Source: McChrystal knew he lacked support at White House

Washington (CNN) - Gen. Stanley McChrystal knew he lacked White House support when he walked into an Oval Office meeting Wednesday with President Barack Obama, a source close to McChrystal told CNN.

According to the source, McChrystal briefly explained the magazine article at the center of the controversy and took responsibility, then offered his resignation. Obama accepted the resignation, the source said.

The president "had no intention of keeping him," and McChrystal knew that going into the meeting, according to the source.

In addition, the source said McChrystal will not return to Afghanistan. His team will go back to pack up on his behalf.

Probably because the General told the truth. Obama is looking for a second term, the General was looking for the benefit of the soldier that is risking his or her life to keep that idiot in the White House. General Petraeus is no different, he said earlier that the surge in Afganistan will result in more casualties. And he was right. So what's the difference between both of them. They know the risk their troops are taking while our three pieces suit politicians are sitting there and pretend they know about warfare. They need to get their behind in the front line and take the same risk, as our soldiers and that to begin with our unexperience so called President.

( America still duped by powerful special interest groups) Dear Politicalticker and gang: I voted for Obama thinking he would be bright enough to get us out of the no win scenario in the middle east but I am sorely saddened and disappointed that the new administration is still falling for the same old tired rhetoric as the previous (if we don’t go get them they will come and get us. What a crock of bull that is. You think we would have learned from the Soviet’s mistake and the twenty years they were pounded into nothingness over there. The White House needs to stop listening to these special interest Jew groups now, and pay attention to General McChrystal! How many more dead soldiers and billions more in treasure do we need to keep losing before we wise up. It’s only going to keep getting worse for America over there. McCrystal is a brave man who fell on his sword for his subordinates–he could no longer tolerate how Obama and co. were shortchanging them and losing the war..Pathetic excuse for a Pres–he hired McCrystal and them threw him under the bus and disrespected him as the "general on the ground"...too bad for the USA that Obama would not listen to the one person who knew what was needed for success..it was a no-win situation for the General–may he have some peace of mind for exposing the scam.

President Obozo is nothing but an arrogant, selfish, thin skinned loser. He is a Chicago thug politician, NOT a leader. He has NEVER visited the troops in Afghanistan or spent any significant time with them. ALL of his actions regarding the war in Afghanistan have been for a photo-op and nothing else. This happened because McChrystal is a committed warrior and has done his job very well which cannot be said for the politician-in-chief we have in the White House who has played more games of golf than President George W. Bush did during this same time period in the White House. Obozo thinks of himself as a quasi-celebrity who wants to appear on late night talk shows and give parties and shake his groove thing with other liberal loons like Paul McCartney and also stay committed to his weekly basketball game schedule when he should be CREATING REAL JOBS LIKE HE PROMISED THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, not the insignificant temporary government jobs that last 3 months. President Obozo has never been committed to fighting the war in Afghanistan and his clash with a brave warrior like McCrystal who has sincere intent for success there says a lot about Obozo who also took several days to respond to the Fort Hood shooting and ignorantly states immediately after he took office that the "war on terror is no more." What a buffoon. Obozo should be submitting his resignation to the American people for being too inexperienced and incompetent for the job that overwhelms him so much so that he needs to have another party or take another vacation all while leaving the American people twist in the wind. He should be impeached solely for inviting a president of another country (Mexico) to Congress to preach to U.S. lawmakers about our laws. I am surprised there has not been a real assassination attempt against this empty suit/clown parading as a president.

I have no feeling at all for this general. Article 2; Sec 2,Para 1 of our US Constitution said it all. If he and his staff have a problem with that, retire, leave, resign, whatever! All you are doing is damaging our country and lending aid and comfort to our enemies!

I really feel bad for President Obama. He fixes one problem then another pops up. He had to pass the recovery act to stave off depression, bailout the banking system, the mortgage plan to help reduce the number of foreclosures, rescue the American auto industry ,then we had the swine flu epidemic; then he had to decide whether to escalate the war in Afghanistan. Then he had to do something about health reform with major opposition; then there was the disaster in Haiti (he had to send financial help aid and ); then the Arizona law passed (putting passing immigration reform to the forefront), then the this astronomical oil spill disaster happened; then he passed a 6 month morotorium on drilling; then people got upset because it will put people out of work who work in the oil industry (catch 22); then his General in the quagmire of Afghanistan starts mouthing off and he has to be replaced in order that America doesn't look like a joke to our enemies. Now he's got to find someone to replace Patreaus at Centcom. He now has to to get a climate and energy bill passed immediately because of the urgency this disaster has placed on it. He still has to do something about the lack of jobs and he has an entire Republican party who has made a conscious decision to block everything he is trying to do to fix this mess that the last President left of our country. I just wish people would stop being so hateful and pray for the President .He has had to deal with more problems than FDR and never gets credit for anything good he does. I was no fan on Goerge W. Bush ,yet I still prayed for him every night when he was President. That job is a huge responsibility!

As much as I agree that POTUS shoul dhave had no intention of keeping this guy, this article still just highlights what everyone should consider a huge problem with the "news" media. WHO IS THIS SOURCE? If you can't name him, don't freekin tell us what he said. For all we know it's just BS you "news" media people fabricate and it holds ZERO CREDIBILITY...no matter who it is, what they said or whatever. Either source it or scrap it.

I don't agree with the president's decision but am amazed at how quickly he acted when some people said something about him and his admininstration. Wouldn't it be wonderful if he would have that kind of passion for the people and the disaster in the Gulf Coast region?

Obama is such a thin skinned cry baby. When Obama was a U.S. Senator, and running for president, how many times did Obama knock President Bush? How many times did he insult Bush? Countless. Did Bush get mad, throw a fit, or ask Obama to come to the White House? NO! But say one or two little things about Obama and he cries, throws a tantrum, and has a TOP MILITARY COMMANDER fly all the way to Washington to resign. Totally useless and wasteful time of OUR tax dollars. America, better wake up! This is what you voted into office, this is what WE got. A community organizer with no skills, no qualifications, running this country into the ground. EVERYTHING he campaigns for he loses, except his own presidency. EVERYTHING he gets involved in turns to $h!t. 2012 can't come fast enough. We need this joker out of the white house.

Of course not! Nor would George W. Bush had kept the two generals, Casey & Abizaid whom he fired for disagreeing with the Bush policy in public! Nor would Bush have kept Admiral Fallon, whom he asked to retired after Fallon stated in an Esquire Magazine that the U.S. should not attack Iran!

Where were all the Far-right-folks when Bush fired the generals?!

Of course Obama wasn't going to keep the General...he wants only YES men in his circle. McChrystal was wrong for publicly stating his thoughts on this administartion in such a manner. Now he should retire tomorrow an hit the talk shows on Sunday an say what he really feels about the operation over there!

All the comments people are making are evil. The President will be a on term President, he is dump and etc . Now who do you think can do a better job ? No one ………..this man has done his best for the people and it is never good enough. And the reason why it not is because the color of his skin……..He got Health Care Reform, equal pay for woman and so on. How dare you think the Rep., party or the Tea Party is a better fit. Am so sick of hearing all of this negative bull sh#t. even the ones who voted for him it not giving him a chance . All of this negativity must STOP. President is for the people and you know that. But some of you cant handle it……Well get behind us …..God’s blessings, negativity should no longer dominate your day or your life. Nothing ever come to one, nothing that is worth having, except as a result of hard work, and the President work it hard. Remember Freedom is not Free you have to pay the price and bare the cost…………Let the President do his job and we do ours and keep a open mind and STOP turning on to FOX news, because it is the DEVIL with many mask.

Under the circumstances, McChrystal's resignation should have been accepted.

Respectfully, General Petraeus is an excellent choice to lead a strong mission for our country.
