Portland police reopen therapist's complaint about Gore

(CNN) - Police in Portland, Oregon, say they have reopened their investigation into a massage therapist's allegation that former Vice President Al Gore had "unwanted sexual contact" with her in 2006, a police spokeswoman said Wednesday.

"The Portland Police Bureau has made the decision to re-open the case regarding the allegations brought forward against Mr. Al Gore," Detective Mary Wheat said in a statement issued Wednesday afternoon. "Consistent with our policy regarding open investigations, the Police Bureau will not be commenting
on any additional specifics regarding this case at this time."

A renewed investigation "will only benefit Mr. Gore," said Kalee Kreider, a spokeswoman for the former vice president.

"The Gores cannot comment on every defamatory, misleading, and inaccurate story generated by tabloids," Kreider said. "Mr. Gore unequivocally and emphatically denied this accusation when he first learned of its existence three years ago. He stands by that denial."

The therapist told police in a prepared statement in January 2009 that she was "repeatedly subjected to unwanted sexual touching" by Gore during an October 2006 massage she performed on the former vice president at his hotel room, Portland police disclosed last week.

The department concluded there was not enough evidence to bring charges against the former vice president. Police said her attorney had approached police in 2006, but she did not speak with detectives at that time.

The attorney told investigators in January 2007 that the accuser would pursue a civil case and "declined the assistance" of detectives. The Police Bureau said last week it disclosed the matter after a story on the complaint appeared in the tabloid National Enquirer.

Please, Gore probably believed his actions were welcomed by the therapist because afterall he was the VP of our country, is a wealthy, famous environmentalist. He probably thinks any woman that turns him down is crazy.

The Gores don't have to comment about this. The victims will. And then Mr. Gore will have to answer to charges in a court of law. What goes around comes around. He has defrauded so many people that many of us will glory in payback.

it will be interesting where this leads to. if these alllegations are proven true then many people will have to re-think their idea of who Al Gore trully is. but like anyone else, he is innocent until proven guilty.

I believe that if any of this were true she would have stopped the massage. This is a 54 year old wold woman, give me a break! She's not a young girl who may not have known how to handle the situation. And I'm sure that during their training that they were taught how to handle a situation like this. My daughter is a Massage Therapist, and she doesn't believe her either.

True or not, I'll just say that nothing, absolutely nothing surprises me anymore, after all these 62 years. This is why people should neither judge nor exonerate until an issue is completely settled one way or the other. Let the investigation take place and the facts speak for themselves.

It's unfortunate that people will use an encounter with a famous person to scam money. Shame on her for all the women who really are assaulted and have such a hard time getting justice.

Is there no statute of limitations on a charge like this?If there isn't, there should be. This could be a spurious attempt to blackmail or to damage a prominant persons reputation for political reasons as well. If this is a legitimate complaint, why has she waited so long to bring it out?Unless there is tangible evidence of this action, if I were a judge,I would throw it out of court

This sounds odd. $540 for a massage? The most expensive massage I have found is a $240, ninety minute session at the St Regis in Aspen.

Gore should have give back that Nobel Peace Prize he doesn't deserve and that $700 million he scammed off the American people with his 'global warming' scam.

Even if this woman were correct, why would she wait several years to bring the charges forward? I smell "money" and/or "revenge."

  20. Limbaugh is a liberal

She's not using detectives, nor any evidence, and she's trying it not in criminal court but in a civil court, AND she's seeking media attention = i.e. she's making things up to get attention so she can force the former VP into a large cash settlement. She's just a greedy slef-centered liar.

If I were a conspiracy theorist I'd blame the whole thing on Al Gore trying to hype himself in the media as somekind of masculine man (despite his aging, unflattering looks these days that make you wonder whether he even has a sexual drive at all) for perhaps another book he's coming out with?

Pretty sad that a former Democrat VP is being investigated for "inappropriate touching", yet a certain former Republican VP wanders free after screwing a whole nation, and parts of the Middle-East too.

This massage therapist is hard to regard seriously: her story belongs in the National Enquirer, beside a photo of a two-headed cat that prophesies by tapping its paws.
