(CNN) - Sarah Palin is taking aim at White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, characterizing the top Obama aide as an irresponsible liar.
"Rahm, u lie," Palin wrote on Twitter Sunday after Emanuel said on ABC's This Week that Republican Rep. Joe Barton's controversial apology to BP last week exposed the political philosophy of the Republican Party.
"That's not a political gaffe, those are prepared remarks," said Emanuel. "That is a philosophy."
"RahmEmanuel= as shallow/narrowminded/political/irresponsible as they come,to falsely claim Barton's BP comment is "GOP philosophy," Palin also tweeted in reply to Emanuel's comments.
The White House has not responded to Palin's comments.
At a House committee hearing Thursday intended to grill BP CEO Tony Hayward, Barton instead drew the headlines for an opening statement that apologized to BP over the $20 billion account to pay damage claims that the company created at the request of President Barack Obama.
Barton's statement – which was quickly retracted under pressure from House GOP leadership – provided Democrats an opportunity to deflect growing public disenchantment with how the government was responding to the oil disaster.
Acknowledging the political gift handed to his party by Barton, Emanuel also said on ABC that Barton's comment and other pro-BP statements by Republicans including Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul would be a factor in the November congressional elections.
"In case you forgot what Republican governance is like, Joe Barton reminded you," Emanuel said, adding the GOP considers BP the "aggrieved party" instead of the oil giant responsible for the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history.
However, a statement later Sunday from the House Energy and Commerce Committee Republicans said Barton spoke off the cuff. The statement included what it said were his prepared remarks, which made no mention of an apology to BP or criticism of the fund the company created to pay for damages from the oil
spill.
Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski of oil-rich Alaska also challenged Emanuel's comments, telling the CNN program "State of the Union" that the White House chief of staff was wrong.
UPDATE: White House spokesman Bill Burton responded to Palin's tweet Monday in the daily briefing with reporters.
"As a leader of the Republican Party, people would be interested in knowing whether or not she thinks that, as Congressman Barton said, that $20 billion set aside in a fund to pay the claims of people who have been harmed by the BP oil spill was a shakedown. I don't think that the American people think that," Burton said.

Nor should they respond. Palin has essentially become a troll. To dignify her name-calling at someone expressing an opinion is ridiculous. She's degenerated into childlike behavior, throwing her tantrums more and more loudly until someone gives her the attention she craves.
Palin just needs to turn it off and go away. What kind of ideas come from someone who quit her job halfway through her first term? Every word from a GOP senator or rep that I have heard so far (including Ohio Rep. John Boehner in my neighboring district) tells me the Republicans are on the side of big business and not the people in the Gulf – a belief that echoes Rep. Barton's comments.
Palin yet again shows that she's a classless, loudmouthed idiot.
Sorry Sarah, you're the liar. You've been caught lying several times over your career as political trash talker...after you gave up and ran away from your job as Governor of Alaska.
Your words are as meaningless as your religion.
I believe it is a philosophy for many in the Republican party - if you take the republican philosophy of personal responsibility - BP should be the only one working to fix this mess in the Gulf and the government should butt out!!
Would you rely on corporations to protect you from their products!?!?! Do the right thing? I would not.....
And she did this via twitter, why???? OH that's because it's the big girl thing to do and OH SO professional for a presidential "wanna-be" to do. such a loser!
Amazing how Palin always finds time to defend the undefenseable. This ignorant woman continues to amaze us with her petty, narrowminded and mean-spirited words. All this from a woman who just a year or so ago, didn't even read a newspaper.
Here we go, Palin must be out of words to say, so here comes the lie word again, socialist, muslim, Obama is not an America, Obama is going to kill your grandmom, and Joe Barton opology never happen.give it a rest palin.people know what your up to.
I don't think what Barton said is GOP philosophy but,,,Barton's bad judgement gave the Dems this fodder. Blame Barton and get rid of him.
...Sarah Palin tweeted... 'Nuff said.
barton meant what he said and most republicans agree with him.they wont say it n publib.he only apoligize bcause he was forced 2 so he could keep his job
This rich. The number mama grizzly who continously misrepresents the truth is calling someone a liar.
Mrs. Palin never ceases to amaze.
Hey Sarah if you are going to call someone a liar do so to their face, using Twitter is being a coward, but that is just you. I happen to agree that the Repubs are and have been in bed with big oil for a long time (Bush/Cheney) Does anyone wonder why big mouth Cheney has not said one word about this disaster$$$$
All the kids at school love Twitter.
Barton generally says what he believes. He did apologize but in his heart, he meant it.
based on her latest tweets, i actually believe she wrote THOSE (and those only). Since they were just short of incoherent, they were obviously a product of her trying to use her mobile device.
Ever notice her Facebook postings? Well crafted, well written, and nothing like her rantings off the cuff.
Why doesn't she give a press conference? Let's see her in front of the main stream media. Let's see all those folks who are campaigning in front of the main stream media. hiding is just that....hiding.
Drill. Baby Drill! That's her philosophy. What a world what a world (quick, what movie was that last line from?)
Sarah Palin is the definition of empty headed uneducated fool, what she should use her mouth for is not speaking but taking in things, big things, and swallowing it, in hopes the protein will go to the part of her head where her brain should have been, she cant take care of her own family, knocked up teenage daughter which she allowed the boy to sleep with, maybe her and todd watching, and a little waterhead baby, no doubt from her bad genes, so while some of you inbred fools and perverts really feel she has anything worthwhile to say, its because of your own screwed up DNA as well, I wish there was a law to make stupid people shut up, and the idiots that wink one eyes at ya, kicked out the usa, he is a true embarrassment to the usa, the other countries are really getting a good laugh at us because of this fool, and her hillbilly family.
But it is the GOP philosophy! Reagan even said it when he was running against Jimmy Carter. I watched the debate.
Palin should be the last person to listen too about lieing. She does it all the time and has been caught in so many of them even Fox News is having trouble with it (ask Bill O)
Why does anyone ever quote this lady anyway? Her 15 min. of fame has faded
Palin needs to accept that she will never play an active role in politics due to her limited intellectual abilities and subpar ethics. She may make underachievers feel good about themselves, but we need smart honest people making decisions on a state and national level. The country and her family would be better served if she were to direct her energies to a more helpful goal – perhaps research for how to prevent or treat Down’s syndrome. Just imagine if she had put all of her ‘star power’ behind something positive.
My goodness, Sarah calling someone else a liar, it must take one to know one.
This rich. The number one mama grizzly who continously misrepresents the truth is calling someone a liar.
Mrs. Palin never ceases to amaze.
Rahm Emanuel reminds one of a gangster type. Wonder why?
Of course Rahm Emanuel lies. He is part of the Chicago mob isn't he?
Funny how politicians tip-toe around calling each other liars, especially when it came to Death Panel Palin.
I'd have to say, I'm kinda relieved that someone was willing to call another politician out on this. Too bad it was one of the worst offenders.
Clearly she's prepared to solve all of the complex problems facing this country.
