Little 'appetite' for new stimulus, Obama adviser says

Washington (CNN) - The Obama administration wants to boost the staggering U.S. economy by boosting exports and offering small-business tax credits, but the prospects for additional stimulus spending are weak, the president's top political adviser conceded Sunday.

"Everybody agrees we have to do more," David Axelrod told CNN's "State of the Union." He said the administration has boosted the economy with its first stimulus package, which it pushed through Congress shortly after taking office in 2009, and Obama has pledged to double U.S. exports in five years, but, "We
have to accelerate that."

But with members of Congress expressing increasing concern about the budget deficit, which already tops $1 trillion for a budget year that ends in September, Axelrod admitted there's "not a great desire" for additional government spending.

"There is no doubt that the Republican strategy has basically been to say 'no' to everything and to try and turn the clock back in order to win an election and restore the policies that got us into this mess in the first place," he said.

This is a sad little man in denial that even after he got everything on his wish list against strong opposition...nothing he could do has worked. His approach is proven wrong. Massive government spending does not revive an economy. Private business investment and success does.

Obama's only answer for the economy is to extend unemployment benefits in perpetuity. That is admitting defeat for his policies.

Since the GObP members of the House and Senate do nothing for the country - cut their salaries and benefits - stop their trips home every week – and give the money to the unemployed in their states.

    Same for DINO Ben Nelson.

What a bunch of idiots – letting one man from Kentucky rule the entire party of NO. Idiots.

Simple stimilus package. Give every citizen $500 in food stamps. If they need em usem if they don'tgive em to your neighbor or a local food pantry or church. Evenually they wiil be used to purchase food.

This would help: The hungry, the food store owner, the trucker, the farmer, the tractor sales people, the mecahnics, the farm laborers. Pretty much everyone depends on farmers and this would provide a break all the way up the food chain.

Prepare for the largest tax increase in US history on 1/1/2011. If you are in the 10% tax bracket, your taxes will go up 50%. Thanks Mr. President!

I suggest that a nation with a stated unemployment rate near 10% after nearly 18 months in office is nothing to brag about.I think a summer recovery tour is ridiculous.Axelrod is just blowing smoke.Spin it any way you want the economy is in bad shape !!!

We were promised that UNEMPLOYMENT wouldn't go over 8% if we passed the corrupt stimulous bill without reading it. We did then we found out that it was stuffed with corruption like the AIG bonus guarantees. We were promised shovel ready projects to create jobs and there were none. The trillion dollars went into the pockets of the Democratic special interests, mostly the unions. Then instead of concentrating on the economy and UNEMPLOYMENT, Obama and the Democrats wasted over a year pusing the equally corrupt healthcare bill down our throats. Every day we find out a new lie they told to try and get the monstrosity passed. They've lied and lied and lied.....we need massive political change in Nov our our nation may never recover!

Has anyone ever done any research as to the affect of these tax credits on small business?
If a company needs employees, a tax credit isn't the reason they will hire. If business is bad, they pay lower taxes anyway and have no reason to hire.
When was the last time a boss hired because he thought it was a nice thing to do.
This is bogus. Obama is bending to the Republicans on this "give to the gots"'

Boosted the economy? What planet is Axelrod living on? One of his comments are true, America has no appetite for more of Liberal-Democrat spending!!! However, watch Obozo and his crew in the coming days. The sorry fact is that they don't care one iota what The People want. It's all about their liberal ideology and NOTHING else!

Enough with the stimulus already. Creating federal jobs does not no good for the general population. All it does is give the politicians jobs to give out as favors to their croonies and relatives. These jobs are inaccessible to 99.999999% of the population. In addition, anyone who gets these jobs will likely become fat, lazy, and incompetent...aka a government employee.
