Washington (CNN) - Congressional Democrats have had a fairly successful time pushing through their agenda since taking control of both chambers of Congress and the White House.
Congress passed items backed by President Obama such as health care reform, a financial regulatory bill and economic stimulus measures.
The most recent wins came Tuesday when Senate Democrats broke a Republican filibuster on extending unemployment benefits to some Americans, and a Senate committee approved Supreme Court justice nominee Elena Kagan.
But that might be the last victories Democrats see in Congress for a while with both parties starting to pay more attention to midterm elections than legislation.
Democrats are DOA at the voting machine in November 2010
Seems the title to this is a bit misleading at best, CNN. In fact, it should read, "Dems pick up steam for elections!" Yes, I'd rather they be able to stay focused on the agenda as they're kicking butt getting things done in spite of the GOP obstructionists. They are doing their jobs just like we voted for them to do. But the elections, though highly distracting, are important this year. They may lose a few in the red states; no big surprise, but not nearly as much as earlier predicted. Folks are seeing that the GOP has no new solutions; only a crappy track record from year's past.
A neutral media would laud the awesome accomplishments of the current government. Fox faults everything done; CNN and the mainstream news look for the worst to report.
I guess bad news sells, and the dollar is king.
The Democrats know what's coming and it isn't pretty. So they're trying to shove as much bad legislation through as possible. Get ready for a long, cold winter Dems. After November you won't have a pot to pee in.
Dem agenda is done come Nov...
4 years of their deplorable management is enough... America can't afford anymore... we have done nothing but fallen since 2006... The Dems had a chance and blew it big time at a tune of 5+ Trillion Dollars over budget)... enough is enough
I can only hope that is true. Hopefully the elections in Nov will ensure that no more money will be spent without a way to pay it back. 13 trillion and counting
The most recent win came Tuesday, but since then they ran out of steam, so that you can make that your headline. What FACTS do you present to back that headline? i see NONE.
Ted Turner, Great American, would be rolling over in his grave (if he were in one) at your shoddy reporting.
This sounds alot like, "what have you done for me lately?" Right after the firefighter pulls your family from the fire.
Look at the list of accomplishments. This is an impressive list. While everyone would like there to be more jobs, maybe there would be if Republican Congressmen and Senators would stop holding up all meaningful initiatives; if Republican governors would stop holding up stimulus funding and job projects in their states; if the GOP would stop influencing businesses to delay hiring until after the election.
The problem with America is the Republican Party, or at least the current version of it. And, with the Tea party influence, it is only getting worse. These people want to go back to the white 1950s.
So, other than opposing EVERYthing the Democrats propose, what the heck have Republicans offered instead? Nothing but "No!" for everything...stimulus package to healthcare to Justice Sotomayor to soon-to-be Justice Kagan.
Someone should tell the Republicans that you can't always just be AGAINST every single thing...sometimes you have to be FOR things in order to succeed.
Oh puleeeeeseeee. There is always another $ trillion to borrow or tax somewhere!
