(CNN) - Sarah and Todd Palin released this statement Wednesday following the news that their daughter Bristol is now engaged to her on-again, off-again boyfriend Levi Johnston:
"Bristol, at 19, is now a young adult. As parents we obviously want what is best for our children, but Bristol is ultimately in charge of determining what is best for her and her beautiful son.Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.
We pray that, as a couple, Bristol and Levi's relationship matures into one that will allow Tripp to grow up graced with two loving parents in his life."

A very classy nice statement that anyone can agree with... but let the Palin bashing from the angry left begin.
Whatever else Levi Johnston has or hasn't done, he deserves to be faulted for increasing the number of Palins on earth.

I do not like the Palins and feel that John McCain made a grave mistake bringing her into the public eye, but that was a lovely statement.

I'm not a fan of Sarah Palin or her policies, but how her children choose to spend their lives should have no impact on whether she would do a good job for her state, her party or her country. It may say something about what kind of parent she is, but we do not judge CEO's by their parenting skills; we judge them by how well they do for their companies. Similarly, we judge salespeople by how well they sell. A governor is the CEO of her state; a party spokesperson is a salesperson of the ideas of her party. Judge her by these merits, not whether she is raising an exemplary family.
Goodness, her own daughter is afraid of her and calls her "intimidating and scary". What should that tell you?
