Pregnancy assistance fund tied to 'common ground' abortion plan

(CNN) – The Health and Human Services Department announced Friday that it is making $25 million available to states to support pregnant women and teen parents, in an initiative that the White House is framing as a way to find common ground on abortion.

The new federal Pregnancy Assistance Fund will award grants to states aimed at providing pregnant women and teen parents support for completing high school or college degrees and for getting health care, child care and housing, HHS said in a news release Friday.

The grants can also be used to combat violence against pregnant women, the release said.

In an e-mail announcing the initiative to nonprofit groups on Friday, the Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships at HHS tied the new fund to the abortion issue.

Okay Obamaphobes take a swing at this one. But remember this actually a solution that promotes life. It is everything Obama promised middle ground. It shows that one can be pro-chioce and work to cause fewer abotions.

How about we take unemployment away from healthy
men who don't want to work and give the same payments
to women who want to earn a degree.
Now that would be investing in the American people.
And the healthy men who don't want to work can join
    the damn French Foreign Legion.

I say hell no! I do not want my tax dollars spent on pregnant teen's housing or support. Let their own families be accountable. We don't want to extend unemployment for hard-working citizens so baloney to this. Providing assistance teens or women who can't afford babies just creates more welfare need in the long run. I have a better idea, let the pro-lifers pay for it all; that way they can put their money where their mouths are.

    *************
Money to actually help pregnant teens get an education and keep their babies? republicans certainly won't stand for that! Actually helping someone ... that's so .... Democratic!

The republicans want "punishment for having sex" – ie -have the kid but with no support or help ... unless, of course, your name is Bristol Palin.

Translation: Jesus and Obama will help you avoid the unpleasant consequences of having easily preventable children or having them when you can't afford it, and the rest of us will pay for it. Opiate of the people.

My son finished High School while a teenage parent without government help, why can other parents not help their children in their time of need. I guess their priorities for their money and time are more for their self indulgence instead of their family. This is just another backdoor for taxpayer paid abortions which is wrong. And in addition for the blame game on the economy Obama and his liberal friends in the legislature are also just as responsible for its star as Bush administration with their protecting Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from regulation that the republicans and Bush wanted in 2005 which would have helped to minimize, if not prevent the Housing Bubble which started the economic problems of today. But most Americans with their short term memories and the liberal bias of the media have protected Obama and the other democrats from being held responsible for their actions. Also most Americans forget the democrats have held the Congress and the Government Purse for almost 4 years.
