Gingrey promotes ideas website

(CNN) – Saying that Washington is “doing an awful lot more talking than listening,” Republican Rep. Phil Gingrey is promoting a new GOP website that seeks ideas from Americans on how government can work better.

“Republicans have launched America Speaking Out, a new project that is revolutionizing the way we govern by engaging the American people and seeking their ideas for making things better,” said Gingrey in the weekly Republican radio and internet address.

“The hub of this unprecedented initiative is an innovative web forum – AmericaSpeakingOut.com – that allows you to submit your ideas for a new agenda, regardless of what party you’re affiliated with. Once you post an idea, it is then debated, discussed, and voted on. Republican lawmakers are also sharing their ideas and putting together new proposals based on your feedback,” he added.

The website, launched in May, immediately spurred a rebuttal site from Democrats that allows voters to vote on the worst Republican ideas.

Full transcript of the remarks after the jump:

“Hello, I’m Doctor Phil Gingrey, and I work for the people of Georgia’s 11th Congressional District.
“Americans are fed up with how things are going in the country right now. They see more job losses, rising debt, and plummeting home sales. They feel let down by a government that passes one 2,000-page, trillion-dollar law after another instead of focusing on addressing the problems Americans worry about every day.
“Republicans are listening and offering better solutions that get Washington out of your way, out of your pocket, and back on your side.
“Just look at jobs. President Obama and Democrats in Washington are still trying to convince Americans that their trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ is working. But our economy has lost more than three million private sector jobs since February 2009. During that same time period, the federal government has actually grown by more than 400,000 jobs. More government, fewer jobs – that’s not recovery, those aren’t results, they’re just more of the same broken promises. Republicans are offering specific proposals to cut spending now. We can provide the fiscal discipline economists say is needed to create private-sector jobs and boost our economy.
“Americans are calling for a return to common sense in how we solve problems – and how the people communicate with their government. Because even though the world is becoming more connected through the web, mobile apps, and social media, our government is growing more out of touch, doing an awful lot more talking than listening.
“That’s why Republicans have launched America Speaking Out, a new project that is revolutionizing the way we govern by engaging the American people and seeking their ideas for making things better.

“The hub of this unprecedented initiative is an innovative web forum – AmericaSpeakingOut.com – that allows you to submit your ideas for a new agenda, regardless of what party you’re affiliated with. Once you post an idea, it is then debated, discussed, and voted on. Republican lawmakers are also sharing their ideas and putting together new proposals based on your feedback.

“We’re also taking America Speaking Out to your communities by holding town hall meetings in rooms just like this to get a real, face-to-face dialogue going about what we need to do to turn things around. I hosted one such event earlier this week at a senior center in the town of Rome, Georgia, in my district. The conversation was spirited, the kind you’ve probably participated in yourself recently – with people asking why we are spending so much and getting so little in return, with folks pleading for the President to stop doubling down on policies that are hurting instead of helping.

“One father stood up and said ‘my family has to budget, so why isn’t Washington?’ A small business owner said he’s still struggling to figure out whether he’ll be able to continue providing health insurance for his nine employees after the government takeover of health care. But what got everyone nodding was a World War Two veteran who stood up and said ‘I don’t believe my children and grandchildren will enjoy the same freedoms and the same prosperity that I have enjoyed.’

“Americans are proud of this country, they want to see things get better, and they want to be part of that turnaround. That’s what America Speaking Out is all about.

“So I hope you will take this opportunity to visit AmericaSpeakingOut.com and contact your representative to find out about upcoming America Speaking Out town halls in your area.

“Thank you so much for listening.”

Don't vote for anything OBAMA proposes. He has an agenda. That is to destroy America and the white race.

Well lets start by respecting the duly elected President of the United States of America. Then Republicans can then begin to work WITH the President rather than trying to destroy him. Republicans can also reign in their right wing entertainers who are doing everything they can to divide the country.

If Republicans can show the American people that they care about the average American rather than big business and big oil and themselves and power, and show that they will work rather than just saying NO and then whining about everything they wouldn't have to pretend that they really want to know what Americans want. This is just another game that they are putting forth. Americans want jobs, they want an end to the wars. They want an end to the divisiveness permeating Washington DC. Most of us want and end to Republican attempts to destroy President Obama and help him to do his job. The American want for both parties to do what is right for the American people rather than what their campaign donors want. It is not that difficult

..."he’s still struggling to figure out whether he’ll be able to continue providing health insurance for his nine employees after the government takeover of health care..." The Government is NOT taking over health care!

As long as people keep repeating mis-information, there will be little progress: We must be true to the words of Jefferson: "Educate and inform the whole mass of the people. ... They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

By the way, I haven't heard anything from republicans but "repeal the health care bill, lower taxes, cut spending (never where)" Didn't we try all that 2000-2008?

Gingrey: "that allows you to submit your ideas for a new agenda, regardless of what party you’re affiliated with."

Mind you, we won't actually *listen* to them unless they are what we and our corporate bosses (and baby Jeebus!) already want to believe.

So the Republicans just will cherry pick from the website the suggestions that already perfectly fit their ideology – such tax cuts for the rich, more deregulation. Then, since the idea was posted on a public website, the GOP will proclaim that is what America wants and so to disagree with the Repbulicans is to go against the will of the people.

The GOP will flourish if they "listen" and ACT on behalf of the American People. Obama's regime is driven by leftist ideology that the vast majority of Americans oppose.

I knew it !! The elected repubs have no ideas. Send them home.

If citizens have better ideas, maybe those CITIZENS need to be getting the salary and perks - on vacation AGAIN?? Just how many vacations do they need in order to line up behind McTurtle-face and yell no????

Vote the obstructionists OUT in NOvember. Just say NO to the lazy repubs.

The republicans offer the same politics as usual that almost destroyed our country.
Their undying support for Wall St over the welfare of us and our country is never ending. The have and will continue to sell us down the river to enforce no regulations, unlimited perks, and no oversight for big business.
They are a disgrace to our political system and our country.

Sometimes doing the unpopular thuing is correct. Sometimes it is not. This reminds me of someone in grade scholl doing what ever peer pressure dictates. As we all know that does not always have a good outcome. Oh ya there's a lot of parents out there without skils who probably cant handle that either!

This man doesn't know what he is talking about. Thankfully, we have a stimulus, and it should have been the size that the congressman mention, but was not and we need another one and bigger. We are watch the economy slowly coming back, but it needs more and Republicans are doing everything they can to ensure that it will not. We have a great President and he is working very hard for this wonderful country and when the economy is assured, he will address the deficit, like President Clinton did.

You would not need a website if you had listened in the first place. Election results told you what most Americans wanted. Reform, not childish bickering and no useless posturing. Your party has stalled all appointments to the most important executive areas and have played the wait til 2010 elections game. We if Americans are truly listening, ALL BUMS from BOTH parties will be on the streets this November.

Another big mouth GOP blowhard . Lets ask and see how many No votes he made by following the Footsteps of the ORANGE SUN TANNER. Gingrey is another spelling for GINGRICH, one that you cannot trust in any matter that might help the less fortunate. Give him a bill for big buisness or the Bankers and he will hand deliver it. Any GOP politician can be trusted as long as he is facing you, when they turn around forget what they said. Georgia history will show the worst politicians in the country.A good example of the integrity of BIBLE BELT Politicos.

The beauty of having a conservative website is that then they can always edit what they have to say, change their positions, or blame it on typos. This is what happens when they actually have no real positions, or too afraid to take the mic and state what they stand for on the record.

This website could be helpful if it's postings are mostly from the right-wing facist Republicans who drove this country into the ground under Bush/Cheney. The GOP hasn't acted on behalf of the American people for at least 30 years. Unless, like the SC acitivist judges, you consider corporations to be people (more like the tail wagging the GOP dog), and anti-worker decisions. Besides the Medicare drug program, what good has the GOP done for YOU lately? And stop whining about taxes - if you're being taxed too high, then you're living in the wrong state.
