(CNN) – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is coming under attack from Republicans for a fundraising stop Sunday night in Canada.

Reid, who faces a tough re-election fight this year as he bids for a fifth term in the Senate, attended a fundraiser hosted by the "Committee for a Better Future," a trial lawyers association based in Washington, D.C. that's raising money on behalf of Democrats in this year's Senate battles.

"Could Harry Reid be anymore out of touch to think that leaving the United States to raise campaign cash is appropriate while Nevada tops the nation with 14 percent unemployment? What was Harry Reid thinking and, more importantly, where exactly are his priorities?" asked National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesman Brian Walsh, in a release put out Monday morning by the NRSC.

The campaign of Reid's Republican challenger, Sharron Angle, followed with their own statement a few hours later.

"Harry Reid says that 'no one can do more' for Nevada, so why does he have to leave the country to pad his war chest? It seems callous," says Angle campaign spokesman Jerry Stacy, in the statement.

Angle beat 12 other candidates in the June 8 GOP primary to capture her party's Senate nomination. Angle, a former Nevada state lawmaker, enjoys strong support from many in the Tea Party movement.

"Let's talk about who's really out-of-touch. Sharron Angle wants to kill Social Security, calls unemployed Nevadans 'spoiled', and says it's not her job to create jobs. And now she claims that executive orders like the Emancipation Proclamation and military desegregation are unconstitutional. That's not just out-of-touch, that's in outer space," responds the Reid campaign, in a statement to CNN. "Senator Reid will never back down from fighting to put Nevadans back to work and bring new business to our state, ending the Bush era blacklist on government travel to Las Vegas and passing the Travel Promotion Act, legislation that will create 6,000 Nevada jobs by marketing Nevada and the nation to the world."

According to a Democratic source, eight Democratic Senate candidates also attended the fundraiser, which was held in Vancouver, British Columbia. One of the eight, Rep. Charlie Melancon of Louisiana, became the target of an NRSC email release Monday afternoon.

And of course every "dollar" raised was from an American...or did the Canadians simply give their money to an American who passed it on. Why does he have to go out of country?

Got'a love politicians that will let other countries rule how America is governed. Well, this makes sense given that Obama thinks he is the president of the world.

It is becoming increasing clear that the republican party is inacapable of being constructive...

The GOP...republican first, American second. For shame.

I keep saying it, Reid is old school, old, out of touch with the people. How can Reid fight to bring jobs back and bring new businesses to Nevada????? if he doesn't understand that everything has changed in our country, the world, thanks to technology advancements and many are unemployed due to the lack of computer/technology skills and can not accomodate to the standards of today's job requirements.
It's the blind leading the blind.

    Did BO out spend McCain?
    These liberals are such hipocrits.
Next they'll pass a new law that the majority oppose that makes it illegal for their opponents to spend More than they do.
Then they'll overturn that law when they have more money then their opponents

Any politician receiving funds from or asking for funds
from any foreign sources should be flogged, jailed,
and put on bread and water for 90 days.
Doesn't matter if they are Republican, Democrat,
    Independent , or Tea Party.
Doesn't matter if Bush did it or Clinton or who ever.
And they should have their i-pods taken away permanently !!!

Why doesn't the do nothing GObP just shut their stupid traps? They have no ideas, no solutions, no nothing – just a bunch of ignorant whiners. And No, the GObP will not take back the senate nor congress. They only thing they will do if in power is take America backward.

Can't wait until November 2010 and 2012. Go Obama and the Democrats!

    How do you spell T E R M L I M I T S America?

I am sick and tired of this revolving door or special interests, campaing financing, pork spending, and lobbyists managing this country. It is time we threw a whole bunch of people out of office – beginning with Reid and the other 7 dems who are raising money out of country

Anyone that votes for this guy is a fool. Reid is such a crook and destroying this country, his own son won't use his own last name of Reid.

Vote these destroyers of America OUT!

Senators need to be appointed by the state governments like they used to. That would cut down on the corruption of national Senate campaigns and senators would start looking out for their states more.

Reid needs to be voted out. He's a complete disaster.

oh, and then his campaign tosses out a bunch of lies and misquotes. Luckily, I think that only the mindless Obama-bots will believe Reid's lies at this point.

Interesting strategy by Senate Majority Leader Reid. He has so disenchanted the majority of Americans through his back-room dealing, overspending and underperforming Senate this term that his best opportunity is to raise campaign funds in foreign countries. I'm sure he could make some valuable immigration deals in Mexico City, too! The word is out...Harry is dealing!

I cannot understand how anyone with an iota of common sense could support Mr. Reid. Just ask yourself one question: How has the U.S. fared under Mr. Reids leadership in the Senate?? Case Closed!!

Harry Reid or Sharron Angle. Hmmm. Harry is...well, Harry. However, Angle seems to be the world's first living brain donor when she opens her mouth. Not good for a politician. She's my choice, though. I am not a supporter, but Reid has done nothing for Nevada or the country and, if you watch him with Obama and Pelosi, he will get ring around the collar if they stop fast.

Wonderful choices in this country, huh?
