Limbaugh bashes GOP for Barton response

Rush Limbaugh defended Rep. Joe Barton Monday.

(CNN) – Conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh is taking aim at Republican leaders for rushing to demand Texas Rep. Joe Barton retract his controversial apology to BP CEO Tony Hayward during last week's congressional hearing.

On his radio show Monday, Limbaugh suggested the GOP leadership likely agrees with Barton's sentiments, but are driven by recent national polls which suggest the majority of Americans support President Barack Obama's push for BP to set aside $20 billion for future liability claims.

"It was a shakedown pure and simple," said Limbaugh, echoing the words for which Barton later apologized. "And somebody had the audacity to call it what it was and now everybody's running for the hills."

"All you have to do is look at the polling," Limbaugh continued. "We're talking about Republicans inside the beltway. All you have to do is look at the polling data and media coverage and find out what they are going to do."

Barton, the ranking Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, quickly faced fire from both the right and the left after apologizing to Hayward during the BP chairman's appearance before his committee Thursday. Hours later – amid threats he would lose his leadership post – Barton retracted the comments.

"Let's just slither away under the rock here," Limbaugh said, mocking the Republicans' approach to Barton. "We'll let Joe Barton get eaten by the Democrat lizards on this to protect ourselves. This is politics and this is the reason why true believers have such a problem with politics. It's just that simple and no more complicated than that."

Yea, that Republican party better listen to ol' Rush. He is such a great influence on their Party and their lunatic members. No class, no character, no integrity, a homophobe, a virulent racist, an elitist, a pathological liar.....yea Rush is the very definition and leader of the GOP. He represents all their "values" and hatred for the American People.

Thank goodness we have an intelligent President who is a great leader and a true good and decent man. Republicans attack him every day for every thing as they try to bring him down but all it does is make them look more petty and childish than they already are.

As soon as I saw the golf story, I knew Republicans would attack Obama for it. Bush spent most of his Presidency at his ranch in TX but nothing was ever said about that- but he was a white Republican so that made it OK.

Barton needs to be taken down to the Gulf for a town meeting with the LA residents and then dropped in one of the marshes full of thick stinking oil. We have GOT to get rid of Republicans in November. They are ruining our country and betraying the People.

So is Barton's comment GOP philosophy as claimed by Limbaugh or is it not GOP philosophy as claimed by Palin.

Looks like a war of words between the two of them.

I guess Herr Rush will lose a few blind tru believers in the Gulf states. It's just sour grapes that the President got the money up front. Had BP filed bankruptcy, no one would get paid. Would Rush hand out checks for the money people are losing daily? We get it Rush you have a problem with the black family @1600 Pennsylvania. Not only do you want him to fail, but the little guy as well. Rush, Barton and all the other Republican non-thinkers should just zip it until they have something intelligent to contribute to the discourse.

Limbaugh, you need to get into rehab.

Drug addiction is a very serious thing, and you're making a fool of yourself everytime you open your mouth.

    Kinda like a drunk alcoholic.

    Rush,

Why dont you take your drug addled body down to the gulf coast and see the devistation yourself. You might not think this was a shakedwon after seeing what people and small business are dealing with.

Well, the GOP will have to re-group again now that Rush is on them. Maybe they can apologize and start from scratch. Put Limbajugh on the next GOP presidential ticket because he seems to rule. Is he back from his honeymoon already. No viagra handy??

Thanks for clearing that up, Rush. I don't doubt Rush's belief that Republican leaders agreed with Barton privately, that demanding an oil company to pay for the damages from an oil spill that it caused is a "shakedown." What should the voters do about it? November is coming up.

  17. NYT:"during this election cycle big oil has paid 12.8 million in contributions, 71% to Republicans"!

Ah, you knew the fat tub of lard, retard would weigh in..

The tea baggers have just ripped the facade of caring about the little guy, to expose the true "face" of the republikkklan party to include screw the average guy, help big business and the hidden racism and bigotry that are the true party philosophies, most of us have seen that face for decades, but now even the low information voters can check it out.

The travesty of the neo-con's "conservative compassion" has been exposed as a lie by all you radical republikkkan fascists, anarchists and Oxycon drug addicts that want "America to fail".

In fact, why are tea bagger and this lush down on the coast helping with the clean-up? Plan a KKK rally and with some of the RVing tea baggers and then ya'll could toss your white sheets in the Gulf and build a "boom for bigotry". The size of THAT boom should save the whole Gulf Coast.

So, keep ranting to deflect from the fact Balin' Palin is for Big Oil along with the smegma of mankind, Barton and his shakedown" apology to BP or Knotthead Jake that thinks the President is a "raghead" or the '99'ers" and their families which you republikkkans just tossed under the bus by preventing unemployment benefit extensions, all while you and the other neo-cons complain of high unemployment out of the other side of your hypocritical pie holes, the 21% cut in Medicare payments to doctors that you sanction, or the 24 billion cuts to state and local governments which your current Senate filibuster sanctions and will relate to not just teacher layoffs, but police and firefighters as well.

No, just focus on how that big, bad "socialist thug from Chicago" who just secured 20 billion dollars for the folks of the Gulf Coast and is 20 billion less the taxpayers of "my" country will have to pay out to clean up the private industry mess that has bought and paid for you and your republikkklan Taliban fascists.

The dick let Big Oil develop the regulations, so he is the one that allowed this catastrophe to occur.

To all voters, if you are even remotely considering returning/keeping a republican in office, just think Mr. Barton, aka Palin with a penis, would be head(so to speak) of the Energy committee, yes, the same Barton that apologized to BP and thinks the taxpayers should be on the hook for the clean-up.

  18. Limbaugh is a liberal

Watch all the republicans magically change their minds and start massively apologizing to Limbaugh. Because that's the only apology they ever really do, to their glorious, cowardly, unelected leader.

let's see, the gulf disaster was caused by BP and they shouldn't be held financially responsible for all the economic destruction they caused? ok, now i know why he's called rush: that's what he gets from smoking the good stuff.

lol, Rush disagrees with Palin! was Palin wrong when she called Rohm a liar?? IS this the way Republicans feel about this?

Rush sounds closer to the truth than Palin does... how strange is that?

Rush is totally right! What Barton said was that in his opinion, he doesn't want to live in a country where the acting President unconstitutionally shakes down private companies! He never once said BP was not totally complicit regarding the disaster but that Obama's 20-Billion dollar uncapped strong-arming should have been handled through legal and constitutional discourse.

The bigger picture lies in the reality of Bozo's socialistic agenda. Big Government takeover of capitalism and private industry ala; GM, Healthcare, The Insurance, Wall Streets, Banking, Housing Industry and next, the oil Industry. His so called BP Commission is now staffed with left-wing environmentalists denouncing the use of oil in the future. Question: how are Liberal activists supporting this lunacy going to gas up their Honda Civics? How do they plan to replace the hundreds of thousands jobs lost? Liberal idealism is based on the covert thirst for political power and will soon bankrupt this Nation all under Barry Obozo's ill-fated leadership! Despicable!

As on every single issue: I am still waiting for the republican alternative plan! What is it? Republicans want the government to step in and clean up the disaster BUT without spending anything AND without interfering with private business. What they are asking for is a contradiction.

Thank you, Rush, for showing all of America once again just how low, stupid, and slimy your republican minions are. when 'people' like AR and doug are rummaging around for something to eat in the post-global frying Earth and cursing the government for not protecting the environment, maybe they'll remember how you defended the companies who destroyed the planet. how stupid do people have to be to not realize that if the environment goes south, it takes us all with it??? how bad does it have to get before people wake up?
