Sherrod: White House worried about Glenn Beck

(CNN) – Shirley Sherrod, a former USDA employee who resigned after a controversial video surfaced, told CNN Tuesday that members of the Obama administration "harassed" her and demanded she resign her post immediately.

In an interview with CNN, Sherrod said she repeatedly fielded calls on Monday during a long car ride, during which officials insisted that she pull over to the side of the road and quit her post.

"They asked me to resign, and, in fact, they harassed me as I was driving back to the state office from West Point, Georgia yesterday," Sherrod told CNN. "I had at least three calls telling me the White House wanted me to resign…and the last one asked me to pull over to the side of the road and do it."

Update, 4:36 p.m.: A White House official tells CNN's Suzanne Malveaux the White House was not involved in pressuring for a resignation: "The White House did not pressure her or USDA over the resignation. It was the Secretary’s decision, as he has said.”

Sherrod said the final call came from Cheryl Cook, an undersecretary at the Department of Agriculture. Sherrod said White House officials wanted her to quit immediately because the controversy was "going to be on Glenn Beck tonight."

So Sherrod will join the person who was the head of MMS after it was discovered by FOX NEWS that MMS granted the permits and allowed "Short cuts" in the permitting for the Rig that blew up causing the worst environmental disaster in our history. In other words the Liberal media will sweep it all under the rug and never cover these people again just like the New Black Panther Party story that they didn't cover.

The OLD MEDIA in this country has lost all of its objectivity and what was left of its integrity therefore, its losing its audience. More and more people are looking elsewhere for their news and information. They want FAIR coverage of the events that have an impact on their lives that the old liberal media won't give them.

Shirley Sherrod only has herself to blame. If she had a non-racist point to make, she really did a poor job of it. Now as a private person, not a public official, she is free to voice her opinion as she obviously likes to do, with no constraints, no consequences, and she can now talk about anything, no need to thing about how here words will impact the public .... so I would expect she should be happy now and not continue blame the current administration.

The hard cold facts are that racism is real, effects all classes of Americans, just some more then others and becasue all racism is BAD, her comments areindefensible so of course she was asked to reign by the current administration that understandably does not want to be defined by this one person’s admitted past racist actions, even if she was not with the USDA at the time – end of story.

Same rule applies to Sherrod that applied to Tea Party Express leader Mark Williams and anyone else that is a racist, no matter what position they hold. Time doesn't change the fact that she used her power 2 decades ago to wrong a farmer due to race. Her remarks are her own, they were not taken out of context, that's just an excuse because she lost her position.

  4. Thank you Glenn Beck!

Keep the pressure on these government officials. This bigotry has no place in 2010 America. Racism is WRONG, no matter what your racial background or skin color is. If it wasn't for a true patriot like Mr. Beck, this would have been ignored by the rest of the lamestream media, and Mr. Obama would have got another free pass. You are a true patriot Mr. Beck. God bless you!

    Sour grapes, Sherrod?

Maybe this administration just doesn't tolerate racism of any kind.

She should resign because what she said was completely stupid.

    HOWEVER:

The folks on the right should stop pretending that they give a squirt of pee about some poor farmer 24 years ago.

The right doesn't care about anyone..."personal responsibility" "no bailouts" etc etc. Mock indignation at it's finest.

Is this the best they could come up with? Pathetic.

This is pitiful. Can someone explain to me why a person must resign because they areaharassed into it? Let the employer FIRE the person and deal with that. Either there is good reason for the termination or there isn't. Making an employee resign (and who wouldn't resign if the White House told you to?) is just letting the employer off the hook and allowing them to just not deal with the truth and reality. This sounds like a pile of "stuff" and if the government doesn't believe that the people of the US can understand and figure out the truth (instead of just sound bites), then we need to really re-think the whole government process, and I mean BOTH parties.

That woman needed to resign..had the roles been reversed there would have been outrage. The white house should worry about Glen Beck, he is calling them out on every LIE they tell.....someone has to do the job, since the media has their head in the sand when it comes to Obama.

Yes, that sounds like something any lower level functionary would to to protect the president in any White House. Ms. Sherrod's comments, while not racist, showed that she had difficulty doing her job independent of who she was dealing with or how they were responding to her personally. This would cause serious concern in any case, but the fact that her comments reflected badly on the administration that appointed her was the killing blow for her continued employment.

more of that white guy called 'reverse' racism again ... whites need to understand that so called "reverse discrimination" is really self defense, civil rights, and the enforcement of equality.

The Obama Administration should not have waited for Shirley Sherrod to resign. She should have been fired for illegal discrimination against the white farmer. There is no place for any kind of discriminatory conduct in today's professional workplace. Everyone must be treated equally and fairly. Being a minority person does not give Sherrod or anyone else a pass or license to discriminate against people of other ethnic groups. White folks were and are wrong to discriminate and black folks are equally wrong for doing so out of retailiation or a desire to even the score. Shirley Sherrod's actions were wrong and reprehensible and should not be condoned period!!

White House worried about Glenn Beck?
Oh I forgot, that goes with the fantasy about liberals being afraid of Palin.
You keep thinking that on into the November elections and I'm sure it will go very well for the party of "NO" effort.

Don't cry over spilled milk or loose lips! Realize that in any government position, anything said or done will be on youtube within 1 hour of it happening! Her comments were out of line!!!!! Enough said!!!!

  19. Disgusted Black Man

What has Glen Beck got to do with the fact that you practiced open discrimination? Just because black farmers have been discriminated upon does not give you the right to do thesame. Beside it your big mouth ( Bragging Rights) that gave put you in your current position. If I was obama, I would fire you within Seconds. Resignation is too easy for this kind of blatant discrimination. We blacks tend to dwell too much on the past, please move on. it is 2010 not the 1800's. What a role Model??

From the clip I heard, by neglecting to mention that the incident happened over 20 years ago, she allowed the audience to believe this was a recent event. By doing so, she perpetuates racism – on both sides.

Shame on her for lying by omission!

It's sad to see that in today's climate, everything is being made a racial issue. I hoped this country was past that.
