Arizona Gov. to Obama: Do your job!

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she's not happy with the president's border response.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she's not happy with the president's border response.

(CNN) – The same day President Obama is delivering a high profile speech on immigration, a web video is making the rounds featuring a frustrated Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer imploring the president to "do your job" when it comes to securing the borders.

In the web video posted earlier this week, Brewer stands in front of recently erected signs 80 miles from Arizona's Mexican border that warn travelers "smuggling and illegal immigration may be encountered in this area."

"Two weeks ago I met with President Obama, he promised that we would get word from his administration on what they were going to do to secure the border. Well, we finally got the message, these signs," Brewer says. "I'm 80 miles away from the border and only 30 miles away from Arizona's capital. This is an outrage."

"Washington says our border is as safe as it's ever been…Does this look safe to you? Washington is broken, Mr. President," a visibly angry Brewer continues. "Do your job. Secure our borders."

The newly-erected signs are the product of the Bureau of Land Management, according to local TV station KPHO, amid urging from local residents who have witnessed a wave of drug-related crimes.

Brewer's comments come more than a week after a senior Obama administration official confirmed justice department lawyers are planning to file a legal challenge to the controversial Arizona immigration law championed by Brewer.

Federal government lawyers who have been working on the expected challenge for several weeks will most likely file their arguments in federal court in Phoenix in the days leading up to July 28, when the statute is scheduled to take effect, the official said.

Administration officials have indicated the question of Arizona usurping federal authority to control the border and enforce immigration law is the most likely federal point of attack against the state law signed by Gov. Jan Brewer earlier this year.

In his immigration speech Thursday, Obama again took aim at the controversial Arizona measure, calling it "ill conceived."

"It is not just that the law Arizona passed is divisive, though it has fanned the flames of an already contentious debate, laws like Arizona's put huge pressures on local law enforcement to enforce rules that ultimately are unenforceable. It puts pressure on already hard-strapped state and local budgets," Obama said.

The president also defended his efforts to secure the border both with Mexico and Canada.

"We doubled the personnel assigned to border enforcement security task forces," he said. "We tripled the number of intelligence analysts along the border. For the first time we have begun screening 100 percent of southbound rail shipments. And as a result, we're seizing more illegal guns, cash, and drugs than in years past."

"The bottom line is this, the southern border is more secure today than at anytime in the past 20 years," Obama added.

The President is sending in the national guard and predator drones to the boarder. He's given her all the tools - now she needs to do her job and quit complaining.

Did anyone else read the part where Obama says the law is uninforceable and that they are now screening 100% of southbound rail shipments? I thought the problem was what was coming into this country, like the exploding drug war that dwarfs the immigration problems of the past.

He claims its not part of local law enforcements duties, yet if they stem the tide of the drug war, their communities are safer. To serve and protect ring a bell? Lets not mix up the fact that this did happened because someone came here to work, its because an out of control killing spree has spilled across the border and the crime rate is out of control.

Let me see if I get this straight, the answer the Feds gave this govenor was a sign not telling the illegal people to stay out, but sign telling the US citizens to stay out of their land.

    Go figure.

I don't get all the Obama bashing. Where was your anger at previous administrations? Bush let just as many illegals in the country as Obama. Has any single member of the current GOP stepped up and offered a reasonable solution for protecting the border?

Mean While The Mexican Express Train is running through Mexico bringing more illegals every day and obammy mammy is worried about the one thousand a day that are being deported. For every thousand that are deported 10 thousand come in illegally. This is going to pitt the people again the government and its going to be nasty. Pussy politicians have no intestinal fortitude to enforce our laws.

The same "patriots" that complain about big government and tyrranical control by the government are clearly talking out of both sides of their mouths on this issue. You're all for states rights – handle it yourself, don't go crying to the feds.

Here's a solution: I know I can't get into New Jersey without paying a toll. So why doesn't Arizona erect one gigantic toll booth across their border with Mexico and everyone else? That should work. It won't keep the illegals out, but at least Arizona will make some money. But seriously, as others has mentioned, there is no single answer and no single individual to blame for this. This is a national issue that requires every govermental body (local, state and federal) and every business and private individual (i.e the people) to work together to find a solution. Governor Brewer's comments do absolutely nothing to work towards a realistic solution – she only plays the political blame game. My advice, throw them all out of office until we find some folks who are willing to work together.

Did I miss something? Why is border control and illegal immigration such a critical problem all of a sudden? It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that a black Democrat is in office, now would it??

Just a thought about ThankYous comment "This makes it impossible for an illegal to report a crime" Maybe that is a real good reason to come through the legal process. You can avoid being a victim of someone who knows you will be afraid to ask for help

Waa waaaa (in case you're wondering, that's to represent a crying baby).

Jan Brewer is a bigot and a neocon, and if she has a problem with how our gov't is handling the border... she become the next president and change things.

Obama, why don't you take the easy way out and secede Arizona to Mexico. That way you'll save face with the Mexican president and it appeases ACLU, immigrants (legal and illegal), and create a large playground for drug kingpins, murders, etc.

Plus it'll save money for the government to create flags with only 49 stars on it; and while you're at it, give Hawaii back to the natives, and Alaska back to Russia. Give the current northern border states to Canada while you're at it to appease the Canadians – they'd be happy to have all the Great Lakes and Niagara Falls to themselves. Plus they'd get more baseball teams: Mariners, Twins, Cubs, Whitesox, Yankees, Mets, ... and gee, don't forget the Knicks, Giants, Jets, Seahawks, Bears, Vikings, Bills,...and the Bruins, Sabres, Northstars, Rangers, Islanders. Mexico could join our MLB with the Arizona D-Backs, and yeah, give them Texas and Cailfornia....just think of all the joblessness there you wouldn't have to worry about....Yeah, I can see Kobe Bryant playing for the Cancun Lakers!....

Mr President: please act on the current immigration laws first, beofre you go muddying them up with all this rhetoric over the need for 'Comprehensive Immigration Reform.' The only reform America needs is a new administration who will enforce the currnet laws of the land that were agreed upon and signed off already. The laws aren't broken, WASHINGTON DC is!!!!!

Her job is to SUPPORT and DEFEND the people and CITIZENS of Arizona.

Her budget is buried in spending on ILLEGAL ALIENS for Schools, Prisons, Hospitals, Housing, Welfare, Etc.... It eats up 35% of her budget conservatively....

The ILLEGAL ALIENS must be pushed ouf of the country.

    BARACK is a crook.

The federal gov continues to fail the nation in not enforcing current laws, not protecting our borders, thus forcing the states to take action. Take positive, non-political action Mr.President. Focus on the USA.

Gov. Brewer may be better served telling members of her own party to get to work rather than saying "Hell no" to any and every effort to clean up the messes they created.

Gov. Brewer, what do you expect president obama to do? He has given thousands' beautiful speeches while crashing so many teleprompters. He has promised for doing everything possible thousands' times. He has bowed to almost every of our past and present enemies except our allies or friends in the world. And finally,h has spent 3 trillions of taxpayers' money so far in one and half of years to stimulate the economy and increase employment. The things are not changing and the hope is not forthcoming are someone's fault, OK? There are nothing to do with Obama, OK?

What a racist and incompetent State Governer. The State is becoming a haven for right wing nut cases. Just go to your ancestory and see where they came from. I am for stopping illeagal immigrants. But it is within the government's power to stop wasteful, welfare and medicaid programs. Nobody wants to address the issue.
