Nevada takes dubious jobless title from Michigan

New York (CNNMoney.com) - Nevada's jobless rate hit a record high last month and and is now the highest in the nation, the first time in four years that Michigan doesn't hold that distinction, according to a government report released Friday.

The Silver State's unemployment rate climbed to 14% in May, the highest in the state since 1976 when the Labor Department began collecting the data. It was up from 13.7% in April.

Meanwhile, joblessness slipped to 13.6% from 14% the previous month in Michigan, which has been ravaged by the struggles of the auto industry. The state has been the leader in unemployment rate since April 2006. During the last year, Nevada has lost a net total of more than 29,000 jobs, and posts the highest percentage increase in unemployment at 2.5%.

How fitting it is that the "leader" of the DemocRATS in the Senate has led his own state into the unemployment abyss. How fitting it will ALSO be that this despicable man joins them in the unemployment line come November!

Take the alcohol and unions out of the casinos in Reno and Vegas and watch those places turn into a deserted old town.

But don't close down the Mustang Ranch – the republicans and tea-baggers still need their wild women.

Can't wait until some reporter asks Angle what the SPECIFICS of her solution to unemployment in Nevada is and she calls him/her an "idiot"!

A good portion of our high jobless rate can be traced to our GOP governor who turned down most of the federal stimulus money which would have solved many of our problems. I guess even the republicans in NV agree with that because he lost in his primary for a second term. Still, the GOP blame the democrats for our situation here. Then you also hear the GOP blame Senator Reid for our problems when he has no control over state policies, that's clearly the doing of the republican governor. The GOP propaganda machine continues to tell outright lies to the public, but the good news is that the public has caught on to the lies from the GOP and the Tea Baggers.

Vote NO in NOvember to the party of NO.

Rhode Island might take the title but the big companies in the state keep firing people who are making higher salaries and hiring people off the unemployment rolls to replace them while they deny claims for those they fired for bogus reasons. I know quite a few people in RI that are facing these issues right now and the unemployment hearings to dispute company claims are booked out for months due to these practices. Seems that these companies fear that they won't get government benefits for hiring off unemployment rolls if they are equally adding to the unemployment pool and it looks good for the state if the jobless numbers go down despite this being inaccurate.

You can thank Reid for that. While he was doing nothing about jobs, fooling around with health care for an entire year.

Sen. Harry Reid, take a bow for creating the highest unemployment in the nation in your home state. You can kiss your Senatorial seat goodbye.

We in Minnesota hold our Governor and State Legislators responsible for high unemployment. Hence, Pawlenty's long absences.

Nevada . . . not so much. Good luck with the Tea Party candidates, Nevada.

Luckily, Minnesota now has a great selection of candidates running for office. Thus, many of us are becoming quite optimistic for Minnesota's future.

A word of caution. Be very careful of whom you vote for. Pawlenty proved a disaster to Minnesota, tanking our budget LONG before the recession officially started.

    Corporate tax cuts. Billions worth.

The numbers don't truely reflect how bad it is in the job market anyway. An alarming number of people have given up trying to find work and thus are not even counted in the unemployment rate.Obama keeps touting this recovery but i just don't see it where i live.I hope ,come November, Harry is waiting in unemploment line.

The republican will blame this on president Obama and the democrats rather than themselves, whose years of give-away policies to big business and the Wall Street crowd, whose greed led to the economic disaster; and the businesses that ship jobs off shore to near slave-labor countries for the sake of increasing profits while lowering quality. This administration and this congress was not, and is not the cause of the high unemployment rate in Nevada or anyplace else. President Obama is good, very good, but even he can't fix in 1 or 2 short years what was destroyed during the republican reign of incompetence.

Nevada...That's the state where Maj Leader Reid is facing a tough fight against the Tea Partier Angle. This is also the state with legalized prostitution and gambling? I suppose Angle is going to point out the jobless statistic, blame Harry, and fight to put prostitutes and gamblers back in business? You go, girl!

Obviously, Harry Reid, VP Biden and President Obama are not reading the real unemployment reports when they give their speeches. Maybe they all should try watching CNN Money to get the figures of unemployment. The more they claim creation of jobs the more unemployment goes up. I don't see them closing the gab between the real figures and their claimed figures.
