Source: McChrystal knew he lacked support at White House

Washington (CNN) - Gen. Stanley McChrystal knew he lacked White House support when he walked into an Oval Office meeting Wednesday with President Barack Obama, a source close to McChrystal told CNN.

According to the source, McChrystal briefly explained the magazine article at the center of the controversy and took responsibility, then offered his resignation. Obama accepted the resignation, the source said.

The president "had no intention of keeping him," and McChrystal knew that going into the meeting, according to the source.

In addition, the source said McChrystal will not return to Afghanistan. His team will go back to pack up on his behalf.

You guys are failing to realize this was the straw that broke the camel's back. How much you wanna bet that they were gonna let McChrystal go a long time ago. The strategy going on in Afghanistan was his idea and it's not working.

Listen to the republicans commenting on President Obama's choice to replace General McChrystal. This general is the same guy that covered up the shooting of the football star. He put out news of the death and said he had been shot by enemy fire. They even tried to burn the body. What a great general to be in charge of a war?
Get over it .... republicans. McChystal was a dushbag hung up in his glory that was all in his own head. He reminds me of Colonel Custer and his thinking all the politicians in washington dc were whimps ......until the indians had killed all his men and came down on him!

The latest development of the McChrystal / Obama situation is not a suprise to me but I am still very disappointed of the outcome! As far as I'm concerned our present Administration is a complete failure and I have lost all confidence in what they are doing. Another two years of this is too much! I only hope that we as a nation can survive. I think we are in very big trouble!

I am so sick of people on here saying that if someone is bashing Obama, it must be a racist white person. Enough is enough! What about all the black people that are fed up with this goon? Are they racist as well? And just because I'm bashing him, it doesn't have anything to do with his skin color. Honestly, can you tell me what positive things he has done? Name one. And before you say health care, just remember that he had to bribe several senators in order to get it through. That is a fact, look it up. Go ahead, name one thing. Cause his win column is in the NONE area. All of theretarded, brain dead bleeding heart liberals on here better get a clue.

"I voted for Obama thinking he would be bright enough to get us out of the no win scenario in the middle east "

Then clearly you yourself were not "bright enough" to understand the words comign out of his mouth during his campaign, which were essentially that Afghanistan was the right place to be and where we shoudl ahve been from the get go and that he was going to do everything in his power if elected to win there, to catch or kill bin Laden and to destroy Al Qaeda's hold in the region. Moreover, you are apparently not "bright enough" to have paid attention to the current timetable that is part of his Afghanistan strategy.

"sounds like the anry black man came out on replaceing the general"

Sounds like the conservatives are finally getting frustrated enough that they are losing the self-control required to keep their racism from becoming overt. Hey genius, your fellow knee-jerk Obama-haters probably don't appreciate you providing us with further evidence that your and their mindless hatred for Obama has racist underpinnings. You're ruining all the fun they were having claiming that Dems just like to play the race card on anyone who disagrees with them.

    Duane Bernard:

McChrystal had the respect from men who are worth 20 of you. Typical elitist. You were probabably sptting on soldiers after Vietnam.

Someone stated that liberals and democrats never have been concerned about the military. As a veteran, I take exception to that remark. I didn't put in 20 years, but I served over eight years. I want to thank President Obama for his decision. It was with the integrity of the military in mind that he made it.

So your justification is that because McChrystal was talking to one of his subordinates makes it ok to Bash your commander. You seem to pride yourself as a 30 veteran, so the code of conduct say it's ok to bash your superior to your subordinate? Where did you get your 30 years @ Mickey Mouse place. You can't take back words and McCrystal had no choice and neither did POTUS you can't have top Military officer conducting themselves this way and breaking the rule of
:"CUBO". To all of you with your nicknames, OBOZO, OBONZO, Worthless, Muslims etc you should all be charged with sedition, leave the country and move where you can create a WHITE ONLY RACE, maybe AZ will SECEDE before TX

The General was insubordinate to the Commander in Chief. End of Story. Read the Rolling Stone article. Antics like his might get him into the A-Team, but in reality, also gets him fired. It was the right move to make. His integrity was compromised and that jeopardizes the mission.

obama could not get a security clearance before he was elected president and he is calling the shots for the military. Only in American politics.
That should give you a warm feeling of safety.
Hope you sleep well at night.

"Now he should retire tomorrow an hit the talk shows on Sunday an say what he really feels about the operation over there!"

Either that or, you know, McChrystal could keep his fat yap shut for the benefit of national security and whatever remaining dignity and integrity he wants to be viewed as having retained after this disgusting little episode of his. I bet he can't manage though. Dude drinks Bud Lite Lime and says it's his favorite drink...if that's not evidence that he's a little "off" in the noggin, then I don't know what would be.

Check the Uniform Code of the Military Justice.
Check the previous POTUS' reactions with similar cases.
    Have you checked?
OK, so what's the problem with the POTUS reaction to this case?
