Palin family responds to engagement news

The Palin family released a statement Wednesday after Bristol Palin announced her engagement.
The Palin family released a statement Wednesday after Bristol Palin announced her engagement.

(CNN) - Sarah and Todd Palin released this statement Wednesday following the news that their daughter Bristol is now engaged to her on-again, off-again boyfriend Levi Johnston:

"Bristol, at 19, is now a young adult. As parents we obviously want what is best for our children, but Bristol is ultimately in charge of determining what is best for her and her beautiful son.

Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.

We pray that, as a couple, Bristol and Levi's relationship matures into one that will allow Tripp to grow up graced with two loving parents in his life."

Sarah must really hate Levi to respond that way to an engagement of all things, LOL.

Lot of hedging in that statement. I guess they know this will end badly.

Wow.....boy, is that a luke-warm response or what?

Watch out Bristol.... you've really pi$$ed off the "momma grizzly" this time!! You just blew away any teeny-tiny chance Palin thought she might have at being the president. You know what they say – "hell hath no fury...."

I would suggest moving VERY far away from Alaska (and you may want to take a few of your siblings with you.... and your dad!!) Life at home is going to be very ugly for quite some time!!

The icing on the cake..... Bristol quickly announces after the soon-to-be wedding that she's preggers!! (then she hopes that nobody can count to 9 months!)

Palin is saying in other words..........I pray my daughter is not a looser or a quiter as her mother!! LOL

"Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives."

Sounds like they still can't stand Levi, and blame him for a lot of things that can really be attributed to (a) the publicity brought on by Mrs. Palin's political ambitions, and (b) Sarah's outright meddling in their lives. The Palin's statement does not strike me as that of loving parents, good Christians, or even good people. They had an opportunity here to say something a lot more kind and loving, and IMHO they blew it.

I hope that, for the sake of Bristol, Levi, and Tripp, Mrs. Palin never campaigns for another public office. Yeah, right.

    Can't you feel the love?

Nowhere in the announcement does it say the word 'happy', 'love' ... in fact, it basically says

"We want what's best for our daughter – but if she chooses something else, well gosh, there's not much we can do about that is there?"

Despite the best intentions of CNN and other news agencies, this does not constitute news and especially should not be on the Political Ticker page. Palin is a private citizen now with some out of touch and ridiculous ideas, but this description can be applied to some of my neighbors and you don't see information about them on CNN. Let it go and hopefully she will fade into obscurity when she belongs.

The kids are off limits. They shouldn't have to even comment, it is not news worth.

Palin is going to run for Pres so she paid off Levi to clean up her awful familys image. If you cannot see through this you are blind.

The previous article was filled with hateful liberal responses. Any bets that the childish name calling and hate will continue? Please, liberals, prove me wrong. Show us that you aren't just filled with hate towards beliefs that don't completely align with your own.

What a nasty statement. They should have just kept quiet if they are unhappy about it. I think the young couple would be best off if they had no contact with the in-laws.

It's always a good thing when a daughter is afraid to tell her mother about getting married.....maybe American can fear Palin just like her own daughter apparently does....or is it that perhaps Mom really isn't around that much to care? More proof Americans are morons for following this woman's life. She's an example alright - an example of why we need to ignore her.

"Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives. "

Did she just admit that she can't forgive as much as her 19-year old does? Weren't Palin and Michelle Bachman, the hot senator from MN, preaching on separate occasions once? I found those videos on youtube. Another proof Christians are hypocritical.

Give me a break!! The only interference Bristol and Levi had in their lives is YOU bringing them out in the MEDIA without thinking!!!! The only redemption and forgiveness I see is Bristol standing up on her own and not allowing YOU to interfere.... PERIOD!!!

This whole episode was PRE-planned and LAID out – the apology, the proposal, the response to engagement and what's next – the HAPPY marriage!!
