Arizona Gov. to Obama: Do your job!

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she's not happy with the president's border response.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she's not happy with the president's border response.

(CNN) – The same day President Obama is delivering a high profile speech on immigration, a web video is making the rounds featuring a frustrated Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer imploring the president to "do your job" when it comes to securing the borders.

In the web video posted earlier this week, Brewer stands in front of recently erected signs 80 miles from Arizona's Mexican border that warn travelers "smuggling and illegal immigration may be encountered in this area."

"Two weeks ago I met with President Obama, he promised that we would get word from his administration on what they were going to do to secure the border. Well, we finally got the message, these signs," Brewer says. "I'm 80 miles away from the border and only 30 miles away from Arizona's capital. This is an outrage."

"Washington says our border is as safe as it's ever been…Does this look safe to you? Washington is broken, Mr. President," a visibly angry Brewer continues. "Do your job. Secure our borders."

The newly-erected signs are the product of the Bureau of Land Management, according to local TV station KPHO, amid urging from local residents who have witnessed a wave of drug-related crimes.

Brewer's comments come more than a week after a senior Obama administration official confirmed justice department lawyers are planning to file a legal challenge to the controversial Arizona immigration law championed by Brewer.

Federal government lawyers who have been working on the expected challenge for several weeks will most likely file their arguments in federal court in Phoenix in the days leading up to July 28, when the statute is scheduled to take effect, the official said.

Administration officials have indicated the question of Arizona usurping federal authority to control the border and enforce immigration law is the most likely federal point of attack against the state law signed by Gov. Jan Brewer earlier this year.

In his immigration speech Thursday, Obama again took aim at the controversial Arizona measure, calling it "ill conceived."

"It is not just that the law Arizona passed is divisive, though it has fanned the flames of an already contentious debate, laws like Arizona's put huge pressures on local law enforcement to enforce rules that ultimately are unenforceable. It puts pressure on already hard-strapped state and local budgets," Obama said.

The president also defended his efforts to secure the border both with Mexico and Canada.

"We doubled the personnel assigned to border enforcement security task forces," he said. "We tripled the number of intelligence analysts along the border. For the first time we have begun screening 100 percent of southbound rail shipments. And as a result, we're seizing more illegal guns, cash, and drugs than in years past."

"The bottom line is this, the southern border is more secure today than at anytime in the past 20 years," Obama added.

So let me get this straight, our economy is in ruins (thanks to BIPARTISAN deregulation), we've got a multi-front war going on (started by a Republican), we've got an ecological disaster (due in large part to two Republican presidents hamstringing the EPA) and a truckload of issues both imminent and dire with Republican fingerprints all over them, yet the Republicans want to open up another political toy? This is THE new issue? That border's been unsecured since 1853 (Gadsden Purchase). Just like a spoiled child, starting something new and never finishing it, the Republicans are back again with their want, want, want. This will be an issue until what, a Republican preseident, Republican control of the senate or house? Grand Old Party is right. They get in power, throw a Grand Old Party for them and their friends, and leave everyone else to clean the mess afterward. You Republicans won't be seeing this swing vote for a loooong time, I can feel it. Your opposition keeps getting my vote by being more effectual and less ignorant, if only slightly.

I'm not an Arizonan, but my money will go to Jan Brewer's opponents in her next election. This is not a new problem, nor one solvable by political demagoguery.

Obama should be tarred and feathered and run out of DC on a rail. We must stop him from running our nation into the ground!

Wishful thinking! Not only will Obama NOT be run out of DC on a rail, he will win re-election in 2012 big time. The GOP are defenders of BP and Wall Street, not the American people. The GOP are liars and hypocrites! Where was your outrage when Bush sat in the WH for 8 years giving tax breaks to the rich? Most of us are not fooled into thinking that the GOBP cares about the average American. The GOP should be tarred and feathered and not pick up any seats in November! The GOBP and Jan Brewer are full of it. Go Obama and the Democrats! Just look at what that idiot Boehner said.

We have existing immigration laws on the books that provide quotas for immigration. The United States just needs to enforce those laws. My grandparents came to this country with no promises from the U.S. government except that if they couldn't support themselves once they met the qualifications for entrance into the country through immigration, they would be deported, no questions asked. I'm already helping Americans who refurse to help themselvs. And I refuse to help illegal immigrants whose country does not want them.

After her lies about most illegals being drug mules, who cares what this GOP/TEA loony says. She is hyping in an election year. If she and her party were really interested in illegals, they would not have killed a bill to require employers to verify soc sec #'s. Some of the GOP/TEA cronies have had 100 employees using the same ssn. The Bush/Cheney court killed such a bill after the Dems passed it.
She and her party are liars and hypocrits. Yes, we'll see you negativists in Nov. Let's get the rest of GOP/TEA thugs, and looters out on the a**es.

Hey brewer, why not enfore the E-Verify law already on the books and stop whining!

Exactly right. These people are just trying to support their families. If the employers were not hiring them, they would not be here. The Republicans will never support dealing with the root problem as it will step on the toes of the corporations that line their pockets. It is easier to whine and point fingers than actually do your own job, right Brewer?

I plan on taking a mini-vacation to AZ, esp the southern area. I'll take as many pictures and videos I can while there and send them to the WH asking them is this what you call safe and sound border?

Did the illegals just start crossing the boarder when Obama was sworn in? Or perhaps it's another job George W wasn't doing. And hey Jan, WTF, aren't you one of the Red State governors that want the Feds and Big Government out. Then plug the hole in the boarder yourself and tell your neighbors with the same ideology to clean up their own freakin' oil spill. You Teabaggin' Republicans are such hypocrites.

Maybe Jan Brewer like Sarah Palin does not read the newspapers, it's the GOBP republicans who are blocking immigration reform from happening.

There is nothing racist about enforcing the law. The Feds refuse to do their job, so it is up to the States to say when enough is enough. Politicians on both sides of the aisle are equally to blame. They shamelessly pander to whomever they think will help keep them in office. Gridlock is the politicans cover and protection. Someone has to show some backbone and take the lead. Thank you Arizona!

Wow I guess he has to have a heart attack to prove he is actually working. I have tired of hearing he is not working. I wonder how man vacation days do she take a year. Is she at the border with the patrol every second of the day. NO. I can see it now. President Obama went to the bathroom and he is not working.

Maybe the states could have a balanced budget. If it weren't for all the social programs for the illegal aliens. When are you liberals going to wake up to the invansion from across the border. And the drain on American taxpayers. Arizona is trying to do something that should have been done 30 years ago.

I can not believe that people are actually defending the president on this. These signs essentially say "we surrender." These American park lands are now off limits to Americans. They are in the hands of criminal smuggling rings. That means unchecked environmental destruction. Just think of the saguaro cactus, which only grows in the Sonoran desert and is an endangered plant, not to mention the crimes that are being committed on this now un-enforced section of American soil. Wake up people! Obama has surrendered part of our border to Mexico (he owns that decision – there's no blaming Bush for this), and many of you are still finding excuses for him.

This lady is a wack job. They send thousand of guardsmen her way, sent money and have signs posted. That is something. Also they are going to tackle immigration reform with this administration which no other adminstration has. Once again. She is just doing political grand standing. Im sure she would just prefer an all out war in the streets. This lady doesn't care about this country. She cares about her political career. Trying to talk tuff to the president. It is obvious that ths women just don't like people that are not white. She is sturring up hatred like a good Republican does. News flash republicans, this is not your country it is our country and no one has taken it away.

How many illegals has Obama allowed in since taking office? How many illegals has Bush allowed into the USA since taking office? Maybe we should see those numbers to determine who has and who has not done their job instead of just blaming Obama.

Sorry, but this President would rather secure jobs for illegals rather than secure the border. If it doesn't benefit one of his special interest groups such as La Raza or the SEIU this President won't do anything.

She should have said, "Mr President, here's what needs to be done to fix this problem. What can WE do together to get this done?"

THEN if nothing got done, she'd have every right to be mad

Where was this extreme outrage over immigration when the Republicans were in office? Ditto for the ballooning deficits and debt?
