Boehner: Dems 'snuffing out' America I grew up in

(CNN) – House Minority Leader John Boehner is stepping up criticism of his Democratic colleagues, telling the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that "they're snuffing out the America that I grew up in."

Boehner's comments are the latest indication the Ohio Republican is aggressively setting his sights on the November elections as it appears increasingly possible his party could take control of the House.

"Right now, we've got more Americans engaged in their government than at any time in our history," he told the paper in comments published Tuesday. "There's a political rebellion brewing, and I don't think we've seen anything like it since 1776."

But Boehner, who most certainly would become speaker next year should the GOP take control of the chamber, stopped short of predicting Republicans will gain the 40 seats necessary to oust Democrats from control.

"The American people have written off the Democrats," he said. "They're willing to look at us again."

The top House Republican also previewed the GOP's top priorities should he take control of the speaker's gavel, including a repeal of the recently passed health care legislation.

"We are going to do everything we can to make sure that this law and this program never really takes effect," Boehner said. "One option would be to repeal the $534 billion in Medicare cuts, which pay for more than half of the law's provisions. "They're going to need money from the Congress to hire these 20,000-plus bureaucrats they need to hire to make this program work. They're not going to get one dime from us."

Boehner also suggested raising the social security retirement age to 70 for those who have at least 20 years left before retirement as a possible way to finance the ongoing wars

"We need to look at the American people and explain to them that we're broke," he said. "If you have substantial non-Social Security income while you're retired, why are we paying you at a time when we're broke? We just need to be honest with people."

In a statement released Tuesday, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen said Boehner's comments are "a wake-up call to the American people about the dangers of turning back the clock to a Republican Congress."

    "Hell, no we won't!!"
We won't grow up in grow up in the same America you did.
    "Hell, no we won't!!"
We won't be confounded by a bunch of talking points.
    "Hell no we won't!!"
Surrender a lot of rights for people that have been achieved in order to knuckle under to haves like you who don't care if others have not. Folks if you are not aware of it, Conservative doctrine requres that "certain" individuals maintain superiority over others. Research it.
    "Hell no we won't!!"
We won't believe that someone stole your country. Hell, I wish they had, but from the looks of it, it's the one you and yours created and now tryin to blame the current administration. "Hell no we won't!!"

. If any of you vote and give control of this country back to the repubs, then you all deserve what will happen to us all. The Bush administration and the republican ran congress (house & senate) have caused this great depression to come upon our country and if we give control back to these repubs – who do not care for the American People(it has been proven for 8 years); who only cares about corporations even though do not create jobs for the middle class, who only cares about power; who will not and does not try to offer any suggestion to clean up the awful mess that the GOP created; who hold up every legislation that would help clean up the GOP mess that the GOP created; and spend all of their legislative time (Monday thru Friday and sometimes Saturday and Sunday) politicking instead of working. Then America we deserve what we get – perpetual neglect. If all of you would stop complaining and really listen and pay attention, then you will really see exactly who's working for the American People and I assure you it is NOT your GOP party in congress. This group of GOP in congress is so upset either because their party lost or because just the thought of being governed by a BLACK President has caused their concerns for governing to literally cease. This more than anything should bother all of America.

To Barack.Hussein.Obama-America's-Benevolent-DICTATOR: You are right. America is broke. It is broke by the extreme left wing liberals who want to dominate the discussions of the democratic party and the extreme right wing conservatives who want to dominate the discussions of the republican party. There is no room for moderation and compromise any longer.

I bet that isn't what you want to hear, is it? Moderation and compromise probably aren't in your vocabulary (just like Boehner). This country is being driven off the cliff because of hard headed americans who don't care about each other and are selfish in their beliefs and thinking. They can't cooperate and wouldn't know how if it hit them in the face.

Boehner and his kind in the republican and democratic parties are driving this country off a cliff because they just can't get along. Because of them all of American is suffering.

While I am with Boehner on his desire to reduce the deficit, I find his criticism of the Democrats as somewhat disingenuous – after all, it was Bush, Cheney and those two-faced Neo-Cons who originally presided over the "sinking" of our government . . .has he not forgotten the ridiculous rush into a 2nd war, when we'd already had our hands full from Afghanistan? Now we've botched both!

Thanks Wolfowitz, Feith and you other loud-mouthed hypocrits. As far as I'm concerned, the Neo-cons are enemies of the state!

Yes, this is not the America Boehner grew up in. In that America blacks could not eat in the same restaurants as whites. Women were told to stay at home and not have careers. Jews were not allowed into certain clubs. Gays had to hide in the closet or they woudl be arrested or beaten. And there are many other changes, thank God. Boehner, I grew up in your America and I had all the advantages of being a white male. Now that I've grown up a bit and looked around I see that my America was not the America of a lot of others. There was a lot of terrible, needless suffering and pain. This America is a better place to live. And it is getting even better, slowly, no thanks to the GOP. .

I just love the way Senate Minorty Leader Boehner speaks when he states Dems are snuffing out the America he grew-up in, could that be, because the America he grew up in always had a White President and now there is an Africa-American President. Just answer my question could that really be the reason Senator Boehner America states the Dems are stuffing out the American he grew up in.

I do not care what anyone says or how you try to slice it it Is Racism . The Ugly American is alive and well.

Seriously, just shut up. The America I grew up in is alive and well, it's ALL Washington politicians that are out of control/ruining the government. Republicans, stop acting like Democrats are an enemy. They are red-blooded Americans just like any of us.

Greed, no feeling of responsibility to the nation and lack of a personal moral compass as well as political hacks like yourself that are "snuffing out" (such a cute little code phrase for the indiscriminate to latch onto) America as we know it. Pack your bags and get out of town.

Boehner says, "There's a political rebellion brewing, and I don't think we've seen anything like it since 1776."

He seems to be forgetting the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's, the Women's Suffrage movement of the 1900's, and the record voter turnout of 2008. Boehner either failed history and has short-term memory issues, or he only considers white males as "patriots."

They are snuffing out the America of racism, homophobia, and economic inequality? Good! That's why we voted for them and not for the Party of NO.

That's funny Boehner.. your party actually already completely destroyed the values system of the country that *I* grew up in.

    Torture? check.
Lying us into an unprovoked war? check.
    Terror attacks? check.
Tax cuts for the extremely rich? check.

    Thanks for the above, Boehner.

"they're snuffing out the America that I grew up in." Oh Boehner, that could mean so many different things to so many different people. Be specific, will you? Please? I need to know what that 'really' means. Was your America the one of Strom Thurman? Was it the one of Lincoln? Was it the one of JFK? Truman? Roosevelt? What's your America?

Boehner is correct. Democrats have been determined to destroy this country since the 1960's. Entitlements, taxes, ever enlarging government, immigration policies, government spending, military cuts, open-border policies, political correctness, government-forced quotas, socialist takeover of academia and the media, etc., etc. These are all ideas embraced by democrats that are leading this country right off the precipice. Wake up, people and take our country back.

OH I forgot, fair and balanced never told you. my fault.

The GOP will do anything to capture power.........I hate the way they have degraded true substance for slogans that mean nothing..........

I will never vote for the GOP, as long as they lack a true vision for America...........

Let me ask, what's wrong w/ healthcare reform? Wall street reform? Energy reform/policy? Immigration reform? These are the things this President is offering America, and to be honest, these pieces of legislation will indeed help America in the long run.......We think soooo short term.......Last year, it was unclear how we would stop losing 750,000 jobs per month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now we've began the tough task of rebuilding, and here comes the I know it all, my way is the right way, republicans scoring cheap political points in one of the toughest times in USA history........It is vile and disgusting........
DEMS will have my vote in November.

Face it.. Democrat libtards want free. Free what? Free anything.. just so long as the other guy pays (or their children and grand children and the next ten generations pay) and they get something for nothing. Blame whomever... to a Dem libtard the end justifies the means, no lie too great or small, just so long as they get to ride for free. Eat for free. Get medicine for free. Retire for free... There is a name for this behavior.. it's called a parasitic.

Really, Mr. Boehner? Because I was just thinking the same thing......... that Republicans have destroyed the American that I grew up in. This used to be an amazing country full of hope and compassion, but now we only care about what we gain as individuals and to heck with anyone else. It's all about greed now. No chance at change and personal redemption when people make mistakes. Judge them harshly and quickly.

I'm often sad when I think of what 40 years of Republican rule have done to American. I'm often scared. But I'm rarely hopeful any more.
