Facebook apologizes for deletion of Palin post

Social networking giant Facebook apologized Thursday over an automated system's deletion of a post by Sarah Palin.
Social networking giant Facebook apologized Thursday over an automated system's deletion of a post by Sarah Palin.

Washington (CNN) – Social networking site Facebook issued a bit of a mea culpa Thursday after a post by former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin was deleted from the massive site.

In a statement given to CNN, Facebook said a "note" by Palin about her opposition to building a mosque near New York City's Ground Zero had been deleted by an automated system.

"The note in question did not violate our content standards but was removed by an automated system," Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes said in the statement. "We're always working to improve our processes and we apologize for any inconvenience this caused."

After the original post was deleted, Palin re-posted the note Thursday morning.

Oh, wow! Facebook tried their best to "refudiate" the wicked witch of Alaska with her stupid, inane, juvenile comments, only to have to end up apologizing to the dim wit. What a laugh!

Sarah Palin has a right to be heard – just like you or I. You can't tell me that "Big Brother" is not involved. You are responding just as the Media has in the mistreatment of this woman. Shame on you. If you believe to be so much better qualified than go for it.

I do not like Sarah Palin, and think she's a terrible candidate for just about any office. However, to see many of you advocating, and even cheering censorship is frightening. We disagree with her so we should have her words deleted and censored is the sentiment. Wow, that's chilling to hear in America.

I certainly hope that for Sarah Palin to lose, people like you don't have to win.

Is there any way Facebooks' automated system can remove Sarah's ego as well?

This looks like just another attack on Gov. Palin. Lets compare Shirley Sherrod and Sarah Palin. Ms. Sherrod is attacked by conservatives, and the media jump to defend. Ms. Palin is attacked by liberals (read The Daily Caller) and the same media ignore the story. We know from The Daily Caller there was a coordinated attack from day one to destroy Gov. Palin and NOT one media outlet covers the story. I have defended CNN often, but this Republican may have to leave CNN.

Facebook, no apology necessary; you did us all a big favor...as least for a while. Wish you could completely delete all this windbag's rants.

"Palin should delete herself from the political process. She's a stain on the conservative movement."

I think conservatives are a stain on the conservative movement.

Quit referring to this idiot as "Governor"; she isn't. Remember, she quit because she couldn't handle it. Just back from Alaska and all the folks I chatted with really can't stand Palin....refreshing!

it seems odd to me that some are comfortable with the idea that free speech is not necessarily something conservatives should enjoy. its sad that people who are willing to loose their freedom to protest for others to have their right to free speech voice these troubling sentiments. have we come to the point where we cheer the censoring of speech made by conservatives, but insist that liberals have the right to say anything they want? freedom is preserved only when we preserve an environment for open discussion; no matter how ugly they may become at times.

Facebook, leave the comment removed, she has spewed enough hate in her time without understanding the issues. Repuglicans want to erode more rights from this great constitution. Let them build it. Its like saying don't build a church in Oklahoma City otherwise you exhault Timothy!

First, let's discontinue the use of Governor in front of her name. She quit – she should forfeit that title. Second, let's stop feeling sorry for her "mistreatment". She's making millions off of it – and she likes the attention. She knows what she's doing. She chose fame and fortune – so now she gets what goes along with fame and fortune. And lastly, FB is a crap site that seems to do whatever they want. However, it is also a FREE site and NO ONE (including Sara Palin, the victim) is REQUIRED to use it. If she doesn't like it, she should follow here conservative principles and NOT USE IT.

I only wish your system could automatically delete her .This wouldn.t be a response to the mosque and "refudiate" was within. I hope she didn't" wee wee up" when that happened.
