Biden jokes about wrong prediction

Joe Biden said Friday he doesn't have a good track record with making predictions.

Joe Biden said Friday he doesn't have a good track record with making predictions.

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden predicts that the Netherlands will win Sunday's World Cup championship game in South Africa, but admits his track record may not be that great.

"I think the Netherlands are going to win, but what the hell do I know? I thought LeBron was going to stay," Biden told Jay Leno Friday, in his first appearance on NBC's "The Tonight Show" since taking over as vice president a year and a half ago.

The vice president was pointing to a comment regarding NBA superstar LeBron James that he made a week ago in Ohio while campaigning for the Democrat's Senate nominee in that state. James announced Thursday the he was leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to play with the Miami Heat.

Leno joked about Biden's tendency to speak his mind and make public gaffes. Biden said he warned then fellow Democratic Sen. Barack Obama about that, before signing on as Obama's running mate in the 2008 presidential election.

"I told the president two things when he asked me to do the job. I said, 'Just two conditions, Mr. President. I'm not going to wear any funny hats, and I'm not changing my brand.' And I kept my promise," Biden told Leno.

The late night talk show host also questioned the vice president about Friday's spy swap with Russia, in which the U.S. sent ten accused spies back to Moscow for four in return. Leno asked if the U.S. got a raw deal.

"We got back four really good ones," Biden told Leno. "And the ten, they've been here a long time, but they hadn't done much."

Asked about the return of one of the ten, attractive alleged Russian spy Anna Chapman, Biden joked "let me be clear. It was not my idea to send her back."

Also Friday while in Los Angeles, the vice president headlined a fundraiser for Sen. Barbara Boxer of California for the second straight day. The event was held at the home of Tom Rothman, co-chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment, one of the largest movie studies in the country. According to a pool report, the event was expected to raise some $200,000 for Boxer. The three term Democratic senator faces a tough re-election bid this year against Republican nominee Carly Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard.

Biden closed his comments at the fundraiser by saying that "California is coming back, America is coming back and Barbara Boxer is coming back."

Remember when Bush was asked what the biggest mistake of his presidency was, and couldn't think of one? I'm positive that if Dubya blew a World Cup prediction he wouldn't admit an error, he would simply say he was operating under the best intelligence available at the time.

People criticizing Joe Biden (or making statements like "throw uncle Joe under the bus") only prove that they have their heads in the sand – the rest of us just sit back and shake our heads while you make silly statements out of ignorance.

So Biden has picked the Netherlands, and the Psychic Octopus has picked Spain. I predict that if Spain wins there will be a lot of bad jokes about who's smarter.

just goes to show that the VP and P are more interested in basketball than what is going on in this country.
    Um, ib . . .

The Netherlands is playing in the World Cup, which would be in soccer, not basketball.

To those of you in California who still have a job, if you like to keep it don’t vote for Carly Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard. First look at her record and see how she has eliminated jobs in order to boost her own income and the share holders stock. This is exactly how Republican plan is for the future of America. They have filled their own pocket by selling our jobs and our country to China & India and dogged taxes by claiming that their wealth will someday trickle down to the rest of us. I just wonder how their off shore bank account will benefit anyone in U.S.

I love this guy, very frank, very refreshing, very young for 66 or 67 years old. Sure hope he succeeds Obama as Prez and drives these disoriented right wingers nuts. Have you ever known anyone who always seems to smell a fart, or rather yet, has that look perpetually on his face? That's your right wingers. They were born that way.

If any of you guys went to college and took a Logic's courseyo can tell an easy inductive reasoning being used by th conservative nut jobs on here and elsewhere. Look at appeal t authority to being illegitament on Biden about Sports and take it with a grain of salt. Cheney used some colorful words on the floor before so what is yor point? come on this happens all o the time an he is just more open about it. Take Biden as a jester to chill things down a little from the often times too serious madnss of politics like religion you hardly ever win an argumet truly for long anyways. I mean you look at Bush at Iraq War initially everyone was in favor and Obama wasn't nor Bryd either. Who is dumb out of this pictue? The republicans werewrong then and they are trying to drive a wedge against the democratic party cause they know we are morefractualized when the Novemberelction happens cause of the current administration. The democratic party is very much likeAmerica cause we are divided all of the time till ourservice bonds us together like 9-11 or something.
Finally, whawould conservatives do as far as ideas? They have opened up idea campaigns cause they truly lack any ideas of their own. They have been bankrupt for years over initial ideas Look at Bush about the SocilSecurity retirement to convert it over to 401 k andook at the stoc market. Come on look at te social securit lock box and who spent it under Greenspan? Look again at the Patriot Act, redunction of ADA, fightng against accessible currency, 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, two wars and etc. We need a more viable third party and not the Tea Party eithe. I am talkin like a Green Party or nationalist party or something long those lines. It would dice up things that is for sure.

Why is this even a story? Are things slow in the news room today?
It seems more and more that stories you share are either of no importance in the grand scheme of things or that you just beat a story to death. ie. Lebron James, Palin, Tea Party, Political lies. Why don't you spend time reporting on the need for public elections and a " LIARS" tax on politicians. These stories might actually reduce the waste in government and the greed in banks, oil co's, insurance co's, etc.

Plus when Bush comes back they want Rush...whom ever Rush is?. to be secretary of human services....Get it Human ?...Now go vote ole Bush back in or some other joke like him and make government real small so we can win two wars and bring the USA out of the Greatest Recession started back in 2007.. with those clever people in charge...huh back in 2007....The Republicans want every one Maxed out again?

And it's hard to imagine, but Palin could have been even worse than Dick.

I don't understand the fuss. (1) his mistakes were on matters of no national importance, and (2) his predecessor VP made some really egregious mistakes during his eight years and the conservatives still think he was doing a great job.

Conservatives: Get a grip. Get a life!
