(CNN) - Gen. Stanley McChrystal, America's top military commander in Afghanistan, has been recalled to Washington amid his controversial remarks about colleagues in a Rolling Stone article, officials said.
He was summoned to attend a meeting on Afghanistan and Pakistan in person rather than by video conference, a senior administration official said Tuesday.
"He has been recalled to Washington," another official said.
McChrystal apologized Tuesday for the profile, in which the general and his staff appear to mock top civilian officials, including the vice president. The article is set to appear in Friday's edition of Rolling Stone.

I agree with the General, Obama and his crew are a bunch of clowns.
Gen. McCrystal violated military law and his oath. Gen. Mullins and Sec. Gates should fire him.
The General shouldn't have to apologize to the top civilian officials, they should apologize to General McChrystal. And while their at it, the top civilians (Obama, Biden, Pelsoi, Reid and the rest should apologize to the American people for their poor leadership and their efforts in destroying this country.
In times of war I find it hard to believe he still has his job. After nine years in Afghanistan, it is time to get someone in who knows how to bring this to an end. Obviously, McChrystal who demanded a 'surge' of troops, is not much of a military genius on matters of warfare.
Anyone and anything remotely associated with Afghanistan is FAIL!!!! The United States screwed the pooch a long time ago in that country the minute we took our eyes off the ball just so we could go after Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Then again we had a chance to make things right back in 89' when the soviets pulled too.......
