Obama, Sherrod speak

(CNN) - President Obama and Shirley Sherrod have now spoken by telephone, the White House reports:

The President reached Ms. Sherrod by telephone at about 12:35. They spoke for seven minutes.

The President expressed to Ms. Sherrod his regret about the events of the last several days. He emphasized that Secretary Vilsack was sincere in his apology yesterday, and in his work to rid USDA of discrimination.

The President told Ms. Sherrod that this misfortune can present an opportunity for her to continue her hard work on behalf of those in need, and he hopes that she will do so.

If it was a white employee and black farmers this would not be happening. No matter what you try to do its called a racist remark and the federal government employee.

I hope she told him what he could do with his tendency to rush to judgement in "matters of race".

So now this lovely lady has received and accepted sincere apologies from the NAACP, Department of Agriculture and, most importantly, the President of the United States. Now the only people who have not apologized are Briekbart and Fox News who are the ones who deliberately started this whole situation by slandering her and misrepresenting her speech. She should sue them for defamation of character, emotional distress, etc. etc. etc. She has been victilmized by their irresponsible reporting and they need to be called on it.

Theres alot that bothers me about this whole affair. one is who created the fake and cut up interviews and place it on the net. the other thing is how quick everyone and I do mean every one jumped on the fake piece with avengance as if becuase it was on U-tube it was gosple. Thats freeky in itself. Just like these tweets, Many times done in a quick rant are always qouted as if its the god's honest fact. It may sound crazy but just step back and take a look. i think itnuts. We need to be able to figure out the facts not just be thin accepting.

Now Shirley, ya know many caucasians have lost their jobs from racial comments made past and present. You may feel you are being discriminated against but you are victim of your own "past?"bias. How about a Pesidential appointment to ease your suffering!

Yet another "teachable moment." For not having any involvement in the decision to fire her, they sure are falling all over themselves to apologize!
They could truly reduce their embarrasing moments, if they would stop with the knee jerk reactions! If they had reacted 1/10 as fast to the oil spill. the crude would have never made it to shore!

Now go watch the entire video released by the NAACP in which Ms. Sherrod stats the everyone is (was) against Healthcare reform because the president is black. That's also a fairly racist statement. Opps, maybe Barry-O reacted too quickly twice.

Finally! This is a teachable moment –I hope that President Obama learns a lesson to get all of the facts before rushing a decision. She is a good woman who overcame her biases and racism by her as well as racism against her to help poor people.

We need to stop throwing around the accusation of racism frivolously. When it is not true that accusation can be just as hurtful as racism itself. We all need to look into our own hearts and not assume we know what is in everyone elses heart.

Similarly, I know many people who support the tea party discussion and care deeply about people of all races. It is hurtful when we accuse them unjustly. Lets debate issues not attack people.

I seriously believe that President Obama is much too sensitive about any issues involving race after the incident last summer when he called out the Cambridge P.D. for arresting the black Prof. in his own home. I can't say I blame him as he got A LOT of flack from the white supremacists around the country, a/k/a racists. However, he is being much too careful about all the rants and hatred that is being thrown around these past two years since he has become President from the hateful, fear-mongering ultra-conservative rightwing nutjobs. He needs to take off the kid gloves and go after these lying, incendiary, divisive, mean-spirited sore losers who want him out of office and let them have it. You can't be "nice" to these people. They see it as weakness. I am tired of his pleasantries and trying to bring this country together. It's not going to happen. Go after every single lie and refute it, rebut it 24/7. They attack him over everything. He can't say a word they don't twist to fit their own agenda. He better get after them in the media and I don't care how much Fox complains that he is "trying to shut us up". They should be shut up, the lying bunch of hypocrites. They are destroying this Country.

A little too late. I hope she tells Obama what he can do with the new job offer. To those who are blaming Fox News, I suggest you get your facts straight. Try listening – you might learn something.

  13. Total waste of time

The President takes time from an impossible to talk to an employee in a multi trillion dollar government - talk about political grandstanding – over compesation – and racial politics. Like the now infamous Professor gates circus, the President whold not have gotten invoived with this for a nano second . Do you job Mr president – stop pandering
