Angle has run-in with reporter

(CNN) – Republican Sharron Angle has largely avoided interviews with local and national media outlets since capturing her party's Senate nomination two weeks ago, but the newly-minted candidate had a contentious run-in Thursday with a Las Vegas television reporter.

KLAS reporter Nathan Baca asked Angle about a statement on her website that calls for "transitioning out" Social Security and Medicare programs.

"Why do you want to eliminate [Social Security] for younger folks," he asked.

Angle, who had just returned from a visit to Washington, fired back at him.

"You believe the Harry Reid lie," said Angle, who was campaigning at a Las Vegas restaurant. Angle said she does not believe in eliminating Social Security entirely, but instead transferring the money to private accounts that the government "can't raid."

"You're putting words into my mouth from Harry Reid," a frustrated Angle responded when Baca noted that the stock market downturn would have been devastating to seniors if their savings had been privatized.

"I want you to be very clear on this," she said. "I'm here to save Social Security. Harry Reid is here to bankrupt Social Security."

The former state lawmaker, once considered a long shot for the GOP nomination, easily defeated 12 other candidates in the June 8 primary, thanks in part to help from the Tea Party Express, a national Tea Party organization, and the fiscally conservative organization Club for Growth.

She now faces Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, believed to be among the must vulnerable Senate Democrats, in November.

Reid recently launched a campaign commercial, in which the announcer says, "Shockingly, Sharron Angle wants to wipe out Social Security." Angle's campaign called that ad a "deception, designed to divert attention from Harry Reid's own failures."

When the KLAS reporter asked about her stated opposition to the Environmental Protection Agency, Angle then replied, "Where are you getting these questions? The issues are not about the EPA. The issues are homes here in Nevada. He is trying to make this a campaign about me. But, where's Harry? Go ask him. Please go ask Harry about the EPA, and why they have failed."

Angle has criticized the EPA for proposing domestic energy regulations that she has said will be "harmful to most sectors of the domestic energy industry and eventually substantially raise the utility bill of every American."

Baca, who then repeatedly tried to ask Angle an additional question as she exited the restaurant, later said the Angle campaign aide called him "an idiot and another term that can't be repeated."

Campaign spokesman Jerry Stacy told CNN the comments did not come from an Angle aide.

"I reviewed the video," he said. "I do not recognize the person in the video that the reporter was talking to. It was not an employee of the campaign."

A Mason-Dixon poll conducted a week before Angle won the primary showed her and Reid statistically tied.

Angle is calling for "second amendment" solutions to "take out" Harry Reid. "Second Amendment" meaning the use of firearms to solve a political problem. She is calling for the assasination/murder of Harry Reid. She has called on "second amendment" solutions on numerous occasions. The second amendment is the right to bear arms. What is a "second amendment" solution? Assasination/murder?
How can anyone support this fringe element?

Typical Republican response: Blame someone else first to avoid answering a direct question. No wonder they're the party of liars, cheats, crooks and cronies.

Someone should tell this whacko that the utility bills she says will be raised already have because of our dependence on oil. If she really believed in the free enterprise system she would be talking about alternative fuel choices. The more competition the oil companies have the less they would charge otherwise they would go belly up. Her paranoid conception that regulation is govt interference with free enterprise is a lie. What is being regulated is safety. FAA is regulated, food & drugs are regulated, automotive industry, safety in the work place. it costs big business $ to insill rules of safety, rules of regulation and they dont want to pay. Even the banks and oil companies are or were until Dubya/cheney deregulated them and we know what happened when they did that. This bozo hasnt even been elecyed yet and already you can see she has been bought out by the same people that funded Dubya/Cheney. Vote these clowns in and they will finish what Dubya started. Watch

What kind of loonys would pick this wierdo as a senste candidate. The Oathkeepers militia, and "if the vote doesn't fix the Reid problem, then people will statrt looking for a second amendment solution". This is thteatening to murder her opponent if she loses the election. She calls for armed revolt against the legally elected government if she don't like something it does. This is treason. She should be arrested.

Congress has been missing an important element since Georgia replaced Cynthia McKinney with good ol Hank Johnson: a total NUT-JOB. Nevada could fill this gap with Sharron Angle. I'm not sure America could suffer through her term, but it would be lots of laughs. All of the idiocy of the Repugs wrapped up in one person!

What is it with these Right-wingers who think they don't have to answer to the public, unless it's filtered through Fox news? Palin doesn't speak through unbiased news networks, Rand Paul decided he won't, and Angle has been playing duck and cover, even when the questions are direct quotes from her website? These people are openly proving they have no accountability to the American public, and are only wanting to usurp power for their own twisted ambitions. You too Whitman and Fiorina. Just say "no" to the party of "no" in 2010, 2012, and forever after. Show the Right-wing you're capable of hating them, just as much as they hate you.

While I may not be a big fan of Harry Reid, Sharron Angle is just plain scary...

I love Nevada. I truly hope the folks of this great state don't elect this woman to represent them. More division is the last thing this country needs right now...

This woman wants to privatize Social Security. NEWS FLASH: THIS WILL NOT SAVE SOCIAL SECURITY. We would have ALL taken a bigger HIT during this recession if our Social Security had been privatized. She is against the EPA (and as far as I know no documentation exists to prove her objections) and now has been making comments concerning the Second Ammendment and the need to "take Harry Ried out" – ANOTHER WHACK JOB TEA PARTY GOP'R.
I am amazed, on a daily basis, the number of loony tunes out there! FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO WATCH OTHER THAN FOX NEWS!

When lies come out of a republicant mouth (all of the time) and some reporter call them out on it they are ALWAYS misquoted. She has said it very clearly that she wants to do away with SS.

If you can't take the heat – stay out the kitcher – and certainly avoid visiting restaurants where the press might show up. The longer she runs from the press and the questions of constituants the more she'll fall in the polls. Seems like the Tea Party Express has another "ideas" person on their hands.

She still didn't answer the question. Her website says "transitioning out" social security, not "change the structure of social security a little."

And furthermore, did Nevada somehow miss out on the huge turnaround from awesome job-loss when W left office to steady job gains recently? Is that Harry Reid's fault? Because the US economy made an intense turnaround.

Do we need Repug control so we can try to break the Bush record of over 750,000 jobs lost in one month while oil companies set record profits?

It's politics and journalism as usual. A left leaning journalist asks a questioned designed to trap a canddate. This tme the candidates fires back. Angle is right about Reid trying..no has helped Obama bankrupt the country. As far asSocial Security...lots of work to be done there. As far as privatzing SS...according to my annual statement my employers and I have paid $250K into the system.. If that money were privatized in savings accounst or very very safe investments, I could get a decent return AND have the money to pass on to my heirs. Who knows what is best. I just know it isn't Obama or Reid
