Congressman: 'I am ashamed' of 'shakedown' of BP

Washington (CNN) - Republican Rep. Joe Barton had some harsh words for the White House at a key hearing Thursday on the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster: "I am ashamed of what happened at the White House yesterday. I think it is a tragedy of the first proportion that a private corporation would be subjected to what I would characterize as a shakedown - in this case a $20 billion dollar shakedown." Barton was referring to BP's establishment - at the behest of the administration - of an escrow account to pay for claims.

Was Joe Barton sitting on the BP CEO's lap like a little ventriloquist dummy when this was said?

    Shaking down BP?

Hey Barton, do you know how oong BP has been shaking us down at the pump? Years, moron.

Oh, yeah, I forgot. BP puts money in your pocket.

This guy is obviously another Texas Bushgang corporate oilpig who lives in such a dense cloud of money-induced self-delusion that he thinks ALL OF US ARE STUPID, just like the rest of his Enron school peers. Somebody should throw him in a deep vat of oil with 8 foot walls.

BP had the wherewithal to apologize. The federal government and their total lack of oversight was their partner in this oil spill but don't expect Obama to admit any government responsibility. That's really not his strong suit.

Sounds like he's doing the bidding of his lobbyists – he apologized for them being held accountable for the worst ecological disaster in the history of the US. Maybe he needs to go take a good look at the gulf.
