Bill Clinton: 'Please donate $5 or more' to help Dem win Florida

Washington (CNN) – Bill Clinton is asking for money – to help Democrats take back a Senate seat in Florida. The former president sent out a fundraising letter on Friday for Rep. Kendrick Meek.

"Please donate $5 or more to Kendrick's campaign today," Clinton writes. "Help him meet his end-of-quarter fundraising goal by June 30 so he can take advantage of the dynamics of this three-candidate race." Clinton states that goal is $100,000.

Meek is locked in a Democratic primary battle against billionaire real estate investor Jeff Greene. Also vying for the seat are Republican nominee Marco Rubio and Gov. Charlie Crist, running as an independent after exiting the GOP primary.

The rancor in the Meek, Greene race has grown increasingly bitter as both men have traded barbs.

Among other things, Meek accuses Greene of being a "carpetbagger" and amassing his real estate fortune on the backs of the middle class in Florida and California, where Greene lived for many years. Greene slams Meek for a so-called "scandal" involving Meek's past dealings with a real estate developer currently accused of fraud in a project previously proposed for a Miami neighborhood. Both men deny those claims.

In his fundraising letter, Clinton called Meek "the best candidate" with a record of looking out for Floridians. And Clinton hopes Democrats can "take back this crucial Senate seat."

GOP Sen. George LeMieux currently holds the seat after Republican Sen. Mel Martinez retired. Crist appointed LeMieux to the seat.

Greene's campaign is essentially dismissing Clinton's ringing endorsement for Meek.

"Meek is a career politician and therefore has the support of the insiders and the Washington establishment," Greene campaign spokesman Paul Blank told CNN.

"The reason Jeff [Greene] is surging in the polls is because he's an outsider who's independent of all the special interests and is going to shake things up in Washington on behalf of the people," he added.

Excuse me???? CNN barely managed to collect $1 million for Louisiana, wildlife victims and he wants people to donate $5 or more dollars to help in a political race????

How about collecting those $5 for the poor families of Louisiana who are in need, loosing everything!!!!!!

Talk about out of touch with reality.

I am not a career politician as Willy Clinchem is. Note: "POLITICIAN". Poliiticians do not always serve the best interests of the constituents, but butter their own political plates wherever possible. Please vote for the young and energetic Marco Rubio, a republican. You see how the democrats have put this country in debt we cannot pay. Don't fall for that democrat crap that "it's Bush's fault" because it is not. You see for yourselves what a mistake you made in voting for the democrat Obama. We need to get them out of DC, not send more of them up there. Vote Republican, please.

Meek doesn't stand a chance. It's good Crist will win and keep that nutball Rubio from helping to kill America.

It is so sad to see former Presidents reduced to street side beggars. Save your money... no amount of money will get left wing DemocRATS elected this November. The American people have witnessed all the damge you have done since 2006 in the Congress and over the last 1.5 years with Obozo at the helm.

I love ya Bill, but Kendrick Meek is a nice man and a good person, but politically he damaged goods. Jeff Greene is a fair weather candidate who ran and lost as a rethugliban in California, then moved across country and switched parties. The rethugliban candidates are even worse – a guy who defrauded Medicare of gazillions of taxpayer $$$, or the one or marginal intelligence who used his RPOF credit card to pay personal bills, and whose $135k Tallahassee house (which he co-owns with another rethugliban) is in foreclosure. Nope, I'll go with the tan man. He may not be perfect, but his heart in in the right place – with the people.

The Dems are incessantly demanding that you pay more taxes, and now they want you to pay to get someone elected who will just raise your taxes even higher?

    Sorry, no.

Dream on Bill. I won't donate to any candidate for any reason. In my father's opinion they are all liars, cheats and thieves. Bill is #1 on the list. The sleaze factor of politicians permeates the air.

Send five dollars? Why not just vote for free? Here in the United State Money has taken control of just about everything.
The left would have you believe thought that Capitalism is the problem, and that the rich are the bad guys, that all the rich are corrupt, and the politicians know better!?!?
Like there are no rich corrupt politicians!

What nerve asking the American people for money, the Democrats have stolen so much of our tax dollars already. Very few will be voting for those in the Democratic Party. If the national election were today, the community organizer / social worker president would not win. The Republicans can hang the economy and the health care reform disaster on the Democrats and we can vote them out of office. In 1994 historians say the Democrat loses was a slaughter; the 2010 and 2012 election cycle is going to be a massacre.

    Let’s review
    higher unemployment
    higher taxes
    higher home foreclosure rate
    tax evading Democratic Party
    tax evading Obama administration
    the “Porkulus” Spending bill
out of control budget / no budget
    health care reform disaster
4 terrorist attacks in the USA since Obama took office
Oil spill disaster in the Gulf

Ahhhhhh, my name sake once again, at it for the demtard Kendrick Meeks. Hey, didn't I just read last week of Meeks being embroiled in his own misappropriations of campaign funds? He hasn't got a chance in Florida, so Demtard's save your money or better yet send it to Sarah Palins defense fund against DAL'tard frivilous lawsuits that waste tax payer money. Sure haven't heard much from your sanctimonious mouths about Obama's involvement with Blagojevich's "seats for sale" schemes, or Sestak or whatever that other DA'libtard is they tried to buy off to sit out of an election.

Change you can believe in, like from living in a free society to living in an indentured serf society!

I love you. You were the best president of my life time. 40 Years of Republican rule have done mortal damage to the US. Big-business Republicans still have a choke on this country with the Alito-Roberts control of power that will last a generation. Sadly Americans have the memory span of a turd.

Tell you what billy, you do something for the progressives in this country as opposed to handjobbing every corporation that comes along and MAYBE, if we have money left over after being forced to buy lousy insurance policies, we can afford to support your scummy associates.

I'll raise the stakes to $100 or more for Florida Demo but if a Demo doesn't win, give my money to Charlie Crist.

Sorry, Bill Clinton. The only person who's gonna get my money is a Republican candidate. I voted Democrat until I realized you folks are just hypocrites and liars. You don't represent the people, just look at the whole immigration mess. People want illegal immigration to end. And what are the Dems doing? They are trying to shove it down the throats of the American people. Shame on you!

Nope, the seat will remain Republican. We need to take the majority in the congress so all these ethics complaints that have gone nowhere because botox pelosi has prevented them from happening. She has even sent out donation requests stating she was afraid the Republicans would go forward investigating demorats if they took over the majority. What is she afraid of?

So Bill wants us to donate $5 to help some no-name screwball Democrat candidate in Florida?

Forget it. The guy would just vote to raise our taxes like the rest of the morally bankrupt Democrats.
