(CNN) - Sarah and Todd Palin released this statement Wednesday following the news that their daughter Bristol is now engaged to her on-again, off-again boyfriend Levi Johnston:
"Bristol, at 19, is now a young adult. As parents we obviously want what is best for our children, but Bristol is ultimately in charge of determining what is best for her and her beautiful son.Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.
We pray that, as a couple, Bristol and Levi's relationship matures into one that will allow Tripp to grow up graced with two loving parents in his life."

So.... do the Palins accept the apology that Levi recently issued to the media? Do they accept him into their family? Judging by the words used in their statement, I don't think so.

If you think that Sarah Palin didn't orchestrate this marriage preparing for her presdential run in 2012 then I have an oil well to sell you in the gulf. This woman will pimp everyone in her sphere of influence to get to her goals. She proved in 2008 that she is not above using her daughter if it will further her aspirations. What a strange family. The adult daughter makes a personal announcement to her parents through a magazine interview, and the mother and father respond tersely through a press agent. Dysfunction junction. Not something to aspire to, folks.
That's a polite way of saying, "We think she's screwing up her life and we strongly disapprove and tried to change her mind and got into a big argument about it, but she's an adult and we can't control her anymore. It is her life and we love her and wish her well although we feel this is doomed – good luck and love you."

Is this really news? How is this any different from ‘look what Britney did’ or ‘guess whose gay?’ I mean how many people really care about this? In summation: it doesn’t matter if the father is in the child’s life; the kid has Sara Palin as a grandmother, he’s screwed

Palin told Oprah Levi was more interested in being a p0rn star and that he was exploiting his relationship with Bristol and the baby for celebrity purposes.

There's something fundamentally broken when parents send out press releases on their kids. And of course, for bonus points, Mom and Dad here don't bother to offer up even the standard "we love and support our daughter" stuff. Wow

So Sarah/Todd are still clueless about what's going on in their children's lives.You'd think after having one daughter get knocked up, they'd pay more attention. Who's raising these kids? she's on the road all the time, and strangely Todd is always with her, not home with the kids.

Good for her. I would feel the same way if it were my daughter and its nice to see she respects the fact that if her daughter is old enough to be a mother, than she is old enough to make a decision like this.
