going to have? Atm? Would she rather
we pay for it? She's certifiable! I thought the Republicans say we are spending out of control. Crazy.
What a transparent idiot!
Who cares who this crazy old woman backs for any office? She needs to be concerned about who is going to back her next time around. She never stays in her state. She is always busy protesting the Democrats and bashing everyone she can. She certainly isn't working for the people in Minnesota. I hope the voters vote her out. I'm tired of listening to her far out views!!
The governor sounds like someone right out of the Herbery Hoover playbook and we all know how successful he wasat dealing with the depression.
I think Bachmann by saying "Don't treat BP like an ATM" is really saying "Don't treat the benefactors of my policies as an ATM"
If anyone in MN has a brain Bachman won't be in office come 2012, but then with all the cold and how it affects the brain people in MN are pretty dense when it comes to realizing an idiot and if there ever was a true idiot in MN then Bachman definitely is in front running for that award. This woman won't choose a candidate for 2012 because secretly in her demented world she intends to run with Palin, that is my prediction and you better believe with 2 idiots like that on the ticket it will be a shoo in for Obama in 2012, Nuff said.
A Bachmann endorsement. LOL. Pawlenty should just say no... to that bridge to outer space. I will laugh my [blank] off if her district reelects that lunitic.
Because Michele Bachmann is not ready to back Pawlenty is SIMPLY GOOD FOR PAWLENTY. Bachmann is truly someone to be ashamed of.
Ms. Bachmann, considering that the people of your district continue to reelect you, it is no surprise they believe Obama will be a one-term president. You and other conservatives always say that smalltown America is "the Real World", but The Real World is actually in cities and suburbs where most Americans live. If you ever cared to venture to Minneapolis, I think you'll find that your constituents are far off to the right of most Americans.
Will this political Jezebel ever say something sensible without fear mongering! well I have news for you! this is the last term for you in the senate. Why are we deep in GM, deep into Chrysler! can you tell us why? because bush and your republicans screwed up!!! period. So please stop these holy than thou attitude and face the reality. The employment rate could have been far much worse.
Minnesota is this the best you can do. Quite frankly this woman is a bit strange. She is the epitome of what is wronge with Washington today. Do yourself, your state, your country a favor and vote this weirdo out of office.
Michele Bachmann is one of the weirdest and most simple-minded members of Congress is US history. I cannot imagine that anybody would sit on the edge of their seat waiting for her endorsement. This is the same woman who said that Congress should be investigated for "unAmerican activities", bringing a whole new meaning to the term McCarthyism. She is so self-absorbed and deluded that she puts her personal political fame ahead of what is best for the country. It is sickening that some people are actually ignorant enough to believe anything she says and think she is capable of representing their needs.
