(CNN) - Sarah and Todd Palin released this statement Wednesday following the news that their daughter Bristol is now engaged to her on-again, off-again boyfriend Levi Johnston:
"Bristol, at 19, is now a young adult. As parents we obviously want what is best for our children, but Bristol is ultimately in charge of determining what is best for her and her beautiful son.Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.
We pray that, as a couple, Bristol and Levi's relationship matures into one that will allow Tripp to grow up graced with two loving parents in his life."

Well, I think Sarah and Todd had this coming. They shouldn't try to control Bristol. Let her think for herself. She probably never has in her entire life, and she's making a decision for the first time. It's her's and she has a right to it. So leave her be. Stop trying to tell your children what to do. THAT'S NOT AMERICAN SARAH. You should know better.
What she really meant to say is "i hate that little piece of poop,it won't last,i blame obama!!"
Levi knows what side of the bread the butter is on. His attorney says the boy is part of the "Team Levi" and theres' money to be made on the speaking circuit.(lil bristol boobs will make a bundle furthering the cause of out of wedlock child conceiving, bearing, and delivering, leave the parenting out of it) Also Sarah KNOWS her disfunctional family will cost her votes someday, so she's trying desperatly to fix things to APPEAR non-dysfunctional. They are the typical politcal based family.

I hope and pray that both Sarah and Todd find a way to talk to their daughter. Although she may be a young adult, she will always be their daughter, and the media is definitely not a way to resolve things between family.

Wow no "we are so happy", or "we fully support". It reads like "Bristol you're 19, if you screw up don't blame me."
Sounds like they are thrilled. Basically, Sarah said, because we know Todd doesn't, that Bristol made her bed, now she can sleep in it.
So how much is Levi getting paid?

Way to step up Mom, we cant choose our childrens partners but the high road will keep you closer to your daughter, grandson, and hopefully someday to your new son-in-law. She will respect you more if and when things dont work out.
Sounds like a slam. Not much support or belief in her daughter or thier attempts to work things out and keep the family together. Sounds like Sarah might be holding a grudge and thinks Levi isn't good enough to be a part of that family. If it works it works, if it doesn't it doesn't. Is there no end to the lunacy of this hillbilly family? When will the inevitable announcement come that the "engagement" is off - with Sarah trumpeting it as a "positive" sign of the sweet young couple's ongoing maturation process and exercise of their free wills. All with God's blessing, of course. The hell with what's good for Little Tripp.

For someone, when campaigning for Vice President, that complained about her family being covered in the evil, left wing press, she sure didn't wait to go public about her daughter and grandchild. When Bristol was a single parent she was pretty much off the radar when Ms. Palin was stumping for Tea Party and Republican candidates. Now that she appears to be towing the line when it comes to the family values thingy all is good in the world according to Palin.

for the kid's sake i trully hope the father turns out not to be the shmuck that he's been acting like. at the end of the day, this is bristol's decision. the rest of us can only wish the best for her and her child.
