Boehner: Current economic state 'the epitome of failure'

(CNN) – House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, welcomes President Obama to Michigan Thursday with a scathing critique of his economic policies.

"When President Barack Obama speaks in Holland today, I hope that instead of trying to convince the people of a city suffering from 11.8 percent unemployment that our economy is 'moving forward,' he will listen closely when they ask, 'Where are the jobs?,' Boehner wrote in an editorial that appears in Thursday's edition of The Detroit News.

In the op-ed, Boehner said that since February 2009 the economy has lost three million private sector jobs while the federal government has added more than 400,000 jobs.

"More government, fewer jobs: This isn't the picture of recovery; it's the epitome of failure," the top House Republican wrote.

The president is scheduled to travel to Holland, Michigan to appear at a plant that produces batteries for electric vehicles. The plant is funded by a grant from Obama's $787 billion stimulus plan.

Yes, and it was all so rosy before Obama took office. Do you hear yourself, or has the sun scorched your brain?

    Dear Sir,

What are your ideas, other than cut social programs, cut taxes for the wealthy and big business, buy guns, stop the women's right to choose, and get rid of gays.
    Sounds very Christian to me......
You sir, should be voted out of office.

The American people need to wake up and realize the republicans DONOT care about the middle class and the poor.

Big Businesses are making tons of money, they are just sitting on the cash, why are they not hiring? Wake up America!!!!!

And who caused it, it took years to get us here and like Mr. Obama said, it will take awhile to get us out. Stop wishing him to fail.

All that you are going to hear from obama is the same old retoric, more lies and propaganda and how this economic downturn was all president Bushes fault and bash the republicans like an idiot .

These guys will say anything regardless of whether its true or not. I would say the epitome of failure is the "Cut taxes for the rich, get rid of regulation" ideology of the Republicans. Doesn't anyone remember the stock market losing half its value in a few weeks as the culmination of President Bush's econopmic policy? That's what caused the jobs to go and it was the result of the Republican agenda that still hasn't changed.

Yeah right, Boehn-head. What is the GOP solution to this economic mess that Bush dumped in Obama's lap? Criticize, criticize... but no solutions. So typical of the Rethuglicans.

Obama and Biden think we are so stupid that we would believe the stimulus worked. Soon they will be telling people that don't have a job that they have one.

Boehner-we are readily established that Bush and the GOP's trickle-down economics experiment failed, putting us in the current economic situation.

When will you start being bipartisan and start working with the Democrats to come up with solutions?

The 8th congressional district of Ohio is House Minority Leader John Boehner's. What's he doing up in Michigan? He needs to be grounded in his own district to minimize embarrassment. This guy needs psychological help as he is "consistently off his rocker". President Obama needs to have the the Democratic Contender of the 8th congressional district of Ohio 'shadow' the president for a couple of weeks to get him up to speed to defeat John Boehner. In fact, anyone but John Boehner would do this country a lot of good.

As if anyone in Detroit would listen to John Boehner, except maybe co-hort Rep. Pete (of the Christmas bomber is coming, send money, I'm running for Gov.).

Well then have the battery company give the money back John Boy. In fact just give back all the stimulus money the state received.

Nice tan by the way !

It's lovely rhetoric, but unfortunately it's also intentionally misleading. If that's a failure, then what can Boehner point to as success? Over the eight years he and his party were in power fewer jobs were created than in the first 15 months of the current administration and several times as many were lost. Come to think of it, maybe the current administration should just say that and claim success. C,mon . . .

The epitome of failure is that in November 2008, when Bush and Boehner almost led the U.S. into the second Great Depression.

The epitome of failure was when Bush and Boehner abandoned our troops in Afghanistan with no mission, no leadership and no strategy in order to invade and loot Iraq.

The epitome of failure was to invade Iraq and declare victory...and then get more the 50,000+ U.S. soldiers killed or wounded after the war was supposedly over, costing the taxpayers about 1 TRILLION dollars of debt in order to enrich Halliburton and Blackwater and the oil companies.

The epitome of failure was to deliberately let thousands of Americans die after Hurricane Katrina.

This is just the short list of the Republican/Tea Party list of epitomes of failure.

When a party to a dispute creates a bad situaion and then uses that situation to reinforce their case, it's called "bootstrapping." Boehner and his allies are bootstrapping.

Sorry, congressman, but the current state of failure is the result of W finishing gutting the entire financial regulatory system that was started by St. Ronald of Reagan. When you remove the checks and balances that were held over the financial industry, and allowed companies to pick and choose who they wanted to regulate them. The result was the smallest regulatory agency had the lion's share of companies to supervise. Because the Republican controlled congress wouldn't allow those agencies to get larger staffs, the result was an agency that couldn't keep up with all the companies they were responsible for. Congratulations – you have caused America to reap the harvest you conservatives have sown.

  17. Go Romney!!!

Obama's policies have failed to improve the economy. For those that blindly follow the president, that means that OBAMA FAILED. Sure he has passed horrible legislation that will continue to cripple the economy, but that doesn't equate to a success.

We need a real leader in the White House. One that governs for the good of the people. Not some bozo that wants to pass his unsustainable agenda at any cost. I can't believe that 46% of the people still have confidence in the community organizer.

    Biden = bonehead-iest VP ever.

Boehner and his crew should be horsewhip for stonewalling a chance to return stability to the economy. It is obvious that some Repubilcans/Conservatives would rather see this country come to it knees before they try to truley work with the POTUS. The country was tanking prior to the current adminstration. And Yes it has gotten worse. What has the party of no done to help? Boehner and some others didn't care when gov't spent billions on wars and cut taxes for the wealthy with no budget concerns. Now the Corporations have a lock on Congressional lobbyist thanks to the Roberts crew. Ilegal immigrants are here because of the jobs and services and lack of staff on the borders etc. Some in the Tea Party are racisit, just listen to what they said and some of the signs they display. This is so wrong.

A more accurate description of the "epitome of failure" is the conduct of Boehner and the GOP. Where are your ideas on how to reverse a 50 year trend of sending American manufacturing jobs overseas and how to adapt to a world economy. What's that John? No plan of your own, just criticsm for polirtical purposes. I thought so.

    Dear Mr. Boehner,

Do you have any memory of how we arrived at this sorry state. Please turn your history book from the years 2001 through 2008.

I thought elephants had good memories??

I don't get why Ohio votes for this drunk. He says some of the dumbest things. When he says 'the epitome of failure' does that mean he is ignoring: Bush tanking of the economy evidenced in November 2008 as the Dow tanked and then Bush gave banks a bail out? Or is it that Boehner doesn't understand economics? Or maybe it doesn't matter and the people of Ohio just like the drunk. On a side note: people of Ohio please tell Boehner to lose the orange tan. Maybe he is covering up the yellow of cirrous of the liver but orange is not a better look.
