Obama deserves a round of golf, White House says

'I don't think that there is a person in this country that doesn't think that their president ought to have a little time to clear his mind,' White House spokesman Bill Burton said Monday.
'I don't think that there is a person in this country that doesn't think that their president ought to have a little time to clear his mind,' White House spokesman Bill Burton said Monday.

(CNN) – The White House is beating back Republican charges that President Barack Obama is taking too many breaks during the ongoing oil disaster off the Gulf coast.

"I don't think that there is a person in this country that doesn't think that their president ought to have a little time to clear his mind," White House spokesman Bill Burton told reporters Monday.

The comments came a day after Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele issued a strongly worded statement condemning the president for playing a round of golf Sunday, attending a baseball game Friday, and recently hosting Paul McCartney at the White House.

"Until this problem is fixed, no more golf outings, no more baseball games, no more Beatle concerts, Mr. President," Steele said in the statement. "The stakes are too high for President Obama's lackadaisical approach to both his responsibilities and the challenges we face."

Burton instead suggested the president's BP response has been whole-hearted.

"After a week where the president was taking on the oil spill; got a historic agreement with BP to put aside $20 billion to pay claims; after a day on Friday when he strengthened lobbying and ethics rules in the White House; after going to Ohio to talk about the economy and see the progress that is being made in some of those stimulus projects that are happening around the country; all the different issues that the president is dealing with, I think that a little bit of time to himself on Father's Day weekend probably does us all good as American citizens that our president is taking that time," said Burton.

Barak Obama is one of the top, hardest working Presidents this country has ever known. He takes a rare time off to golf and the conspiracy theorists have come forward to spew their nonsense. Good grief!

I don't know why anyone is shocked exactly what has he done? He passed a health care that the majority of Legal Americans didn't want, he's going to sue our own state of Arizona for making a decision that again, the majority of legal Americans want. If this was Bush they would be holding him over the coals for this. The guy is a waste, he will go done in History as the fist half black president who didn't even care what the majority of Americans want in the US. Can't wait to vote him out!

George W took more vacation days than any other US President before him. Come to think of it, 9-11 happened right after he took the whole summer off.
I think the country will be ok while Obama takes in a round of golf or a ballgame.

Remember when W CLAIMED (LIED) he gave up golf in support of the troops at war in Iraq? But he didn't?

Reagan and W set the record for time off goofing off

Reagan set the record also for naps and few hours worked during the day

W has the all time record for vacation-Bush spent 1020 days – 35% of his presidency on VACATION

Even when he was in the White House, Dubya wasted entire hours of most days with bicycle rides and watching televised sports

and people have the audacity to complain about the O trying to unwind with all the crap heaved on this predsident's plate?

So Bush spends the more time on vacation that any other president ever and Obama who is actually getting something done doesn't deserve a golf game... what a joke.... Where were all the complainers when Bush was spending a 3rd of his time hanging out at his ranch..

Its always something, if the Oilspill was not going on, then it would be the President is not spending enough time on ending the war in Afghanistan, Micheal Steele aka The Notorious GOP you are a straight up buster! Oh no, the president spent Father's Day with his family. What a terrible role-model. Maybe if republicans would spend more time with their families instead of mistresses, they'd appreciate real family values.

I'd like to see what Steele has been doing with all his time. It takes a few seconds to send out a stupid comment like this, then what is he doing? I've seen nothing but complaining about this hard working admin. and apologizing to BP from most of the Republicans. Oh, yeah, it takes a lot of time and energy to oppose EVERYTHING. Great use of your time gentlemen.

Michael Steele should focus his time and energy on building his own and his party's credentials rather than being petty.

    Mr. Steele

Where were you on yesterday? Probably cooking up some false stories about the President. Is that all you have to talk about – President Obama playing golf? Maybe that's where you should have been but oh, I forgot , you don't know how. Please think of something else.

  16. Really?

What has the American political system become when all they do is point fingers and say "See he is not doing his job!” Being President is not a job you can be fully relaxed even if you try. The President has a mobile communication system always keeps him informed. So he is always working even when he is not. I have a family member that has worked at the White House for 20+ years and I grew up knowing how certain things worked.

To be fair this will happen to any sitting President Democrat or Republican. Unless we force the congress and the President to pick a shovel and help with the clean-up (that would be the day) then all is being done that can be done politically.

By the way can't the man have a Father's Day weekend like most Americans?

YOU PEOPLE who complain when the president takes a day off, either on the golf course or with his family, must be incredible people to be able to work 24- seven without a day off ever, wake up in the morning with a number of mind boggling problems that stay with you all day, every day and then take them all to bed with you at night. If this doesn't fit your life style, then I think you should just SHUT UP and rethink your tiresome complaints. As to Mr. Steele, we all know he"s just another Repub who sits around looking for something, anything, to throw at the president. Just what is Steeles job anyway,? I can't see that he does anything but "mouth off'.You guys have a problem. Just look in a mirror and you'll see what the problem is.

Michael Steel and that type of comment represent what is wrong in DC.
The usual politics of taking the opponent down whatever the means.
This is not about giving ideas,... God forbids that the republican party could share any of the brilliant ideas to stop the leak,.. oh ok.... well.. may be let give more breaks and less inspections to the oil companies.
    Mr. Stell leaves US alone!

The President is attacked for every word and move by the GOP.

"..goes to Gulf for political gain!"
    "..doesn't do enough!"
"..does too much, big govt interference!"
"... is too soft on BP!"
    "...is too hard, govt shakedown!"

STOP the retarded nonsense GOPers, you are pathetic. You supported an imbecile who vacationed half his Presidency in the midst of wars and Katrina.

Really? Really??? Our President can't have a weekend off? Any person would go mad without some time to themselves in the day to day life of "Average American". But consider the fact this man leads a country with so many different agendas, problems to conquer, progress to make, etc. I think he deserves a little time off. I'd love to see anyone of us, step up to the plate to do as much, and never take a few days from time to time, to clear our heads and alleviate the stress.

    Happy Father's day Mr. President.

Maybe Steele should worry about his own house's recreational activities before becoming too concerned with the White one?

If they really want to go down this path, just point out the two and half collective YEARS that Bush spent at his ranch while in office...

Mr. Steele seems to have forgotten how George Bush played golf, cut brush at Crawford or relaxed at Camp David almost anytime when there was work to do, such as deal with Hurricane Katrina, among other things.
