(CNN) – House Minority Leader John Boehner is stepping up criticism of his Democratic colleagues, telling the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that "they're snuffing out the America that I grew up in."

Boehner's comments are the latest indication the Ohio Republican is aggressively setting his sights on the November elections as it appears increasingly possible his party could take control of the House.

"Right now, we've got more Americans engaged in their government than at any time in our history," he told the paper in comments published Tuesday. "There's a political rebellion brewing, and I don't think we've seen anything like it since 1776."

But Boehner, who most certainly would become speaker next year should the GOP take control of the chamber, stopped short of predicting Republicans will gain the 40 seats necessary to oust Democrats from control.

"The American people have written off the Democrats," he said. "They're willing to look at us again."

The top House Republican also previewed the GOP's top priorities should he take control of the speaker's gavel, including a repeal of the recently passed health care legislation.

"We are going to do everything we can to make sure that this law and this program never really takes effect," Boehner said. "One option would be to repeal the $534 billion in Medicare cuts, which pay for more than half of the law's provisions. "They're going to need money from the Congress to hire these 20,000-plus bureaucrats they need to hire to make this program work. They're not going to get one dime from us."

Boehner also suggested raising the social security retirement age to 70 for those who have at least 20 years left before retirement as a possible way to finance the ongoing wars

"We need to look at the American people and explain to them that we're broke," he said. "If you have substantial non-Social Security income while you're retired, why are we paying you at a time when we're broke? We just need to be honest with people."

In a statement released Tuesday, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen said Boehner's comments are "a wake-up call to the American people about the dangers of turning back the clock to a Republican Congress."

The America that Rep. Boehner presumably grew up in never existed.

Oh, wise Orange Oracle, if "your" country is now on the road to destruction, then, remember your party, the shrub and the five time draft dodger, had 8 years to build and pave this autobahn to Hell.

Boehner is engaging in the time honored GOP tactic of fear mongering. They just have to convince Americans to vote for them, or an absolute calamity will ensue. Communists will take over! A black man will take your job! Terrorists will blow up your town! America will be lost forever! If they scare enough people, they win. If Americans take note of the changes being implemented by President Obama, and give them time to take effect, Democrats have nothing to worry about.

Remember, "The only thing they have to sell, if FEAR itself!"

What will be "snuffed out" will be the DemocRATS and their Progressive Communism come November. No sane person could look at what Obozo and the DemocRATS have done over the last 2 years and think it is good for this country.

They are determined to run this country right off the financial cliff with endless borrowing and entitlements, just Greece, Spain, Portugal and other European SOCIALIST countries.

They MUST be and WILL be stopped this November. A change to socialism isn't the change the American people voted for in 2008.

Yes, but the problem that a revolution should be against is the two party system that has been scamming this country for years. It's called Hegelian Dialectics.

The America he grew up in? So, an employer says 'Jump!' and you have to shout 'How high, sir?' Giving control of the health care market to insurance companies so they can screw patients. Cutting programs for the people so you can give tax cuts to the rich. That's not the America I want my kids to grow up in.

Boehner, you are a disgrace to our political system. You lie about everything for your own political gains.

The American people have not written off the Democrats. That is only happening in your own sick mind.

The GOP is not going to take control of the House in November.

As a matter of fact, you're not even going to be reelected.

You're the portrait for corruption in Washington Boehner, and we've had enough of you.

It's amazing that this man, alond with many other Republicans, act as though todays' problems are all on the shoulders of Obama. Where is their accountability? The previous administartion was overseers when the economy completely collapsed. George Bush borrowed money to give Americans $600 which was designed to "jumpstart the economy. While I do not like the way things are going, they are the ones who put us here and had no solution at the time it occurred. And his idiotic comment that Americans are looking to his party again, really? Is that what prompted the Tea party? He is acting like the Republicans use to act under Bush, with loads of arrogance and a disdain for the average and below average working man.

Mr. Boehner: The entire GOP is snuffing out the America you grew up in. . Your focus is to lead the entire GOP to destroy the President. Your party has done nothing to help America. May I remind you that we now have more than a million Americans with no income because you are the party of no. Do not tell me that these people are all sitting around a star bucks drinking expensive coffee and not looking for work. The only plan that is working for your America is the one that you and your greedy party have set out to do and thar is to destroy a President and nothing else.

  13. NYT:"during this election cycle big oil has paid 12.8 million in contributions, 71% to Republicans"!

From 100 seats to not sure about 40, Boner?

Yeah, the American people are looking at you alright and what we see is a party for big business GObP, and Barton, that actually thinks the President securing 20 billion for the little guy, is a "shakedown" of poor big oil.

Not to mention, the GObP party cutting off unemployment benefits while complaining about the high unemployment rate out of the other side of their mouth, because the fund is an "entitlement".

You betcha' we are a watchin"!

Sorry Boner - it was already snuffed between 2000 and 2004. Don't think the dems had any say then.

Vote out the party of NO in november.

We have to say NO to corporations, banks, and oil companies controlling this country. We have to keep the huksters away from the power they seek in order to further line their corporate pockets.

The America he grew up in was much more intolerant, much less collaborative, and much more insensitive than the America of today. That's a good thing, and Boehner's failure to see that just shows he is really out of touch with the 21st Century.

Yes Boner, the Democrats are snuffing out the America you grew up in... you know, the one where minorities were treated as second class citizens, where a small group of rich folk made all of their dough living off the middle class, and where a clueless buffoon like you can elected by mongering fear and hate.

I'm past 60. The America I grew up in was segregated, regimented, narrow-minded, and constipated. Every man and boy had short hair. We all wore the same clothes. The government and church were always right and could not be questioned. Schools dished out corporal punishment, and parents routinely hit their kids, and each other.

    Snuff away, Democrats!

Well John, a new time is here now and more coming. Things change and many times they need changing. The old thought forms of the America you grew up in are old and obsolete. You can't solve these problems with old solutions anymore. We need people to expand their thinking to create new and better solutions to the problems confronting us today. Running back in time and grabbing your "blankie" (old solutions), will not work anymore. It is a new and changing world now. The old ways just don't work anymore.

The Republicans are like dinosaurs, living in the past but dead in the present. He speaks of "rebellion." What he's saying in Repub speak is "back to the days when everyone knew their place with rich, white folks like him on top." Well, the US has changed, and thank God for that. The rebellion will take place when the voters purge politics of more and more Repubs. It's called political evolution. Just like biological evolution, it left the dinosaurs behind.
