House votes to extend jobless benefits

The House of Representatives on Thursday approved a bill extending long-term jobless benefits through the end of November.

The measure also includes some retroactive assistance, providing payments to people whose unemployment insurance lapsed at the end of May. A similar measure has stalled in the Senate, and it's unclear whether the body will pass it after the July 4 break.

Keep the Senate in session until they determine that they are Americans first and party members later. This isn't Russia or China, the country comes first.. Tke out your ire at George Bush since you cabn't deny that $5 trillion of the deficit was run up by him and the Republicans in 8 years of free-spending on the Chinese credit card.

"Why look for a job when I can skate by a little longer on unemployment benefits?"

Sorry, but nice try Fake Sniffit. If you think it's easy or pleasant to attempt to "skate by" on unemployment bennies, then you obviously have never had the misfortune of trying.

The Republicans are heartless. Sure, some people may be using the system to their advantage because that's human nature. But considering the number of people who are unemployed during this recession through no fault of their own, stopping their unemployment is just plain mean spirited. What about their children? How are they supposed to feed clothe and house them until they can find a job? I always thought we Americans, especially Christians, lived by the credo to love they neighbor as thyself. Yet our fellow Christian Republicans want us to turn a blind eye to these people in need. Not very Christian of them, is it?

Why are there so many people so quick to judge? Calling the unemployed lazy, and what have you. My husband is 59 years of age, and was laid off from a home builder in '08 (thanks to the last administrations lack of leadership). Do any of you judgemental, self righteous, hard hearted idiots know of any company hiring 59 year olds? If so, please let us know. The unemployment he was getting, was just a scratch in the bucket!!

Take all the garbage out of the bill, and leave it as ONLY jobless benefits, and it will pass.

The tendency for Congress to try to pass bad legislation along with desirable legislation, is part of what is wrong with Congress.

It turns out that for this administration and congress, apparently it is easier to pay people not to work than to create an environment where businesses can grow and hire. How's that " Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, Jobs ( Nancy Pelosi 2009 )) $1 trillion stimulus bill working out? How about that July 2009 increased Minimum Wage ? The automobile and financial company bailouts?

That's okay. Just keep extending unemployment benefits until 2012 when we can vote someone in who understands economics.

Continue looking ignorant, insensitive and self-centered by arguing otherwise because you just can't bear to let a peceived opportunity to criticize Obama and the Dems pass you by.

Good Lord, Sniffit, they CAN'T choose. Listening to pundits everyday - all day - tell them what to think has destroyed any common decency these brainwashed fools might have once had .

Their addiction to Breck, Hannity, Rush, Palin, et al, is so great I doubt any of them can function normally without their daily fix, let alone think for themselves.

It is so easy it is to vilify others. All unemployed people are lazy freeloaders. All illegal alians are drug dealers and thieves. The Democrats want to destroy our country. Obama is a socialist.

Don't you wish clues were available at the local market, so some people (teabaggers, that means you) could go out and buy one?

Oh, and by the way, I'm sure there are several unemployed people in the same situation (in their 50's or older). Who do you people think are getting the boot? The people who are too old for some of these companies, and too young to get any of the other benefits. Can we at least get unemployment? What are we to do?

I have been unemployed since December 09, and have been actively looking for a job since then with no luck. Unemployment didnt pay half of my bills but it kept food on my table and the ability to look for employment. I have worked for 24 years and this is not for me. I am like many who need unemployment to continue until we can find a job. Don't judge until you have been in that situation.

I am so amazed that after all that has been said and done in this ridiculous senate, that some of you are still blaming the democrats and assuming the unemployed are lazy bums on drugs. You are a bunch of ignorant and self centered A HOLES!

FYI I am an accountant(CPA) whose firm shut down due to bankruptcy 9 months ago, since then I have yet to find a steady place to work. So before your mouth continues shooting garbage, do your dam homework.

Go to hell you Republicans. I will never vote for you again. I don't care what anyone has to say in respects to this matter.

You would have to be in our shoes to understand what it is like right now, having no income whatsoever. I pray that you never fall on your face and your family never has to look down at you.

For those millions suffering right now, may God give us all the strength to get through this. We need to keep having faith that God will shine some light on those who are suppose to be here for us "the people of the United States of America".

    Peace be with you all!
