Arizona Gov. to Obama: Do your job!

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she's not happy with the president's border response.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she's not happy with the president's border response.

(CNN) – The same day President Obama is delivering a high profile speech on immigration, a web video is making the rounds featuring a frustrated Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer imploring the president to "do your job" when it comes to securing the borders.

In the web video posted earlier this week, Brewer stands in front of recently erected signs 80 miles from Arizona's Mexican border that warn travelers "smuggling and illegal immigration may be encountered in this area."

"Two weeks ago I met with President Obama, he promised that we would get word from his administration on what they were going to do to secure the border. Well, we finally got the message, these signs," Brewer says. "I'm 80 miles away from the border and only 30 miles away from Arizona's capital. This is an outrage."

"Washington says our border is as safe as it's ever been…Does this look safe to you? Washington is broken, Mr. President," a visibly angry Brewer continues. "Do your job. Secure our borders."

The newly-erected signs are the product of the Bureau of Land Management, according to local TV station KPHO, amid urging from local residents who have witnessed a wave of drug-related crimes.

Brewer's comments come more than a week after a senior Obama administration official confirmed justice department lawyers are planning to file a legal challenge to the controversial Arizona immigration law championed by Brewer.

Federal government lawyers who have been working on the expected challenge for several weeks will most likely file their arguments in federal court in Phoenix in the days leading up to July 28, when the statute is scheduled to take effect, the official said.

Administration officials have indicated the question of Arizona usurping federal authority to control the border and enforce immigration law is the most likely federal point of attack against the state law signed by Gov. Jan Brewer earlier this year.

In his immigration speech Thursday, Obama again took aim at the controversial Arizona measure, calling it "ill conceived."

"It is not just that the law Arizona passed is divisive, though it has fanned the flames of an already contentious debate, laws like Arizona's put huge pressures on local law enforcement to enforce rules that ultimately are unenforceable. It puts pressure on already hard-strapped state and local budgets," Obama said.

The president also defended his efforts to secure the border both with Mexico and Canada.

"We doubled the personnel assigned to border enforcement security task forces," he said. "We tripled the number of intelligence analysts along the border. For the first time we have begun screening 100 percent of southbound rail shipments. And as a result, we're seizing more illegal guns, cash, and drugs than in years past."

"The bottom line is this, the southern border is more secure today than at anytime in the past 20 years," Obama added.

I am an ex-AZ resident and am confident when I say that both Jan Brewer and Sheriff Joe are both buffoons who play to the fears of the right wingnuts in the state and beyond. Illegal immigration has been here forever, no federal Administration has stepped up to address it and to put it on the footstep of the current President is a cheap and easy shot. Maybe no one has noticed, but the current President has been pretty busy trying to address the issues left behind by the last 8 years such as two wars, off-shore oil drilling disasters waiting to happen, high unemployment just to name a few. Why the hate and bashing when doubt you haters have lifted a finger to help your fellow man.

If we want to control immigration, then stop hiring illegals. I am tired of all this outrage, when the very people who are whining hire them for their gardeners, domestics, and housekeepers. And companies hire them for less than adequate wagers. America needs to grow up, we can not have our cake and eat it too.

Republicans are nastiest, most disrespectful people in our country. Who is this racist Governor to "scold" or tell the President to "do his job". NO ONE speaks of and to the President in such a manner.

If the AZ Governor did her job and went after the employers who hire illegals then her problem would diminish greatly. However Republicans are pro-business and anti-People (especially if they are non-white). Go after the employers and when the jobs dry up, so will the illegal problem.

Such disrespect constantly by Republicans is dishonorable, characterless, and shows they have no integrity and no values we want in our leaders. This is why their do-nothing and obstructionist attitudes should cause voters to stand up and vote these shameful anti-Americans out of office in November.

AZ needs to impeach this lady. SHe has no idea what she is doing , she is causing lots of damage, lots of problems, lots of embarrassment for Arizona, and she is not helping fix anything. Incompetent, partisan and worthless. The only thing dumber than her is the idiots that still support her.

The Dixie Chicks bashed Bush and they were boycotted.
Arizona Governor bashes Obama and her state gets boycotted.
Seems fair. Bashing our elected leader is akin to bashing democracy.

I agree with Arizona. I live in California. California is a very nasty place to live because of all the illegal immigrants. Thank you Arizona for being strong.

Of course, the good governor has neglected to acknowledge that deportations and border patrol agent numbers have risen in this administration beyond what they were under bush.

The Republicans look the other way on illegal immigration because it means cheap labor for businesses. The Democrats want amnesty for all because they see votes.

Looking at nearly every poll out there, even some liberal ones, the United States of America legal public wants deportation of illegals and the borders secured.

Now who will our government listen to? My guess is the special interest groups that support them, publicly and privately.

If the people of this country want our borders secure and illegals removed, they need to stand up at every public meeting, rally, and event that they can and tell our broken government that they are tired of the rhetoric.

Fix it or get out. If you don't, we'll vote you out and fix ourselves.

    It's up to you, Americans.

Master Obama is at it again – The Borders Are More Secure Than Ever Before – Is he high on grass, or is his Kitchen Cabinet stoking it for him. The statements made are nuts – He has no clue about border security, no more than he does stopping the oil flow in the gulf –

It is amazing how Barry Sotoero, aka Barack Obama, made it this far.....we must have all be blind. Where was the FBI when they were (mandatorily) checking his back ground.

Does Obama understand Americana – Red, White and Blue? Apple Pie and Motherhood, none of which we like to share with illegal border crossers. Nice job Mr Obama....how time flies when you have hopes for replacement....November 2012, can't come fast enough

Actually, he is telling the truth. Under his adminstration there have been more deportations and border patrol agents than previous administrations.

I'm sorry if that hurts your delusion of 'everything is falling apart because of obama,' it's the truth.

Let's look at the real issue. If businesses did not offer jobs to illegals they would not come into this country. All they want is a better life. Just like us. Do you blame them?

I'm sick of the politics the GOP plays. How many national guard troops did Obama send her? How many did he send to the gulf state governors compared to how many they're using. And us, the ignorant, masses are just gullible enough to eat this stuff up. Wake up people. This is how the GOP plays these games. Democrats are evil, they're tax and spend liberals, they're socialists, the president isn't doing his job. Seriously. I'm just plain sick of them.

This is an issue because the Tea Party says it's an issue. If Sarah Palin said Polar Bears not wearing underwear was an issue 50 percent of the country would be screaming about indecent wildlife and Glen Beck would be crying about it on T.V.

    Gov. Brewer,

Do your job and go after companies that hire people who are here illegally because the don't want to pay Americans a fare wage. The people who they hire are being exploited because they lack a real education and all they know is how to work. When are you going to pass legislation to penalize corporate greed?

WOW! Brewer really has no idea what she is doing. Her assertions about illegals has been continually shown to be wrong and the scare-tactics used by state legislators to get the bill passed are directly contradicted by a thorough Arizona State University study on illegal immigration.
It's funny how the GOP and politicians like Brewer and Palin are so easy to criticize anyone they don't agree with but god forbid ANYONE including the President confronts them with facts debunking their emotional rhetoric.
The best way is to have a full over arching reform since it is impossible to police the entire border. And a WALL?? Are you kidding me?? You want less spending?? How much do you think a wall the entire length of the US-Mexican border will cost?? And after that, what's next, the Canadian border?? A wall crossing 3000 miles??

They want small government but they are the first to scream when the Federal Government doesn't jump all over an issue they agree with.

Border security is a red herring for illegal immigration. The real issue is that they refuse to enforce laws prohibiting employment of illegals.

It wouldn't matter and doesn't matter what Obama does , the republicans are out to bring him down. Why aren't they helping with immigration? Why did Bush not help? All they are doing is trying to find ways to criticize Obama. I would not trust a republican or anything they would say. Governor Brewer is only trying to score political points by putting down our president. Why doesnt she stop arizona from breaking the law by hiring all the illegals. If they weren't jobs- they wouldn't be there.
