Bar Harbor, Maine (CNN) – President Obama has spent his weekend vacation taking in Maine’s famous coastline, enjoying downtime at a local pool, and eating ice cream.
During their first day, the Obama’s took in some of the state’s attractions - including a hike through Acadia National Park, and a boat ride in the harbor. The first family also capped off the day with a stop for ice cream.
On Saturday, the president and Mrs. Obama took their daughters on a lighthouse tour overlooking Bass Harbor after a morning filled with working out and enjoying a pool.
Though critics argue that Obama should be spending his vacation in the Gulf Coast rather than the Gulf of Maine, local residents have seemed happy to host the first family.
All over the downtown Bar Harbor, locals and tourists can be overheard asking each other if they've had a first family sighting. Shop keepers have signs in their front windows welcoming the president, and one ice cream shop has created a flavor in honor of Obama - the Commander in Chief Chip, a red, white, and blue ice cream with chocolate chips mixed throughout.

I think its great that they are taking a family vacation! He is briefed every single moment on issues. SHOULD there be a current hot issue (attack, violence, storms etc) He would be back in the white house so quick!
If you want to worry about someone not working 7 days a week, look at MITT ROMNEY. His religion alone says he can't work Sundays ( I was a mormon I KNOW). He is not allowed to participate in sports on sundays...not allowed to swim on sundays. What is more american than swimming and bbq on a Sunday with your family!!!

After all the President has had to deal with in his first 18 months, he certainly deserves and needs a restful vacation. I hope he can find it in Maine. What a beautiful state, one of my favorites.

Wow! Look at that! An American African family doing fun stuff with their kids. Hiking, swimming and eating ice-cream together as a family. Going for a boat ride (beware the Duck Boats) and maybe eating a delicious Maine lobster dinner right on the pier.

People in Maine respect our President. They know what hard work and struggle is like.
Of course many Maine residents are excited. The state is populated with half wits and socialist pigs who have assisted Mr. Obama in his rape of America. But the White House/CNN news organization has lost control of the story. You tried to portray Obama as some type of normal American but most of us now know he is the same stripes as Vladimir Lenin, the elitist dictator of early Soviet Russia.
I have no problem with BO going on vacation. Go! Take as much time as you need away from the White House. Don't rush back.
It is good that President Obama has the good sense to take time from the Washington, DC zoo to spend with his family and to just relax and enjoy our great country. Just because President Obama is vacationing, doesn't mean he is not aware of and keeping tabs on things. He is smarter than many of the complainers put together.
Rabid Republicans live up to their usual behavior. Complain. Complain. Complain. They NEVER offer anything positive, just complain and more complain.
Just glad we are a country not in crisis.

So much for his "laser" focus on all the nation's problems, in which he is a big part of the problem .
What could be a better endorsement for tourism to that area – I personally think Obama should continue his "date nights" – maybe once a month or so – and go to different states, different cities & types of events – the first family promoting the rich & varied cultural heritage of the vast United States of America; promoting tourism, lifting the economy along the way & demonstrating a beautiful family role model – now that's leadership – just ignore the ignorant and lead by example.
HellO? A weekend at the beach with your wife and kids isn't a vacation, it's a WEEKEND. And if they'd gone to the Gulf Coast the Gopers would have accused him of playing politics with his family.
People are complaining that Obama should have vacationed on the Gulf coast. However, his abatement and cleanup efforts have been so bad I hardly think anybody should blame him for not wanting to take his daughters to those oil soaked beaches. Maybe if the Federal Government ever gets them cleaned up?
Mr.Pres. and family I wish you they very best and enjoy your well deserve vacation. To all the naysayer STOP WHINNING and volunter your time to h elp clean up the Gulf. The Pres. did not create this mess big oil companys did. Its going to take approx 10yrs to fully clean it up. The Pres. took lest vacation than the Bushes.

These people criticizing Obama for spending some 3 day weekend with his family are just too much..and the wacko CNN media is the worst for keeping it going. UGH!
Give the poor guy a break! He has two young children, and it is important that he spend time with them and his wife as a family, particularly since it didn't seem to be the case when he was a young politician in Washington DC and they stayed at home in Chicago. And I am sure he is being continually briefed about the oil situation and other issues – it's not like that South Carolina governor who took off to South America without even telling his Lieutenant Governor.
The same people who are criticizing him for taking some time off would be criticizing him for grandstanding if he were down in the gulf. They are grasping at straws if taking a vacation is the worst thing they can come up with.
I voted for Obama because I don't have to worry about him starting any stupid wars. So far, so good.

Completely misses the point of symbolism. What a picture to be at the beach in one of the Gulf States and showing the world that he cares and the beaches are OK. How about getting the wife and kids to clean the beach for a few minutes? But no, lets get as far away as possible................. King Obama.
