(CNN) – An official at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul said Ambassador Karl Eikenberry and Gen. Stanley McChrystal "are both fully committed" to President Barack Obama's Afghan strategy and are working together to "implement" the plan.
This comes amid controversy over McChrystal's remarks about Eikenberry and other civilian officials working on the Afghan strategy.
"We have seen the article and General McChrystal has already spoken to it," according to a statement from an embassy official, making reference to McChrystal's apology.
McChrystal is a rogue general who is committed to creating trouble. A shallow apology for undermining authority is not enough this time. Time for Stanley to get a job at Fox.
Must be pretty tough for the General.....working for a fool.
I guess Obama straightened him out on how to run a war.
McChrystal, you are a disgusting pig. To think I had people like that running the military when I served is so disheartening. We have young people following these types of clowns.
Get rid of him, he is not a team player. If you have serious reservations about the President's policy, you go to him. You do not air it in the public. This tells me McChrystal has other ambitions. This is the second time he has done this. NO third chances!!! Send him to Alaska to count polar bear. Backstabbers are the worse kind of people you can have around you. Please, Mr. President, GET RID OF HIM!!!
Get rid of the jerk - he has shown his true colors be they military or NOT -- who needs a big mouth running a war -
if he can't control his mouth what can he do --–
no one cares about his apology!
A Vice President isn't worth the dirt under a toenail, much less the head of a general.
The man had the audacity to actually tell the truth about the George Soros and SEIU's annoited one. He must be punished for telling the truth about this inept, corrupt president.
only problem is that that official happens to be the head cook in charge of salads at the embassy
really CNN could you be more vague?
This General must be taken out of commission. The lives of our troops deserve someone that can lead and know that he cannot make the kind of statements he made.
You better not talk badly about the Messiah, or you will be put in your place.
Obama is an idiot with no military experience at all. He is trying to win a war using politics with a bunch of savages. McChrystal is trained in how to win a war. So why not let him try? What a waste of time being in that country. No one wants us there so why are we there? I believe it goes back to campaigning when Obama brought the Afghan war to the forefront in a debate with McCain. I think he mispoke and now his entire involvement in Afghanistan is to cover for not knowing what to say during a debate without his teleprompter. Sad!
This man has been warned about his insubordination already. If you exercised that poor of judgment in an interview, then your judgment has to be called into question over your war strategy. This is what happens when military commanders are partisan. It was widely known McChrystal was a flaming Righty, why give him the latitude to smear this administration in public? Goodbye General, maybe your next interview will detail your misery from Antarctica after your re-assignment, if you're not discharged that is.
The irony is that McChrystal is making snide comments about VP Biden, who has been known to have loose lips, but the Generals comments still amount to insubordination. Punishment should be dealt accordingly.
everyone knows joe biden is a joke,,, and obama looks like a deer in the head lites when he is around the military or religious leaders,,, the truth hurts ,,,, sorry,,, its true,,,
Being in the JAG Corps in the Army, if someone really wanted to push this, Gen. McChrystal potentially has committed an offense in the UCMJ Article 88 –
Contempt toward officials
Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Homeland Security, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.
I don't think it will get this far, but clearly, it could be looked into. Interesting..........................
The General probably did not go as far in his negative comments as he could have. He is a professional soldier working for an pathetic administration that is not committed to winning.
No real surprise on McChrystal. Obama's half hearted engagement with the war tends to not give a good impression to generals. They don't say it but everyone knows it. McChrystal is well loved by the troops.
..... Being former military....I feel General McChrystal....Has the "The General McArthur Complex" ....And you know what happened to him?....................
As a United States Citizen I want McCrystal removed from his position immediately, taken off the payroll which I help pay for and drug tested. I do not want to see him back in Afghanistan.
This nut thinks he's Jack Nicholson in a Few Good Men!
He should not be given the honor to serve under our President. McCrystal's smug, arrogant, disrespectful arrogance is unsurpassable! Get rid of him, fast!
Of course General McChrystal is fully committed to the strategy. After all he came up with it. Generals and politicians always butt heads when it comes to war strategy and tactics. Generals want to use all means to defeat the enemy, but politicians have to worry about civilian deaths and our world image. Once the war is over the General's job is done but the president and Congress have to deal with the rest of the world.
Obama and his administration are messing up. The General has the right to his opinion–he's the one on the ground.
He should be dismissed. Obama should fire him; Obama should follow Truman's steps, Truman fired McArthur in 1951 because of insubordination.
1st Degree Insubordination. In a time of war, remember "Loose lips sink ships" analogy still applies.
Court-martial called for.
What will victory in Afghanistan look like? I'm guessing it'll be 10 year old Afghani children working 12 hour days stitching together tennis shoes for 20 cents an hour and Halliburton operating the largest copper mine in the universe. Isn't that the main goal? Have a nice day!
