Washington (CNN) – Three leading House Republicans will release a new book entitled "Young Guns" in September, publisher Simon & Schuster announced Monday.
The book is jointly written by House Minority Whip Eric Cantor, R-Virginia; Republican Chief Deputy Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-California; and Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, according to Brad Dayspring, who is acting as part-time publicist and spokesman for all three lawmakers as they release their new book.
In a phone interview with CNN, Dayspring described "Young Guns" as "a complimentary effort to many that are already under way to promote conservative candidates, layout a conservative Republican agenda and describe a positive narrative for the 2010 election."
The term "young guns" was used in the fall of 2007 by the Weekly Standard's Fred Barnes to describe Cantor and other up-and-coming House Republicans under the age of 45. The term was subsequently used as the title of a program founded by Cantor, McCarthy, and Ryan during the 2007-2008 election cycle to help identify conservative leaders. Rep. Pete Sessions, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, adopted the "Young Guns" program and it is now a formal NRCC program to recruit candidates and provide training to House Republicans, according to information available on the NRCC website.
The book "Young Guns" will be released in mid-September, according to Simon & Schuster. Cantor, McCarthy, and Ryan each author three chapters in the book, Dayspring said. The book looks back, addresses the last 18 months under the Obama administration and a Democratically-controlled Congress, and then describes a way forward in terms of candidates and policy prescriptions, Dayspring also told CNN.
I don't think any Dems will read it. You have to pay for it first... which is something they don't like. If it's a gov handout paid for by someone else... they might read it... but only if it comes with an incentive check...
Sp which strip club are they using for the book signings?
It's hilarious that these suits– businessmen with about as much experience with the great outdoors as Eva Gabor– choose to call themselves "Young Guns," as if they're rough, tough gun-slingers.
And it's just as funny when Repubs fall for it.
These are not "Young Guns." These are corporate hacks who want to make sure that oil companies (like BP), coal companies (like Massey) and Wall St. brokers (like Goldman & Sachs) are free to continue business as usual, as long as they keep those corporate donations flowing.
Wow, more like young morons.
Oh give me a break! You have GOT to be kidding . . . .these idiots are delusional!
I would like to say that this book is myopic and short of realistically addressing the nation’s problem.
From this statement, "The book looks back, addresses the last 18 months under the Obama administration and a Democratically-controlled Congress, and then describes a way forward in terms of candidates and policy prescriptions," any reasonable American can see that this is a partisan and attention seeking "trios" who instead of addressing the real issues has decided to short-circuit and deceive people from seeing and knowing where the origin of our nations problem came from.
Republicans are just angry and can't get over it. To solve our nation's problem, these folks have to give up partisan bickering and work together with Democrats and the present Whitehouse to solve our problems so that we all can have food on our tables.
They should not only look back in the last 18 months, they should also look back in the 96 months preceding the last 18 months.
"Conservative Republican agenda?" Seriously? Tax cuts for the rich, deregulation. Been there, done that, and got "trickled" on. No thanks. Apparently mooching off the taxpayers for doing nothing doesn't pay enough to accomodate their lifestyles. They want more of our money.
"Young Punks" sounds more appropriate.
As a Vriginian I am very aware of what Cantor and his party of social and religious finatics (McDonnell, Cucinelli, Fimian, Ford, Boiling, Robertson, Falwell, etc.) are trying to do to our state, and our country. The first generation of Virginia statesmen; Washington, Monroe, Jefferson, etc. would be tar and feathering these hypocrites for betraying the Constitution and Bill of Rights, as well as their fellow citizens.
I see the supporters of our current administration are still unable to spell. Your leader has shown his true colors when he failed to uphold the laws of t is land and hold certain members of the Black Panthers accountable. That will always be remembered. It will also come back to haunt him when the tables are reversed.
The true American also see that BP are the only ones doing anything about the oil spill. Closing the oil fields is a bad idea with this economic disaster still growing. Dumboma has the worst advisers in the history of politics. all hail the clown. Now send in some real leaders. Send this bunch to an island so they tip it over.
The 224-page book will say that Republicans have “lost sight of American ideals” and, according to a preview, will outline a “new direction for the Republican party.”
So let me get this straight, Republicans have lost sight of American ideals(according to Republicans) and we want to vote Republicans back in come November?
Wow, just wow!
I will read it...........................oboma is trying to destroy our country. And all his cronies are working with him. BUT KEEP in mind.......most of the changes they want will not effect them at all...................
Too bad so many of their supporters are illiterate, they should really go with an audio-book. Why do you think Rush is so popular with that crowd. Good porn title though.
LOL!!!! ROTFLMBO!!!!!!! Surely you jest! Cantor and his cronies are the LAST people that I want to be reading about. I'm sure these three imagine that young tweens will be squealing at the sight of them and begging for autographs....I guess they figured if bobblehead Palin can make money doing it, so can they!
Also, I second what Steph said, "I'll be too busy reading Sonya Sotomayor's memoirs".
Wait 'til crates of unsold copies show up for discount sale at Costco, then buy a bunch of these wastes of good paper and take them out to the rifle range and shoot holes in them, that's about the best thing they're good for.
Be sure to recylce them when you are finished
Oh this will a great work of fiction – if Republicans had any policies, solutions or a single idea – why have they not spoken up before this fall???
This book will be for a good laugh. The Republican Party will be the only purchasers of the bool (just like the Palin book) to try to make it look popular. This book will join its place with Palin's book as doorstops at the RNC.
Republicans have NO platform. no policies, and no solutions. As Michael Steele stated last week – "All Republicans care about is winning"- AND voting NO on everything to hurt America and root for failure.
Republicans have NOTHING to offer. BTW- Did Rush approve this book first???
These guys are what is wrong with Washington. They oppose everything, and propose nothing.
Their constituents elected them to solve the nation's problems, but I guess the book deal was more appealing.
America to Young Guns: "Forget the headlines and get to work... for a change!"
And they have the gall to call it "Young Guns"? I can see the Cease And Desist orders now! It seems the terrorist GOP thinks it can pilfer anything they please, just like they tried with campaign songs in 2008.
Besides, can't they come up with an ORIGINAL name? Opps, sorry...my bad...I forgot we're talking about Republicans here.
Creepy Eric Cantor should really concentrate on looking for a suit that fits him.
Isn't there already a movie by this name? I guess originality is not one of their strong points.
Young Guns, that's funny as if they have new ideas or something! Lmao!!!
Deja Vu. Contract on America Part 2. We saw what part I did. Nearly bankrupted us.
Interesting that these GOP wannabe's resorted to using "Guns" in their title. So they are good at titles like the rest of the GOP, but do they have any ideas, even one? I think not.
Vote NO in NOvember to the party of NO.
Oh, so now we're electing authors to "work" in Congress. Our country is on it's knees right now, Wall Street banks STOLE our money in the form of a taxpayer funded bailout (a farewell present from Bush) and have done NOTHING but hoard it for themselves to insure that they stay nice and wealthy while main street crumbles, the job market is a joke (unless you're willing to flip burgers for minimum wage even though you're an out of work Nuclear Scientist, at least the GOP thinks you're a loser if you pass it up anyway they've made that clear) So Cantor and his other two useless, do-nothing buddies seem to have all the time in the world to write a book??? Just to convince as many halfwit inbreds that they're somehow credible now, even though the ENTIRE Republican party and the Entire Bush White House are solely responsible for where we presently are now?? WHAT A JOKE!!! BRING ON NOVEMBER!!!!!! YOU GUY'S ARE OUT THE DOOR!!!!!
A more apt title would be Middle-Aged Idiots.
