Senate Judiciary approves Kagan

Washington (CNN) - The Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday approved the nomination of Solicitor General Elena Kagan to become the nation's fourth female Supreme Court justice, setting up a final confirmation vote by the Senate.

The committee vote broke down mostly along partisan lines, with one Republican joining the panel's Democrats in sending the nomination to the full Senate on a 13-6 vote.

Democrats repeatedly characterized Kagan as a strong legal thinker who would be a fair judge, while Republicans slammed her as an inexperienced activist who would be unable to divorce her legal judgments from her political opinions.

Members on both sides expressed frustration with a confirmation hearing process many observers say increasingly yields few clear answers about a nominee's judicial philosophy.

  3. Just say no OR have a moratorium

You mean the just say NO party can't stop another democratically elected day of government from doing the people's work.

We need no more proof: The Repubs don't like to work....they are the party of croni-capitalism and trust fund inheritance. You don't have to work when you just say NO or call for a moratorium on everything and anything...EXCEPT of course for tax cuts for yourself and your rich friends.

America is broke because the RICH took the money over a series of tax cuts from goof ball Reagan on through to the goofiest ball of all in baby Bush. Tax cuts for the rich = large deficits and interest payments to the Chinese!

Republicans will remain unhappy until they can put another right-wing activist judge in there.

Excellent! Now, if the Senate Republicans would stop hurting Americans and pass the unemployment benefit extension, I'd be even more happy.
    ----------
The GOP is willing to help pass the extension. Whta yiu need to do is ask why the liberals will not use unspend TARP funds to pay for it! That is a win-win. People get help and no additional national debt as TARP $$ is already available! It appears PAYGO means nothing to the Liberals!

In all your posts you throw out labels and statements which have no historical or current facts to substatiate them. Just more of the same old hatred, negative spewing of words most of which you clearly could not properly define.

Your becoming very boring -blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda.

Well, that does it. She's in.

This woman seems very impressive intellectually, and let me be the millionth person to point out that several conservatives have been appointed to the Supreme Court without any experience as a judge, most notably Chief Justice William Rehnquist.

Kagan will more than hold her own on the Supreme Court.

"In 2008 we were asked to place the country in the hands of a person that had NO EXPERIENCE. A majority of the American people were fooled and lied to and now we have a leftist in the Whitehouse.
Now the same gang is asking to put an inexperienced person on the USSC for a LIFE TIME APPOINTMENT! This Leftist/Progressive/Liberal will vote to ruin this country for the next 30-50 years!! Sotomayer LIED during her confirmation hearings about the 2nd Amendment and this one is a liar as well.
VOTE NO AND SAVE AMERICA FROM THESE PROGRESSIVES!!!"

Do you honestly believe that anyone in our government, including our president is progressive? Your perspective has been warped by 30 years of corporatist rule. They've pushed the political spectrum so far to the right that even your savior, Ronnie Rayguns, (you know, the guy who pardoned millions of illegal aliens and raised taxes 4 times to get us out of a recession,) would appear to be a socialist to the idiot "real Americans" Ask yourself, what was the last piece of legislation that didn't help large corporations at the expense of the people. You'd probably have to go back to LBJ to find an example. But just keep believing what your TV tells you to believe. Have a nice day!

Now if we could just replace the the corporatists, Scalia, Roberts we might just turn this country around.

Just because you simpletons on the right hear Fox TV say something and then you post it on some website – does not make the lies true.
If you factually look at Kagan's work and experiance she is undeniably over quailified! Period. All your crying, whinning, and name-calling won't change that fact.
It just freaks you radicals out because she won't talk nehanderthal as the activist right-wing judges Scallia, Thomas, and Roberts do.

Barack.Hussein.Obama-America's-Incompetent-DICTATOR – First, it's SotomayOr, get her name right. Second, many 'inexperienced person' or 'men without bench experience' were appointed and confirmed in the past, some did good stuff and some did bad stuff, check on THEIR records before coming again with your baseless and weightless rant.
'Leftist/Progressive/Liberal' is not an offense. If it is for you then you just spoke volumes about your bias and political prejudice.

What Ms. Sherrod said is pale in comparison to what transpired in the to my family in the fifies and sixties. I can remember the county agents directing my father to plowing under 1 acre of 8 acres of cotton on the family small farm so the white farmers could keep the 250 acres.

I wonder if a certain commenter even knows what a dictator is. I wonder if said commenter is aware that there was an election in November, 2008 and his side lost. I wonder if Tea Wingers think that elections are passe'.

Obama is not a leftist dictator, commie, or nazi! Elena Kagan definitely knows the law and its her life's calling! Its no surprise to me that she would take the promotion from the Dean of Harvard's Law School to become a Supreme Court Justice. Hopefully, the laws will protect those that are governed by them-Elana Kagan will do great things to promote that!
