Arizona Gov. to Obama: Do your job!

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she's not happy with the president's border response.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she's not happy with the president's border response.

(CNN) – The same day President Obama is delivering a high profile speech on immigration, a web video is making the rounds featuring a frustrated Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer imploring the president to "do your job" when it comes to securing the borders.

In the web video posted earlier this week, Brewer stands in front of recently erected signs 80 miles from Arizona's Mexican border that warn travelers "smuggling and illegal immigration may be encountered in this area."

"Two weeks ago I met with President Obama, he promised that we would get word from his administration on what they were going to do to secure the border. Well, we finally got the message, these signs," Brewer says. "I'm 80 miles away from the border and only 30 miles away from Arizona's capital. This is an outrage."

"Washington says our border is as safe as it's ever been…Does this look safe to you? Washington is broken, Mr. President," a visibly angry Brewer continues. "Do your job. Secure our borders."

The newly-erected signs are the product of the Bureau of Land Management, according to local TV station KPHO, amid urging from local residents who have witnessed a wave of drug-related crimes.

Brewer's comments come more than a week after a senior Obama administration official confirmed justice department lawyers are planning to file a legal challenge to the controversial Arizona immigration law championed by Brewer.

Federal government lawyers who have been working on the expected challenge for several weeks will most likely file their arguments in federal court in Phoenix in the days leading up to July 28, when the statute is scheduled to take effect, the official said.

Administration officials have indicated the question of Arizona usurping federal authority to control the border and enforce immigration law is the most likely federal point of attack against the state law signed by Gov. Jan Brewer earlier this year.

In his immigration speech Thursday, Obama again took aim at the controversial Arizona measure, calling it "ill conceived."

"It is not just that the law Arizona passed is divisive, though it has fanned the flames of an already contentious debate, laws like Arizona's put huge pressures on local law enforcement to enforce rules that ultimately are unenforceable. It puts pressure on already hard-strapped state and local budgets," Obama said.

The president also defended his efforts to secure the border both with Mexico and Canada.

"We doubled the personnel assigned to border enforcement security task forces," he said. "We tripled the number of intelligence analysts along the border. For the first time we have begun screening 100 percent of southbound rail shipments. And as a result, we're seizing more illegal guns, cash, and drugs than in years past."

"The bottom line is this, the southern border is more secure today than at anytime in the past 20 years," Obama added.

It's amazing how everyone on this post has an opinion, but not a single idea to add any value to the debate. If you want to add something to the conversation, try taking your finger out of your butts and throw some ideas on the table.

    Here's an example:
If you remove the reason to be here, you remove the desire to be here!! Do you have locks on your doors at home? Does that make your home "secure"? Not a shot! If there's value inside, someone is going to find a reason to break in and take it.

I don't see a GOP/Teatard/conservative bill being proposed in the Senate or House. Where is it?

Maybe instead of attacking Obama she should attack her fellow Republicans that are blocking immigration reform.

Gov Brewer, you are an idiot. Do you want George Bush's expensive 20 foot metal fence erected? How are YOU going to pay for it? More deficit spending that you Repukelicans like to criticize Obama about. How about you standing on the border and stopping the aliens rather than running your mouth?

If the boarder is not safer than it has ever been, the outrage should be about the billions spent on "the wall" and high tech dectection equipment. Guess they are saying this approach is not working. But they want more of it?

Isn't it funny that it leaks out that the Government plans on suing Arizona, then turns around and now the President is pushing Immigration Reform. Hmmm....makes me think that they found out, after they read the AZ law, that it was Constitutional.

Every citizen of this country should be outraged at President Obama's handling of the illegal immigrant issue.

That Governor is brazenly incompetent notwithstanding the rest. Mrs Governor, you don't argue the president. You probably dont know the limit of your power or you feel a strong sense of entitlement! America's policy vis-a-vis foreigners is a matter of foreign policy. Go back and work on your budget, the school system, and the rest and let the federal government do what's in its purview. It's good marketing to find a platform against the most vulnerable in society but it shows arrogance and incompetence when you in a power struggle with your president Madam

Why do you liberals think that because Bush didn't solve the problem Obama should get a pass? This president is only good at blaming others. He has no idea how to solve the current problems.

Be careful what you ask for! Continue to Boycott Arizona. We have bigger issues than little Arizona to think about. Lay down and cry Governor. You did it to yourself.

Who's Got the Best Solution for the Immigration Problem?
    1) I'm not sure. I think Arizona's law goes too far but the system is broken and must be fixed.
    2) President Obama. He wants a comprehensive approach to the problem.
    3) Arizona. The state aims to curb illegal immigration first, then attack the rest of the problem.
    4) Other ____________________________ (fill in the blank).

"I see the wittle boys(liberal, pink panty wearing kind)are up in arms as usual against any Republican trying to accomplish something."

I don't see a GOP/Teatard/conservative bill being proposed in the Senate or House. Where is it? Let's make something very VERY clear: the ONLY thing the Republicans are trying to accomplish here is to gather political momentum for November. That's ALL they are trying to accomplish. Period.

I agree with most of the postings on this topic. I can also appreciate the ones I disagree with. The fact of the matter is that all of this is just same ol politics. Arizona has been a safe route for years, mostly during the Bush Years. Bush wasnt concern about immigration he had two wars to fight and he also had to spend a great amount of time justifying one of those two. The people that speak up in opposition on here never voted for Obama and they are seizing at the opportunity to take a swipe at him, same issue over the BP issue. I voted for McCain but Obama is not doing a bad job at all. With the exception of the Dont Ask Dont Tell repeal he is talking he have gained my vote in 2012. If he let the gays openly in the Military then he will lose my vote.

Being a "Zonie" I must admit that Brewer is not the brightest bulb in the GOP sign board.

But she IS right about one thing – AZ is being unindated by illegals, criminals and drug dealers from Mexico and while I think SB 1070 is not the answer it does appear to have put a spotlight on the problem.

But until the slugs in congress decide to take on comprehensive reform of our broken national immigration laws and policies, AZ will not be putting out the "Welcome" sign for illegal immigrants or other scofflaws...

Oh, no! Two politicians turning Americans against each other! What a surprising turn of events! Grow up people, there's more to life and to other people than their political parties. Instead of trying to beat one another, maybe these parties should beat the problems facing America. Of course, they won't, because all the parties' members are too proud and egotistical to want to help such a horrible, terribly misguided REFLECTION OF THEMSELVES.

If you hillbillies want to secure your borders so you don't end up with a non-white nieghbor then move to AZ and join the border patrol.

Or you could just complain and think that Obama is actually guiding them across the border.

'Dubya'? Hey dude, get over it.

This is a Washington problem, not a Democratic problem. Gov. Brewer and AZ is doing what they are supposed to do when Washington won't do its job.

Ive lived in Az now for 8 years. This is a big joke. Rednecks here just want to blame Obama for something. Jans team want one thing and one thing only. Publicity. Our border will always let mexicans come accross even if theres a fence. Fences can be cut. If there were 10000 troops protecting it, it still wouldnt be enough. Her big argument is drugs. Oh the war on drugs. What a waste of tax payers money. Are we any closer to the end compared to 20 years ago? Make weed legal and tax it that should make few smuggellers. Crime would go down. Then again who knows. Everyday I watch the morning local news and rarely do we see something about drug cartels. Theres allot of people who smoke weed in this nation and we can make billions of dollars if taxed.

  19. Obozo's Recod Deficit + Higher Taxes

OBOZO and the DUMocRATS give a bunch of lip service, raise taxes, raise the deficit, but accmplish nothing.

This GOV was fine, leaving OBOZO alone until he stepped in and had a problem with the action she was taking to solve a problem. He stepped into, and like a child, is now throwing a tantrum because the GOV is coming back and tell OBOZO to buzz off.

I'll suport you, vacation there, etc.

I'm boycotting UNION companies and products as much as possible.
Just bought a HONDA to avoid buying American (Union) Car.

OBOZO now saying Border too vast and can be secured. What a joke.

The MOST WORTHLESS president ==> OBOZO

The governor should pull the Arizona National Guard people out of Afghanistan and station them along the border. These troops now have ample "live fire" experience, which should be enough to terminate any threat from illegals wanting to travel north.

The next step she needs to take is to come down HARD on those folks who employ illegals in Arizona. Seizing their businesses and handing out some very draconian jail sentences will turn things around in a hurry.
