(CNN) - Sen. Richard Lugar tells CNN's Candy Crowley that he expects "many" troops will remain in Afghanistan beyond July 1, 2011, despite comments from Vice President Joe Biden to the contrary.
"Essentially, the vice president is going to follow the lead of the president and that may mean we have a lot of troops still there after July 1," said Lugar.
The full interview will air on CNN's State of the Union Sunday at 9 a.m. ET.
And you'll be out of office in 2012 Luger.
What happened to Obama's campaign promise to bring our troops home because Big Bad Bush sent them there. Not a single one has come home under his administration. Anybody else 2012!
If you think we're going to ever leave Iraq or Afghanistan, you're kinda naive. We need big bases in the region to safeguard the interests of global corporations. After all, we wouldn't want those brown people to get any crazy ideas like keeping the profits from their natural resources for themselves, would we? Just ask Mohammad Mosaddegh. Oh, wait, you can't because he's dead. Have a nice day!
When are these guys going to realize that we are wasting our precious resources in Afghanistan?
At least they kept their promise about closing Gitmo..........oh wait, I guess not.
"What happened to Obama's campaign promise to bring our troops home because Big Bad Bush sent them there."
Oh, you mean the promise he never made because he was actually telling everyone that Afghanistan was where we should be and where the war should've been faught the entire time Bushtard was wasting time and resources in Iraq avenging his dear old pappy? Yeah. Stop lying.
That "pullout" date is far from set in stone.
Anyone who truly feels we can be out of Afghanistan by next July is not only drinking the kool aid but totally out of touch with reality. I hate war as well and demonstrated against Viet Nam and Iraq, but reality is if we leave Afghanistan as it currently is it will come back to bite us big time and next time there will be far more dead than 3500, think in terms of 10s of thouisands and long lasting harm that will go on much longer than the dismal World Trade Center.
"What part of ILLEGAL do liberals not understand?"
What part of Constitutional pre-emption do conservatives not understand?
"The fact that the AZ law is a mirror of the fed law?"
While that's not technical true, here's a hint: if you want to avoid losing this argument, stop admitting that there is already a federal law on the books that is right on point, because that actually helps make the pre-emption argument.
"Arizona has taken a step to help protect our country against illegal entry to our country."
Actually, AZ took a step to weaken the Constitution and that is of paramount concern. Just because you like what AZ decided to do does not mean AZ has the power or authority to do it. And no, the Constitution does not bend to convenience or popular demand.
"What happened to the 1200 National Guard troops he promised he was going to sent to help patrol the USA/Mexico border????"
Did he promise to conjure them up out of thin air instantly? No. And why is that? Because it takes time to mobilize, notify and organize thousands of troops for deployment. Grow up.
"Time for another civil war? I Hope not but........"
Oh yes. Please do. I'll give you one guess which side of the political spectrum actually has more people who have been practicing shooting at other people for longer. Your NRA-loving mullethead minions have helped create gun laws that have armed your worst nightmare...and yes, those inner-city dope smoking Oprah watchers actually have good aim...AND you've got them pretty p-ssed at this point, cowboy.
BUT BUT BUT.....'Our Dear Leader' told us he would have our troops home in a matter of months while he was campaigning.
