(CNN) – Saying that Washington is “doing an awful lot more talking than listening,” Republican Rep. Phil Gingrey is promoting a new GOP website that seeks ideas from Americans on how government can work better.
“Republicans have launched America Speaking Out, a new project that is revolutionizing the way we govern by engaging the American people and seeking their ideas for making things better,” said Gingrey in the weekly Republican radio and internet address.
“The hub of this unprecedented initiative is an innovative web forum – AmericaSpeakingOut.com – that allows you to submit your ideas for a new agenda, regardless of what party you’re affiliated with. Once you post an idea, it is then debated, discussed, and voted on. Republican lawmakers are also sharing their ideas and putting together new proposals based on your feedback,” he added.
The website, launched in May, immediately spurred a rebuttal site from Democrats that allows voters to vote on the worst Republican ideas.
Full transcript of the remarks after the jump:
“Hello, I’m Doctor Phil Gingrey, and I work for the people of Georgia’s 11th Congressional District.
“Americans are fed up with how things are going in the country right now. They see more job losses, rising debt, and plummeting home sales. They feel let down by a government that passes one 2,000-page, trillion-dollar law after another instead of focusing on addressing the problems Americans worry about every day.
“Republicans are listening and offering better solutions that get Washington out of your way, out of your pocket, and back on your side.
“Just look at jobs. President Obama and Democrats in Washington are still trying to convince Americans that their trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ is working. But our economy has lost more than three million private sector jobs since February 2009. During that same time period, the federal government has actually grown by more than 400,000 jobs. More government, fewer jobs – that’s not recovery, those aren’t results, they’re just more of the same broken promises. Republicans are offering specific proposals to cut spending now. We can provide the fiscal discipline economists say is needed to create private-sector jobs and boost our economy.
“Americans are calling for a return to common sense in how we solve problems – and how the people communicate with their government. Because even though the world is becoming more connected through the web, mobile apps, and social media, our government is growing more out of touch, doing an awful lot more talking than listening.
“That’s why Republicans have launched America Speaking Out, a new project that is revolutionizing the way we govern by engaging the American people and seeking their ideas for making things better.
“The hub of this unprecedented initiative is an innovative web forum – AmericaSpeakingOut.com – that allows you to submit your ideas for a new agenda, regardless of what party you’re affiliated with. Once you post an idea, it is then debated, discussed, and voted on. Republican lawmakers are also sharing their ideas and putting together new proposals based on your feedback.
“We’re also taking America Speaking Out to your communities by holding town hall meetings in rooms just like this to get a real, face-to-face dialogue going about what we need to do to turn things around. I hosted one such event earlier this week at a senior center in the town of Rome, Georgia, in my district. The conversation was spirited, the kind you’ve probably participated in yourself recently – with people asking why we are spending so much and getting so little in return, with folks pleading for the President to stop doubling down on policies that are hurting instead of helping.
“One father stood up and said ‘my family has to budget, so why isn’t Washington?’ A small business owner said he’s still struggling to figure out whether he’ll be able to continue providing health insurance for his nine employees after the government takeover of health care. But what got everyone nodding was a World War Two veteran who stood up and said ‘I don’t believe my children and grandchildren will enjoy the same freedoms and the same prosperity that I have enjoyed.’
“Americans are proud of this country, they want to see things get better, and they want to be part of that turnaround. That’s what America Speaking Out is all about.
“So I hope you will take this opportunity to visit AmericaSpeakingOut.com and contact your representative to find out about upcoming America Speaking Out town halls in your area.
“Thank you so much for listening.”
In other words, Republican leaders are saying "We don't have any solutions, so do you guys have any ideas?"
One problem is sending ideas to a political party whose idea of Christmas in July is a successful terrorist attack that kills thousands of Americans. The Republicans are not on anyone's side, including that of this country, except their own.
So, it's true. The Republican Party has no ideas. So, let's go to the most least informed people in the world and ask for ideas. They probably have good ideas, as long as they're Republican ideas.
What a joke this party has become. One can participate as long as they provide mother's maiden name, e-mail address, next of kin...
Stop the planet; I want to get off!
This web site is just a pretend GObP townhall meeting. Only this way they pretend to listen to the people, without the face to face meeting, or the shouting, screaming and in your face signs. The GObP listens to money from big business, Wall Street, big health care insurance, big oil – in fact anyone big (Chamber of Commerce). They don't care about middle americans, health care, finance reform, creating jobs, helping small businesses or getting the economy moving. Do you hear them? No the mainstream conservative GObP leadership doesn't have any ideas and the newly incorporated tea party faction of the GObP has the idea that the country should do away with the federal government and rely on state government. I guess we'll see if the GObP is listening to you. Marlene in Mich
MONUMENTAL TRUTH...YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!!
if the republicans get their greedy hands back in power we are doomed. can't america see what has happened under the bush/cheney era? america will go down in flames giving all we own to big government, creating wars just to show we are the power, the rich more tax cuts, they don't give a dam if we have jobs or not [they think all middle glass is lazy] and to hell with seniors getting social security that we have worked all our lives paying into the system. i am very worried for our country. the republicans will have death panels for all of us that are not in the top 2% rich white men bible thumping group.they don't give a dam about us having jobs, insurance, social security and definately not medicare.. i pray each night for our democrate president. please america , think before you vote this evil bunch back into the same offices that has brought us down, PLEASE!
When I first heard about "vote for the worst Republican ideas, I thought "That's impossible – they have no ideas except to say no." But then listening to Angle, Paul, et al, i realize they do: eliminate Medicare, Social Security, the Department of Education, repeal the civil rights act (forget about same-sex marriage!), "drill baby drill," and a number of other ideas. So thoroughly chastened, i voted for their worst idea: to run for elected office, any elected office.
Didn't Gov. Bobby Jingle just propose the same bait and switch gimmick in his state of the union rebuttal? The Republicans are flipping meaningless soundbytes that amount to nothing.
Government "Solutions" ? Sounds like an informercial pyramid marketing scheme. Solutions for the Republicans = lobotomy dumbing-down their base with Faux Propaganda Kool-Aid.
Republicans have good ideas?. Why of course they do.. They suggest small government to win two Wars and bring our country out of the Greatest Recession.... Real small.. tiny almost...Sound good?.When you get the smallness you want.. then you can stop yelling for help in disasters and all that stuff plus yelling for your farmers price supports of 30-40 thousand a year..farm sibsidies....How about it Republicans?
Monumental truth get a grip. Only losers like you and Republicans would think that destroying the country would be a good thing. What exactly would that do for President Obama? How would that keep him in power so he could do that socialist thing ? You people are stupid. Besides, in case you haven't noticed, it is Republicans/conservatives/right wing/tea party/Obama haters who are doing their level best to destroy the country in their attempt to destroy President Obama. Most of us are not blinded by the right and see this for what it is.
Some of our GOP legislators are dishonest about what Americans say they want. Why should we trust the site to make a difference.
BTW, saying Obama will destroy "America and the white race" is a way of showing your own colors.
Sure, they'll put up the front of soliciting ideas, and then run with the same failed policies that landed us in the disaster we're in today.
Huge deficits as the result of unfunded tax cuts for the rich. Tax cuts to the "job creators" – a measly 3 million jobs were created over 8 years, and added $3.9 trillion over the next 10 years to the deficit – pretty expensive jobs you created there Mr. Bush. How about the unfunded wars that also piled onto the deficit. Not to mention the medicare drug boondoggle that cost us trillions. That's fiscal conservatism, republican style.
How about their notion of limited government – the results, the massey mine disaster, the oil volcano in the gulf, the wall street fiasco and the banking and mortgage disasters. This is the results of the "better solutions" the republicans have to offer.
We did it their way, and it was an unmitigated disaster, and they've stood on the sidelines hoping the problems continue so they can score cheap political points.
Nope, I'll go with the party trying to get us out of the mess, not the one that wants to dig us in deeper.
Clueless wingnuts. They depend on their sheep with no knowledge as they actually believe Fox Snooze. This website would be the same puppets I read here spewing the lies over and over again. Drones that are the minority. The beauty of wingnuts is that they NEVER see the landslide coming.
If lack of listening is the issue, shouldn't the website be "Republicans are Listening", rather than "America Speaking Out"?
All the GOPers have been doing is shouting since before President Obama was inaugurated. Mostly they've been shouting "No, no, no" (or "Hell, no" from Boehner), but they haven't been paying attention to anything that's actually going on. Instead have been shouting all of their made-up fear-mongering from day one.
Your banner on that video says "Republicans offer better solutions". That's ridiculous. You aren't Fox News.
The only language Repugnicans listen to is the language of fear and of money. That is their only reason for existence since the radical right was allowed to take control of the party. And money is their religion since it is the stuff of re-election. They are the most pathetic creatures in our social universe. None will fit through the eye of a needle!!
BTW – Monumental Truth! – What sort of cognitive laxative have you been using? Does it say "brainwashed repugnican" on the label??
LOL Republican offer better idea :)))))))) . THe party of NO, party of fear monger, party hypocrite, party of lies, party of idiot palin limbaugh steel, party of teabagger, party of closet gay, party of oil company, party of big corporation, party of tax cur for the rich, and party of bunch of jerk off etc................. Republican great idea is the same idea they got american in this mess. Republican SUCK !!
From the comments, everybody is happy that elected officials do not need citizen input. Everybody is happy that the great one knows what is best for everyone. Everyone concedes that democrat leaders are smarter than yourself so you dont have to think for yourselves.
Go ahead and sneer at the republicans. Sounds like you are having a good time doing that. Never mind that many have gone through medical schools, law schools, owned businesses. It does not matter if you dont measure up to those you sneer as long as you hide under the great dem society.
:Republicans offer better solutions" We've been hearing this for two years now and I'm still waiting to hear even one of them. If it isn't"NO" ,it's no solution at all! They are either lying or saying "No". They have made NO effort to help with the problems that their party got us into and are right now stalling on important issues that desperatly need immediate attention. The president is working as hard as he can to improve a half dozen major problems all at once and yet the uneducated amongst us continue to complain. How much can one party do to keep things moving and improve on this mess. I think the Repubs are underestimating the anger of the people and will be in for a surprise shortly. As to the nay sayers.....just hold your breath.YOU will be the losers.
Republicans listening to Americans?? That would be a first!!
It's too bad that the Republicans and those running this Fall can't have any ideas of their own! It's nice they want to listen to the people but one would think they should have their own ideas on how to govern.
To Momumental Truth – "Obama's agenda is to destroy America and the white race" – WHAT PLANET ARE YOU LIVING ON, REALLY??? How is the President going to destroy America and the white race. Please tell us what you know!!!!!!!
As long as this website doesn't come up with responses to. . . the economy, immigration, health care, military spending, or anything else the Party of NO is opposing at the moment, all will be fine.
Should the GOP truly come up with alternatives, it means they haven't been doing their jobs and should be voted out of their offices!
Continuing to be obstructionists, fear mongerers and simply not participating, BUT having a neat website. . .
Hey GOP and Dems, here is an idea of how government can work better, let other parties enter the arena! Ron Paul for President of the United States of America in 2012.
Better solutions! what alternate universe do these people live in? i haven't heard a good solution to anything from a republican since Eisenhower was president! Their solution to everything is prop up the corporations and screw the little guy. We've suffered thru 8 years of their solutions that almost ruined this great country. We can't survive any more of their 'solutions.'
Notice how Gingrey mentions how many jobs were lost as of Feb. 09? How about how many millions of jobs were lost before Obama took office – you know back when Bush was still running things. Republicans keep acting like everything was just fine before Feb. 09, and then Obama took office, and the economy, the job market, and everything else all of a sudden went to hell.
