Democrat has cash lead over Perry in Texas

Former Houston mayor Bill White, a Democrat, has a more than $3 million cash advantage over Texas Gov. Rick Perry, right.

(CNN) – Texas Gov. Rick Perry has been in office for 10 years in a heavily Republican state, but his Democratic challenger raked in more campaign cash during the most recent fundraising period.

Former Houston Mayor Bill White collected nearly $7.5 million between Feb. 20 and the end of June, while Perry took in $7 million.

But more impressive for White is the substantial war chest he has amassed since launching his bid last December.

With the election less than four months away, White has more than $9 million left in the bank.

Perry, who had to slog through a months-long primary fight against Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and conservative activist Debra Medina, has $5.8 million cash-on-hand.

White's campaign is touting support from small donors and first time contributors. More than 11,700 new donors gave to the campaign during the most recent filing period, and 75 percent of White's donors have $100 or less, according to the campaign

Perry's campaign said 87 percent of its contributions were less than $500.

White and Perry are almost even in polls.

Keep talking, Perry-Texas is changing rapidly and fewer people are falling for your shtick.

Hopefully, they will vote in November.

    One more note:

I live in Austin and know several people who have had a reason to meet with Perry. A few of these are pretty conservative folks, too.

To a person, they all leave the meeting stunned at how stupid Perry is. These same people will tell you that W is/was smarter than Perry.

God help us if he wins yet again.

  3. Run Bill White Run!!!!!

I will give to his campaign! I will do anything to get this nut out of office. Bill White is a wonderful man and a proven leader. He has the leadership skills to make it happen. I know people will vote for him. I have worked with him and I know he is an honest man. He lead Houston during Hurricane Rita with ease and sharpness that Perry could never do. Rick Perry is a crook and a fool. He is an embarrassment to any intelligent person. Run my friend run!!!!!!

Sure wish I had a cash lead on my bills. Guess I'll have to become a lying politician to get that wish.

Whether White wins or not it's a slap in the face fork "Dick" Perry. As a Texan I can already see this state changing for the best. I see the VOTE DEMOCRAT stickers on cars and Democrat signs on front yards. Makes me PROUD.

  6. Victim of GOP Taliban

Neo-Confederates are an embarrassment to the nation. Just the fact Perry and others have to literally threaten to leave the Union epitomizes their inherit lack of patriotism and how much they are sore losers. Can't ever deal with Democrat in the White House can you?

Texans should be ashamed. Lyndon Johnson was one of the finest Democrats from Texas that championed Civil Rights and War on Poverty.
Instead Texas lately has brought us the Worst President Ever and jerks like Perry.

Come on Texas...you can do better than all this Neo-Con hatred and bigotry.

  8. 8 Years of "Trickle Down" Economics has only left a wet spot on working America's shoes!

    Well, well, well Pompadour Perry.

We here in Dallas and Houston seem to be ponying up the big bucks, better in Paris, TX to send in your donations!

A true grass roots movement as opposed to your Astroturfing tea gaggers!
