President Obama quietly moving on immigration reform

Washington (CNN) - The President was scheduled to meet with grassroots leaders at 3:15 Monday afternoon to discuss immigration reform, a White House official confirms.

Two sources outside the White House involved in the talks say immigration reform is definitely on the President's radar, and that Monday's closed-press meeting comes on the heels of a number of immigration movements that have been quietly percolating over the last 48 hours.

They point to National Security Advisor for Homeland Security John Brennan's meeting with Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, which is scheduled to take place as early as Monday in Arizona.

Secretary Napolitano has also recently introduced a number of border security initiatives.

One source involved in the talks adds that Monday's meeting is also in preparation for the federal government to file suit against the state of Arizona for its controversial new immigration law.

Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, and Interior's Ken Salazar are likely to join President Obama in the meeting.

Invited participants include:

Karen Narasaki, Asian American Justice Center
Rosa Rosales, LULAC
Janet Murguia, NCLR
Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference
Leith Anderson, National Association of Evangelicals
Lillian Rodriguez Lopez, National Hispanic Leadership Association
Eliseo Medina, SEIU
Richard Trumka, AFL-CIO
Angelica Salas, CHIRLA
Gustavo Torres, CASA de Maryland
Juan Rodriguez, Trail of Dreams
Dolores Huerta
Bishop Kicanas, Vice President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
Ali Noorani, National Immigration Forum/RI4A
Deepak Barghava, Center for Community Change

On Tuesday President Obama plans to meet with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus at the White House, one source said.

Man this list reads like a liberal dinner party guest list. Then again, who would of thought Obama to actually be bi-partisan on this issue (or any issue really).

Guess I better start brushing up on my Spanish, cause I'm sure he'll push for bi-lingualism is this country too. French Canada II here we come!

  3. Empty Suit President

Dems care more about illegal aliens than protecting legal citizens and enforcing the law. They only want the future Democrat votes. They don't care what happens to this country or that people disrespected the law to come here illegally.

  4. Napolitano is a joke

Big Sis recently said that the border will never be sealed. The border won't be sealed because she chooses not to seal it! It's time we hold our federal government accountable. They work for us!

Obama has already shown that he doesn't care what the people want when he forced through the bad health care bill. He doesn't care that the majority of Americans are against illegal immigration. He's way out of touch with middle America. One term president!

Here is what American citizen's want in immigration reform.

    1 Secure our borders
2 Penalize the employers of illegals
3 Quit subsidizing illegals with our social entitlements
    4 DEPORT illegal immigrants
5 Do away with the anchor baby platform of amnesty
6 Come up with a program that allows good solid citizen candidates to immigrate to our country, what can they bring us not what we can give them. We have enough minimum wage earners that bleed our entitlement programs dry, America does not need another 12 million!

The stance the Federal government has been taking under both parties is treasonous and is nothing more than vote pandering!

What the hell are you idiots going to do when the first Hispanic is elected President??!! There are going to be racist heads exploding all over the country when that happens and believe me . . . .it's going to happen sooner than you narrow-minded morons want to think! HA!

When you reform something you are trying to make it better. Obama's version of reform is amnesty. To Obama amnesty=more hispanic votes. Amnesty is bad for American taxpayers but Obama doesn't care if this country becomes a sewer like Mexico as long as he gets re-elected.

On June 28th, 2010 4:45 pm ET ... here is what HUGO said ...

Here is what American citizen's want in immigration reform.
    - – - – - – - –
I would like to start a trend on this blog and applaud HUGO for an intelligent post ... even if I don't wholeheartedly agree with it.

I don't support changing the rules on babies born in the US nor do I think it reasonable to deport 12M people.

I do think we should immediately punish ... by jail time ... managers, executives, employers and business owners that hire illegal aliens. Keep it simple ... put the burden of proof on the company personnel ... ignorance is no excuse.

All those jobs that "THEY" claim Americans "won't take" will get done once these exploitive employers have to pay a living, minimum wage for that effort. Minimum wage times 2 or 3 workers per house hold times 2,100 hours per year is enough money to live on.
