(CNN) – Former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin has joined the pantheon of politicians who've made their own additions to the English language.
The former Alaska governor has added to our vocabulary with "refudiates" - assumedly an amalgamation of "refute" and "repudiates." Palin used the new word in a Sunday posting on Twitter that called on Muslims to denounce plans to build a mosque and community center near Ground Zero in New York City.
"Ground Zero Mosque supporters: doesn't it stab you in the heart, as it does ours throughout the heartland? Peaceful Muslims, pls refudiate," Palin tweeted, according to reports.
The original tweet was deleted and replaced with another that lacked "refudiate": "Peaceful New Yorkers, pls refute the Ground Zero mosque plan if you believe catastrophic pain caused @ Twin Towers site is too raw, too real."
Although she deleted her original tweet, Palin is not distancing herself from her new word. Instead, Palin is embracing it and turning to none other than Shakespeare to justify her linguistic invention.
"'Refudiate,' 'misunderstimate,' 'wee-wee'd up.' English is a living language. Shakespeare liked to coin new words too. Got to celebrate it!" Palin tweeted Sunday as the blogosphere started to criticize her for a gaffe.
She alludes to former President George W. Bush's famous utterances of "misunderstimate" during the 2000 campaign and President Barack Obama's use of "wee-wee'd up" to describe Washington's penchant for getting worked up over controversy.
Palin's original tweet remains missing from her Twitter page. Some of Shakespeare's works are lost too.

Just what this country needs, another mosque; but this one built on the ashes of the worst terrorist strike on American soil. All by the members of the "religion of peace." How peaceful are they when they perform female genital mutilation? How about banning women and girls from an education? Or not allowing women to drive? Or for women to be in public without a male family member? Or forced marraige when they are 12 or 13 to someone 4-6 times their age? Where is the NOW cows protesting them. How about the American Medical Association allowing for the
small "nick" on female babies? You sick appeasing leftists will be the undoing of this country; but we will have the last word and our revolution begins on November 2, 2010 at the ballot box. Stand back there is a stampede of elephants getting ready to trample you jackasses.

Palin is "fighting for this nation"? You make me laugh! She's fighting for her pocketbook. We have not heard one valid solution from her as to how she'd address any current issues. We only know her dismal history. America's future in her hands? NO thanks; we want progress; not backwards thinking.
I had thought "refudiation" was just a typo for "repudiation." But since she replaced it with "refute" rather than with "repudiate" I think she really did just make up a word.
I really dislike her. I know this is milk-toast compared to the other comments but I just wanted to say that I really find her ignorant in many things and the things she does know seem to be twisted for some political partisan ambition to control others and be worshipped. There are a few twisted devils lurking about that should be put out to pasture. Palin, Cheney and Rush lean the way in silent support of abortion. These are seeds that should not be sown any more.
CNN has just got to drop all of the Palin coverage. It is giving me tired head. The network seems to go overboard in pointing out every little problem with Palin. As a conservative, I'll admit her flaws are obvious.
The rest of you folks you are a bunch of hypocrites. If an article such as this was written outlining the President's gaffs you would be on here all up in arms about the "negative reporting". or "racist" nature of the comments. Keep it consistent people.

I love it how she tries to pull Obama in when he used the word wee weed up. Obviously Obama was not using a word that he thought was real but obviously slang. Palin and obviously Bush used words that they think are real words, thenn back track when called out on it.

First you have to understand the English language and all of its nuances before you can coin new words. William Shakespeare clearly had an unusually deep command of the language, and so he was allowed poetic license to introduce new elements into the language as he saw fit. You, madam, are NO William Shakespeare. Keith Olbermann is right: You, madam, are an idiot.
No she didn't add new words to the English language. It would be ignorant to assimilate words into our lexicon to validate a 1.4 GPA idiot narrowly able to graduate. CNN, why report such dribble? Surely there are substantive articles or conversations we could be having. Honestly, it seems every word this woman utters demands a headline.
