Biden jokes about wrong prediction

Joe Biden said Friday he doesn't have a good track record with making predictions.
Joe Biden said Friday he doesn't have a good track record with making predictions.

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden predicts that the Netherlands will win Sunday's World Cup championship game in South Africa, but admits his track record may not be that great.

"I think the Netherlands are going to win, but what the hell do I know? I thought LeBron was going to stay," Biden told Jay Leno Friday, in his first appearance on NBC's "The Tonight Show" since taking over as vice president a year and a half ago.

The vice president was pointing to a comment regarding NBA superstar LeBron James that he made a week ago in Ohio while campaigning for the Democrat's Senate nominee in that state. James announced Thursday the he was leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to play with the Miami Heat.

Leno joked about Biden's tendency to speak his mind and make public gaffes. Biden said he warned then fellow Democratic Sen. Barack Obama about that, before signing on as Obama's running mate in the 2008 presidential election.

"I told the president two things when he asked me to do the job. I said, 'Just two conditions, Mr. President. I'm not going to wear any funny hats, and I'm not changing my brand.' And I kept my promise," Biden told Leno.

The late night talk show host also questioned the vice president about Friday's spy swap with Russia, in which the U.S. sent ten accused spies back to Moscow for four in return. Leno asked if the U.S. got a raw deal.

"We got back four really good ones," Biden told Leno. "And the ten, they've been here a long time, but they hadn't done much."

Asked about the return of one of the ten, attractive alleged Russian spy Anna Chapman, Biden joked "let me be clear. It was not my idea to send her back."

Also Friday while in Los Angeles, the vice president headlined a fundraiser for Sen. Barbara Boxer of California for the second straight day. The event was held at the home of Tom Rothman, co-chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment, one of the largest movie studies in the country. According to a pool report, the event was expected to raise some $200,000 for Boxer. The three term Democratic senator faces a tough re-election bid this year against Republican nominee Carly Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard.

Biden closed his comments at the fundraiser by saying that "California is coming back, America is coming back and Barbara Boxer is coming back."

Biden is an incompetent jerk. So isn't his boss. Voters will remove their power in November and remove their employment in 2012.
    Enjoying the wait.

    Joe,

You know that "The Villages" is America's Friendliest Hometown. You also know that "You can't go into a 7-11 or Dunkin' Donuts in Delaware without a slight Indian accent."

Hey Dutch – a little civics lesson: you can't "vote out" Biden this November.

Oh big deal. He admits he's wrong about soccer. I'm waiting for him to admit that he was wrong for helping his arrogant, corrupt, and not-so-bright boss destroy the U.S. economy and for making the U.S. a laughing stalk around the globe. That will be news!

Langlais; you are since you can't see what is really going on with this far left president and VP. all of the far left liberals here can't see what is really happening. By the way; I'm not a Republican; I vote a split ticket. I'm just a concerned person who is worried about the direction this country is headed in under Obama.

Don, I just love those people who claim they voted for Obama, but then try to influence the fence sitters by claiming they were so wrong and would never do it again. Nice try, but try a different stragety, like intelligent dialogue? And by the way, learn how to spell impeachment you ignorant troll. Compare to what Bush and Cheney did to you, Obama has done nothing except to try and protect you from the Las Vegas Banking Industry, the Corrupt Oil Industry, the Greedy Insurance Industry and oh, obviously yourself.

For those who think bite me is the best, please stick your heads back in the sand and wait for the puppeteer to wake you.

Has anyone seen the documentary "Gasland", yet? No matter what Joe Biden does, it can never be as disgusting as what Dick Cheney has done.

"ust goes to show that the VP and P are more interested in basketball than what is going on in this country. "

Unlike perhaps... strumming a guitar at a fund raiser while New Orleans floods?

"And everyone is predicting that Barry will throw uncle Joe under the bus when he names a new VP in 2012!"

Who is this "everyone"? I haven't heard this from ANYONE... but you.

Annie, I realize that we only have two more years of Obama and Biden, unless they are impeached first for ruining our country.

I've noticed some of the comments are simply about the hatred the wingers have for the Vice President. Did they not read the article? No topic appears light enough to keep them from spreading their venom. Hate is a full-time job.

One of the most irratating (there are many) things about Biden is his "potty mouth". You would think that someone in his position would choose their words more carefully. What else does he have to do but go on Late Night TV or play golf? The man is an idiot!

You know, I don't really care for Biden, but at least the man has a sense of humor. It's a lot better than Darth... er... Dick Cheney. My bad, how could I ever confuse the two? Anyways, Biden's not necessarily the best politician, but he makes a decent guy to give the bad news if you need it.

What gives with the VP and the frequent cursing????? Not pleasant to hear from one of our nation's" talking heads." Maybe he'd be more popular with his mouth SHUT.

Attacking Joe Biden because he sometimes makes inappropriate comments is about the dumbest thing imaginable. And criticizing him for being wrong about a few things is equally stupid. Some of you critiques need to come up with a past Senator or VP who batted 1.000. Then you can spew your crap here. Biden's a good man who has more foreign policy experience than any previous VP in US history. He is also liked and respected by members on both sides of the aisle.

other wrong predictions: new jersey, virginia, mass., obama is qualified, obama is not partisan, my hair plugs will luk real, etc. . . but biden is funny, at least he gives dimwits n slackers hope that they too can become vice president as long as the media pushes an obvious far left kook as a moderate and a moderate repub as extreme right wing. too bad katie couric, diane sawyer, and brian williams are losing mass amounts of viewers due to their biased reporting. it must kill libs that much like women can choose to snuff out their kids we can choose where to get our news.

Joe, Please don't go on Jay Leno again and make such a foolish comment as you did regarding the Russian Spy – it was unbecoming the Vice-president of the United States Of America. It was a comment we would expect in a bar somewhere, between two uneducated men.

this is so lame. headline on cnn.com says 'biden admits mistake', then you read the story and its about him joking about prediction lebron would stay in cleveland. clearly is a swipe at bush that had to face baked questions from an childish press corp with some ax to grind long stemming from the fact they didn't like gore losing 2000 election. asking a president if he made a mistake is lame..its a damned if you do and damned if you dont for bush since the press would crucify him for whichever answer he gave. so dumb, cnn.
