Greene's military record reveals blemishes

Documents obtained by the Associated Press reveal that Senate hopeful Alvin Greene has a less than stellar military record.
Documents obtained by the Associated Press reveal that Senate hopeful Alvin Greene has a less than stellar military record.

(CNN) – New documents indicate that Senate candidate Alvin Greene, a political novice who shocked observers by winning the South Carolina Democratic primary, has a less than stellar military record.

According to records obtained by the Associated Press, Greene was denied two promotions and made "mistakes as severe as uploading sensitive information improperly, and as basic as an overall inability to clearly express his thoughts and perform basic tasks."

The records cover a short, three year period of Greene's service in the Air Force.

Greene was discharged from the military last August.

Greene's victory in the June 8 primary stunned many political observers since Greene had not actively campaigned for the nomination, and he had no prior political experience.

Since then, Greene has proposed that that one way to help create jobs in his state is to "make toys of me, especially for the holidays. Little dolls. Like maybe action dolls. Me in an army uniform, air force uniform, and me in my suit."

Last week, Greene urged voters to "get South Carolina and America back to work" in his first major public speech since his primary victory.

"My campaign is about ... moving South Carolina and America forward," the 32-year-old Greene told a friendly audience in his hometown of Manning during a brief, halting speech that at times jumped from one topic to the next.

Earlier this month, Greene retained a private criminal defense attorney against charges he showed pornographic images to a college student last November.

The existence of the criminal charges came to light after the primary win. State Democratic leaders called for him to step aside, at the time afraid he would not mount a serious campaign against incumbent Republican Senator Jim DeMint.

At least he's not out there saying he's some kind of war hero. I'll still pick this guy over Sen. Demented any day.

Why should his record matter when we ignore our Congress who are under investigation, some probably still serving time, some still making laws you have to go, by while still supposedly under investigation for all sort of crimes that would have the average Joe in jail.I wish I could vote for this man.I would bet he has done nothing that would prevent him from getting a legal passport in this country. Try hobnobing with terrorist and see if you can get a passport. If you ever wondered why jails have bars it is for transparency.

Why is this guy doing this? Why is he running for a Senator when he clearly doesn't have a snowball's chance? Now, because no viable Democratic candidate has come forward to challenge him, this Country has to be subjected to another 6 years of Jim Demented – the Waterloo jerk!

We have serious problems in South Carolina when people elect a man charged with a felon as Senator. Now it's no surprise of his military record as and is clearly a troubled man. The district must have a better candidate to represent them. Everyone knows Greene was a patsy put in by DeMint to win. Greene charged with a felony and the victim explained how he showed her porn/asked her to go to a room for sex. The man is a pervert and criminal. DeMint knew he'd lose because he did nothing for the people so he found a way to win by default. Once sentenced Greene will not be qualified for the Senate seat, DeMint will win by default. Corrupt people come in all colors.

So basically he's a drooling idiot. Sounds like he will fit right in with his other party colleagues.

Some good reporting CNN...NOT! Was his discharge honorable? If yes we are going to say things like because he was an average person this is somehow a bad thing?
The way I see it the best and the brightest have been running this country right along and what did we get FUBAR!
IMHO the average person in America has made the most contributions to the great history of our nation. maybe we need a few more regular average people in Government.

This guy's not for real – c'mon! Somebody got smart and gamed the system – Republicans voted en masse for the Democrat least likely to win an election. Since the vast majority of votors in SC are Republican, they have the numbers to do that without endangering their candidates in their own primary.

I say elect Greene, and the Republican Imbeciles in SC can have what they deserve: A mentally-challenged Democrat instead of their usual morally-challenged Republicans.

I am truly embarrassed by Greene!! Not because he wants to be a Senator – but because he is not qualified and he knows it!!! Who's behind this????

Come on now – take a look at Meeks from FL – now he represents an intelligent African American man (and it's not because he is good-looking...LOL)!!!

I think there is MALICE behind Greene getting elected and I am appalled that the democrats allowed it.

    I BETCHA there's a RepubliCAN'T behind all of this!!!

The man is no mental giant and that is not surprising based on how horrible the school system is for blacks in SC. At least he has a heart and cares about the downtrodden people in his state and about the bettering of our nation.
Republican DeMint is a typical southern racist who has worked to keep blacks down in SC and cares only about himself and the failure of the intelligent, successful, black President Obama. He is a disgrace to the Senate and should not be re-elected. I
If all the blacks in SC who are still heavily discriminated against there would rise up and vote for Greene, DeMint would LOSE. Greene would at least make an effort to do what was right for the People. Lord knows there are no Republicans who give a damn about the American People.
Go Greene! Vote SC and scare the heck out of the white supremacists in your state!

So let me guess. No one vetted this clown or did a background check? Give me a break. This just shows you how screwed up our system is. Any body running for dogcatcher to President should have background checks and full vetting. Look at the horrible job the GOP did and we could have had that idiot from Alaska as VP. No wonder the people think the country is going in the wrong direction – we have idiots in Washington
