(CNN) - Sarah and Todd Palin released this statement Wednesday following the news that their daughter Bristol is now engaged to her on-again, off-again boyfriend Levi Johnston:
"Bristol, at 19, is now a young adult. As parents we obviously want what is best for our children, but Bristol is ultimately in charge of determining what is best for her and her beautiful son.Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.
We pray that, as a couple, Bristol and Levi's relationship matures into one that will allow Tripp to grow up graced with two loving parents in his life."

Very well said! It takes a big person to wish the young couple the best after the nasty words that have been said. Sarah and Todd have a genuine love for their daughter and grandson. In my book that makes them the type of people we all need to be more like. Thanks Sarah for your example.
Wonder how much Palin paid Levi to legitimize the bastard child so she would have a cleaner slate so she could pass moral judgement on others.

Ugh. Although a registered republican I am absolutely not a Sarah Palin supporter, but as a parent of two adult children I certainly empathize with her and Todd, and hope the very best for their grandchild.

As parents, you react well. I disagree with your politics, hate messages and Palintology (science of ignorance) but I commend you for wearing the hat of parents who did throw their kids out there in mercy of Republicants who love to divorce their wives every second... hypocrits and .... (Hoops do you know who is real Mrs. Gringrich or Mrs. Guiliani). Mrs. Palin, stay away from hate messages, show us the good side of a loving mother, and help your daughter and son-in-law to be, to grow and raise their lovely boy. I know some peole are fascinated by the palins I am not. Todays lack of news and available feedback is like reading AOL. One thing i noticed on here today is the only feedback allowed were on articles about the democrats? Whay not also on the republicans? gee go figure even on the Newt junk. This is probably the most intelligent thing Sarah Palin has ever said. She must have worked hard on that statement. She kept her innate viciousness in check, supported her daughter to a certain degree, and said something that won't alienate those of her fans who believe that the young couple should get married and make a home for their child. Levi is one brave kid. And it looks like he is in the drivers seat again.

Say what you may about the Palin family, that was very nicely put by Sarah Palin. It is not easy to forgive and forget all the hurtful things Levi sprouted in trying to get his 15 minutes of fame.
I hope for the sake of the child, they truly do put away the hurtful sayings and act like parents.
These are a bunch of Hypocrites. They preach something and practice something. Nothing against Bristol getting engaged again to the same person, but the way they destroy someone.
Day after day, month after month, the Palins stay at the top of the political ticker, despite all calls from CNN readers to ignore them. Why not rename the ticker "As the Stomach Turns"?

"But" It can be a very big word sometimes. Obviously, they differ in what they think is best for her. Either way – I hope it works out for the couple and their child. They were thrown into a situation (the campaign) that was a very poor decision by the grandmother of this child.

I gotta say...I'm not a big Sarah Palin fan, but this is one classy comment by the Palins (I mean this sincerely). Given all that has happened, I'm sure that the Palins are not too happy. They have shown true grace and loyalty here. Well done.
