Bar Harbor, Maine (CNN) – President Obama has spent his weekend vacation taking in Maine’s famous coastline, enjoying downtime at a local pool, and eating ice cream.
During their first day, the Obama’s took in some of the state’s attractions - including a hike through Acadia National Park, and a boat ride in the harbor. The first family also capped off the day with a stop for ice cream.
On Saturday, the president and Mrs. Obama took their daughters on a lighthouse tour overlooking Bass Harbor after a morning filled with working out and enjoying a pool.
Though critics argue that Obama should be spending his vacation in the Gulf Coast rather than the Gulf of Maine, local residents have seemed happy to host the first family.
All over the downtown Bar Harbor, locals and tourists can be overheard asking each other if they've had a first family sighting. Shop keepers have signs in their front windows welcoming the president, and one ice cream shop has created a flavor in honor of Obama - the Commander in Chief Chip, a red, white, and blue ice cream with chocolate chips mixed throughout.

I am delighted that the first family is having a good vacation in Maine. Our President works very hard and it is nice to see him relaxing.
They didn't visit former President Bush?
former President Bush took vacations when we had our men and women dying daily in Iraq, The GOP didn't seem to mind that. Yet they want to blast President Obama for spending some time with his family even though there is not much more physically he can do about the oil spill in the gulf and even though being on vacation can leave at a minutes' notice. Something I think most of us would NOT do if we were on vacation. Sometimes it seems we forget that our leaders are also human and need a break too, and it especially seems that way if they are a member of the opposition party.
Wow, such a beautiful part of the country Acadia National Park is. What did they think they were doing inviting or allowing that dark cloud into town. Such a joke, I guess it is about the money even for them. Ugh, I can't wait for elections so we look American again, even if we don't act it.
Anyone criticizing the Big Boss Don for taking a weekend off should be paraded in front of an firing squad immediately. This is the hardest working president ever. First 18 months in office – Bush took 269 days off, Obama has taken a little over 60.
Bush was on vacation picking bugs from the soil for 7 of the 8 yrs he was in office.
Enjoy some lobster and a side of ice cream, Big Boss Don. You deserve it.
Sounds like they followed the paths of many visitors before them. Bar Harbor is a great place and I am happy that the first family chose to go there.
How many Republicans have been to the Gulf on vacation? Just another way to criticize without having to do anything themselves.
No one deserves a vacation more than President Obama. His vacations are not like ours, He is always on call and being briefed daily.

This president is a tireless worker, it is so nice to seem him and his lovely family enjoy themselves and add a little excitement to the citizens of this Maine town. Mr. President there are more supporters than you know!

This has been a banner week for the republican party. They have complained about the weekend vacation the president and family have taken. Reached out to the NAACP with a very nice letter commenting on how the colored people dont like to work and would rather not be emancipated. One repo managed to make a really nice remark about talk show host Maddow and how she looks like a man.This from a guy who chases whores and like to wear diapers. They have decided to vote No on any more reform bills. Now thats a news flash. This from the orange man himself. Palins kid is back with her ex and it looks like a hill billy wedding in the near future. The President deserves a vacation. He's the hardest working leader we've ever had, and I don't remember all the hoopla over Bush's truly excessive time he spent away from Washington chopping wood and biking at Camp David.
For Pete's sake! He's the President of the USA, not a oil rig roust about. Just what exactly was he supposed to do if he had stayed home and sat in the Oval Office??? Reading all of the idiotic posts about Obama taking a vacation are pretty lame. Lets see, I work 5 days a week 8 hours a day & get 2 days off (my weekend) to spend with family, I do this for 52 weeks 1year, at which time I take 7 days off, that is what is known as a vacation. President Obama works 7 days a week 24/7, even when he is taking 2 days off (his weekend) to spent some time with his wife & children he is still working.
So where do all of you MORONS get that he is on vacation? GET A LIFE.
