Washington (CNN) - California Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina is resting comfortably after undergoing surgery for breast reconstruction on Tuesday.
Fiorina was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. Following her diagnosis, Fiorina received treatment that included chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and radiation, according to a statement from Fiorina campaign Chief of Staff Deborah Bowker.
"Since that time, Carly has been actively campaigning while also taking the steps toward reconstruction," Bowker said.
"This morning she successfully completed the final surgery in that reconstruction process. Carly is in good spirits and is happy to have concluded this difficult chapter in her life," Bowker added. "She is thankful to her family, friends and the many people who have supported her throughout this successful battle."
Fiorina is vying to oust three-term Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer.
Bowker ended her statement by saying, "A quick recovery is expected, and Carly is looking forward to being back on the campaign trail in a matter of days."

praying 4 a speedy recovery 4 u!
This is a difficult and painful part of the fight with cancer. It says a lot about the courage Carly has for her to take on a significant Senate campaign before it is all completed. I wish her all of the best.
Best of luck and good health to you!
I wish her the best . I hope her operation goes well.
Get well Carly. California, and the nation, need you.
Happy healing to our future US Senator. Looking forward to her replacing Barbara Boxer in the senate
Simply amazing. Obviously, a woman with some guts and drive.
I wish you the best and get back to work soon we need you.
My wife is a breast cancer survivor may God bless her.
Godspeed Carly. I hope all goes well with you. Don't forget to stop and smell the roses and be glad to be alive.
I wish Carly Fiorina a speedy and full recovery.
Fiorina and Meg Whitman are impressive candidates in California.
Whitman has been an executive with Disney, DreamWorks, Procter and Gamble, and eBay.
Fiorina was CEO of Hewlet-Packard.
California is in crisis – the last thing it needs is Jerry Brown and Barbara Boxer for another four and six years, respectively.
this is really low, bottom feeding reporting CNN. Cant a woman have surgery after a courageous bout with cancer and not have cnn politicize her having cosmetic surgery. You wonder why americans distrust and dislike you!!!
As with everyone recovering from this terrible disease I hope you remain in remission and recover quickly... But you will have plenty of time to rest after the November elections. Honestly, you really don't think you're going to win in California, do you?
