RNC website asks 'Play Golf or Save the Gulf?'

Washington (CNN) - Play golf or save the gulf?

That's the question asked on a new website launched Monday by the Republican National Committee. It lists 13 "leisure activities or missteps" made by President Obama since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded on April 20, and visitors can list their top five and share them on Twitter and Facebook.

"President Obama's frustrating tendency to hit the links rather than devote his undivided attention to providing a solution to the worst ecological disaster in American history represents an unacceptable lack of seriousness and focus," RNC Chairman Michael Steele said in a statement provided to CNN. "While communities along the Gulf Coast are reeling from the devastating economic and environmental impact of the ongoing spill, it is beyond offensive that this president would even think of scheduling a tee time."

Updated at 2:00 p.m. ET with statement from Democratic National Committee Press Secretary Hari Sevugan
:

“It’s nice to know that Michael Steele can take time out of his busy schedule of fending off calls for his resignation to play politics with the oil spill," Sevugan said. "And it’s too bad he’d rather play political games than support the Administration’s efforts to hold BP accountable and a pass energy security bill that ensures we are never in a position where we are reliant on big oil companies like BP again. Of course, if we could harness even a fraction of the energy Republicans put into these silly websites we wouldn’t need a new energy bill.”

The RNC needs to obey labor laws and stop hiring youngsters.

    This is juvenile.

This is about the stupidest thing I have seen! Is this all the GOP has to do?? I never thought they could be this ridiculous..................I would be so ashamed of this stupid website that I would never tell someone I was part of the GOP.

And how long was GWB on vacation when he was in office? Guess the Republicans forgot about those numbers?

So the guy plays golf occasionally. The last guy took far more vacations than any sitting president since. At least the current president is not hiding in Texas!

The nation would be in much better shape if the GOP were not so un-American and unpatriotic. Their purpose today is to destroy our great nation if they cannot have their way. And to think I used to vote Republican.

Um.... How many vacations did Bush take during the war when he was in office? Just saying people. Personally I don't think that Obama should have so much leisure time, but the larger problem is that is that the Republicans want to continue to play petty political games instead of cooperating to elp solve this crisis! There are more important things in this world than continuing to act like holier than thou crybabies! You guys need to start acting like adults and stop playing games that in the greater scheme of things does not matter anyway!

How petty can they get? A golf game, come on. How many vacations did Bush take? I'm tired of this immature squabbling.

Actually – President Obama was already "saving the Gulf" when he was "playing golf" – the RepubliCAN'Ts were too busy saying NO to NOTICE!!!

What was the RepubliCAN'Ts playing for the entire eight years while BUSH was in office?????

They WERE NOT playing Immigration – They WERE NOT playing Financial Reform – They WERE NOT playing Healthcare – BUT what they were playing was WAR and not thinking about the soldiers lost and the deficit growing!!!

Just a poor attempt by the RNC to spring back from all of their chaos. Everyone needs a little time away, the President is entitled also. My God, look at how many vacations Bush took, more than any Pres. in history. Steele is just trying to attack because he's been attacked. It's sad, Steele is a smart man but he's being played like a fiddle by those in the Repugnant Party; I'm sorry he's in this position and can't do and say what he believes for fear that he will be ousted – unfortunately that is his destiny I believe. Man up Steele, why play their game – be your own man and contribute in the best most honest way you can, not how others want you to. As for President Obama, best wishes on your golf game, I like a President who is calm and thinks, and is realistic in how to handle things. At least you're not on a permanent vacation.

Interesting the RNC would call out President Obama's work schedule since former president Bush took more vacations and worked less than any other president in American History.

More interesting is that RNC's chair, Michael Steele called this out. Isn't this the same Michael Steele that referred to the Afgan war as "unwinnable" and "Obama's war" two weeks ago.

Next time the media needs a quote they should speak with Donald Duck as it would likely be more relavent and and historically accurate than anything that comes out of Mr. Steele's mouth.

These GOP hypocrites can eat you-know-what and die. The audacity of these crooks to play politics with the oil spill after being a wholly owned subsidiary of the oil industry for decades is amazing.

The Republicans are horrible! Why is it that a human being cannot have time to spend on life. A man cannot live if he is working 100% of time. So what if he wants to hit a round of golf he is a human and deserves some leisure time...We didn't see the Democrats creating websites when Bush was spending half of his time in office on vacations or a shooting game when you can be Dick and shoot people in the face! Get over it and move forward!

I think it is kinda funny that the RNC complains about a couple of hours of golf in the D.C. area when their guy spent nearly half of his presidency (including time after 9/11 and Katrina) on his ranch in Texas clearing brush and fishing. In fact I would argue that Pres. Obama is being more responsible since he is much closer to the White House than Pres. Bush was when he was in Texas.

The fact of the matter is this: The President is never truly on vacation. Someone is alway nearby with a phone and all the pertinent information and it doesn't matter if he is on his ranch in Texas, a golf course in D.C. or the White House.

it's not so much that he plays golf...there is really not a lot he can do about the gulf...it is that he is so ignorant and oblivious to the appearance of this.....you would think he would have enough sense to stay home and at least look like he is doing something....maybe it is arrogance...or maybe he is just not very bright

Since when does a lame Obama-bashing ad from the Republican National Committee constitute "news?" You guys must be aware that by replaying this crap you are simply acting as a megaphone for the RNC. Come to think of it, much of what you feature on your website as "news" is just a bunch of crap of the "man bites dog" variety.

When will the GOP DEMAND his resignation? He has the nerve to complain about this – where was he when W was taking vacation after vacation after vacation?
Michael Steele, just SHUT UP and go away! No wonder the GOP has problems!

As an Independent voter these are the types of things that will keep me from voting for the Republican. George W. Bush had a record number of vacation days as president yet the Republicans are going after Obama for a little R&R. I'm all for having those in public office with minimal vacation because they are public servents after all. But I also know that everyone deserves a little down time to refresh themselves. Without that you get burnt out, no matter what your occupation.

I suppose the rightards would rather Obama be out clearing brush. When you think of it, all this rightard focus on Obama's golf game is actually proves that they have no ideas or solutions and can only throw mud.

Micheal Steele is a stupid man the only reason the republican appointed him as chirman was to try to get the African American vote during the 2008 election. He is just like Sarah Palin just say shit because thats what people want to hear, he dont even care if he is wrong.
